but we begin with cnn national correspondent jason carroll live in brookfeld, wisconsin. >> you can see, there's a few people still in live from earlier today. we saw much more than that. we're seeing a lull here. that is expected. it is the lunch hour. the machine you see in the center, that's the machine tabulating the votes. they'll be sending it back to the county when polls close at 8:00 tonight. the trump camp feels as though the record turnout is going to work in his favor. in terms of some numbers here, 672 people had come in here, casted their votes by 11:00 a.m. 3,500 absentee ballots received here already just at this one particular location. in terms of record turnout, experts are expecting 40% of registered voters to turn out. that would equal some 1.75 million people. trump feels that's going to work in his favor. but i've been speaking to voters out here and there's one thing i think he'll have a problem with and this is anecdoticallanecdot. speaking to two women out here. both of them at one point were considering going between trump and cruz but after that disastrou

in at one of the polling stations in brookfield, wisconsin, west of milwaukee. cnn's jason carroll is on the scene for us. higher voter turnout than expected, is that what it looks like? >> reporter: without question, wolf. you can take a look for yourself. the line is still out the door here. we just gotten a recent count, 1,800 people have walked through those doors so far to cast their vote. the trump campaign saying they feel as low a higher voter turnout will weigh in their favor. i've spoken to a number of voters coming in here, one an 89-year-old veteran who said he initially was going to support trump but he now feels as though he's carrying too much baggage. also spoke to another woman who says she initially was going to vote for trump. she, too, went to cruz simply because she says she did not like the way trump tried to articulate his position on abortion. trump saying earlier today he's going to pull out a surprise here in the state. he was also saying it over the weekend. despite the fact that most recent polling still shows cruz ahead. wolf? >> all right. jason, thank

other panelists get in. jason, that's the biggest smirk i've ever seen. what's going on in your mind? >> i was impressed to hear that donald trump didn't want to be rude by answering a question in the wrong way. there's a pattern with donald trump. if you ask him any substantive policy question, he doesn't answer it because he doesn't actually understand foreign policy, domestic policy. and i don't mean this in a perjorative way in saying he's unsophisticated about politics and campaigning. but he's not good at it. he is good at throwing ought the things he is and rallying people and inciting people and becoming a caricature of himself. but in terms of going out and laying out an articulate vision on foreign policy or domestic policy, he has an inability to do that because he doesn't know about the issues or policies you think the president of the united states would be required to know. >> the question is, bob beckel, is this chipping away at his teflon coating? >> yeah, it is. look, there's nothing that's more engrained in the base of the republican party than the right to life mov

. jason, look, violence and protesters, nothing new, but frankly we have not seen this for a while until today. what is the campaign telling you? >> well, the best person to talk about that his donald trump himself. and he did poke light at the situation. at least a few of those folks actually did get inside the hotel here. they dropped an anti-trump banner. one woman with a megaphone shouting trump equals hate. trump addressed the issue when he spoke here at the convention, as you saw, basically poking fun at the situation saying what it was like to get inside must be something like that what an illegal immigrant experiences trying to cross the border. he made the joke twice, made it at the end, and it was made by applause at the end. certainly not by all. a number of people said they felt like we had an opportunity to talk about unity. he did mention unity when he was here and mention it during his speech. but some people felt that it was a missed opportunity. >> all right, jason, thank you very much. and as jason talking about the joke that donald trump made twice about crossing

calling for cruz to drop out, saying he has no chance to win. let's go to jason carroll at the site of that trump event. you've been to a lot of these donald trump events. does this one look any different? does it feel any different? is the mood any different than the others you've attended and covered? >> well, i can tell you, it certainly feels like a lot of trump events we've been to in the past. what we can expect today what we've seen in past we can expect more of that name call and expect this crowd to hear lyin'ted cruz and talk about the crooked delegate system. earlier today, donald trump jr. spoke to jake tapper about that delegate system and talked about ted cruz and says the only way cruz can get delegates is to bribe them. >> ted cruz has no chance of winning this without bribing the delegate. that's his game at this point. he's mathematically eliminated. he's not an appealing candidate to the general election voters. >> reporter: cruz has said repeatedly that the trump team simply needs to do more of the homework and have a better ground game and called trump and his team

kasich and ted cruz are on the campaign trail making last-minute pleas to voters. cnn's jason carroll has been following donald trump and he joins me now. jason, yesterday trump's top aide was heard on this audio saying his candidate is projecting a persona. how have people you've spoken to there reacted to that and what is trump saying today? >> well, i can tell you this, i mean, i think the vote her showed up today saw the trump they wanted to see, the trump they expected to see. they heard him say some familiar things that we've heard some, pamela, calling clinton crooked clinton,
