let's start off with mr. trump's comments. it sounds like he's going to keep on what he believes is the winning track, remaining as a republican, if he's the nominee would you support him? >> good morning, well, obviously, look, i think i'm going on be the nominee. i think donald trump has done a great job of tapping into the anger and frustration voters feel. what the polls tell me is that nobody has any real votes right now. after we get past this summer of silliness, voters will look at who's prepared to do the job? who has the bell jones, the courage, the experience? i believe i'm the candidate best able to do this job on the first day. and i'll give you one example, right now the american people are saying we have to shrink the size of the government, grow the american economy, i'm the only candidate that's actually reduced the size of government -- >> but governor jindal, your campaign does not seem to be catching fire at all? >> well, look, i disagree with that, we're seeing great momentum in iowa, we're seeing standing

can i ask you what your response to the kind of headline-making comments of mr. trump are? >> well, you know, i see it on different levels, of course. i see it as somebody who has been in politics, and i understand why it's politically advantageo advantageous. he's not doing it by accident, he's doing it because it appeals to his republican base, and we've seen folks from pete wilson 20 years ago to jan brewer a few years ago to steve king in iowa that drum up resentment against immigrants in order to get elected. at the same time, personally i can only imagine what so many folks are feeling of different colors and backgrounds who have an immigrant history in our country. i know my grandmother came when she was six or seven years old in 1922 from mexico as a young orphan, and she worked her entire life as a maid, a cook and a babysitter. so she didn't reach, quote, unquote, the american dream, but because of that, my mother was able to graduate from high school, go to college, and my brother and i have become professionals and then public servants. so what he's doing, the p

trump and we are likely to go into the new year with mr. trump because he's leading nationally, he's leading in iowa, he's leading in new hampshire and he's starting to talk about spending money and seemed to hintz there that he was ready to say, i'm going to stay as a republican. >> right. there's sort of like a hint of a threat in his remarks on the third party bid. but i think that, you know, every campaign now has realized that he is a serious force to be dealt with. thinking about their strategy, obviously, we see jeb bush hitting a lot harder, coming back at him and some of the other candidates using that as their way to get some oxygen in the race finally. it will be interesting to see because trump really is getting organized in these early states in a way that no one thought possible before. and it will be interesting to see whether he can translate all of that into actual caucusgoers. come next winter. >> and interesting to see. he has risen in the polls in part, not exclusively, but he got attention early on with his tough views

what do you make of the fact that mr. trump appears to be getting very serious? >> it is a natural next step, and he will continue to do well, the combination of policy and populism. he will call for tax increases and closing closing the loophole whereby hedge funds and venture capitalists carry interest, capital gains rate instead of a higher rate of income tax. i will bet that donald trump probably hits a gusher on this combination of clarity and populism. >> here is the thing to me does not get pressure because he is finding his own campaign. that's why people are so attracted to what he is saying and what his policy proposals are. they do not come prepackaged from anybody. >> while that's true. it's a little inconsistent. he raised his own taxes and taxes on hedge funds. obama said that we would call it socialism. i'm anxious to see what he comes out with, wondering who is preparing it for him. he can hire the best minds and finances to come up with a great tax plan, so i'm anxious to see what he says and if it is consistent with some of the statements he has

you know, on the other side, on the gop side, we keep hearing about the fact that -- that donald trump is confounding the so-called experts, that the playbook for politics and political campaigns is really being thrown out at this point because it seems as though he has the kind of momentum that many believe will last and that people say they have not seen before in this type of -- in the way that he's running it, in the way that all the elements are coming to te ing together. what's your reaction to all this? >> well, it's certainly unusua year before the presidential election. now, i'm not saying donald trump's support will disappear. i'm not saying it will greatly diminish. but i can certainly tell you as the number of republican candidates left in the field is reduced -- and that's going to happen naturally. there's a winnowing even before the first votes are cast in iowa. as you get fewer republican candidates, there will be more of a coalescing of support and i don't believe it's going to coalesce around donald trump. it's kind of donald trump versus most of the rest of the candi

how was mr. trump received by the audience today? >> well, the audience here as i'm finding is loving him. we did see people out here, there was a ben carson truck parked outside the event. there were people with ted cruz stickers on. rick santorum will be here later. i didn't get a chance to talk to many of his supporters but the people i talked to were very pro-trump. i talked to one woman and she said she's been a life long republican and if he ran as an independent she would vote that way as well some what we're seeing is traction gaining, like you mentioned in your lead and while his stump speech today was more of your typical trump, hitting on the issues we're used to hearing him talk about, he added nashville flair when he decided to say there's personal history with him with the city of nashville dealing indirectly with how he aspired to and did buy trump towers in new york, one of his most famous pieces of real estate in the city. so we've seen this happening in the past few weeks even when we were in mobile, he's been takin
