confrontation. chris murphy has more on the investigation. >> reporter: this happened in saint cloud, minnesota 60 miles northwest of the minneapolis if you know the area. according to police, department steven sandberg was guarding danny hammond, that is when the suspect got out of the hospital bed, grabbed sandberg's gun and then killed him. investigators say several shots were fired after security police were there and they were able to get in the room. fifty year-old suspect was taserd, restrained and then became unresponsive and also died. hospital staff was unable to revive them. sandberg is being remembered as a hero. >> it will be a tough one especially for a small community like this we went to the same church for many, many years. >> his family has been neighbors of ours for years. >> reporter: officials asked deputy to monitor him because of the seriousness of the domestic incident that happened earlier in the week. they did not say why hammond was treated in the hospital. but what a horrible chain of events. >> my goodness. >> man. >> reporter: all right, guys. chris, bac
