let's go to chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. people will have to bundle up for their plans tonight? >> yeah, it was a really cold day today. the high temperature 32. it's about ten degrees below normal. the clouds, though, tonight that's going to be one of the reasons that the temperature is not going to drop very much. 32 in philadelphia now. 28 in allentown. and in coatesville. and that's about as low as it's going to get tonight. but we do have some returns on radar. now just about all of this is not reaching the ground because the low levels of the atmosphere are so dry. but there could be some snow flurries in parts of the higher elevations, especially. that's what the future cast computer is showing us, berks county, but especially the poconos seeing flurries over the next few hours and then it's gone. that's the end of that threat. because the atmosphere is warming up. temperatures going up as we go through the night tonight with the cloudy skies, no significant precipitation expected. different story over the weekend. we

glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> we do have some cooler air coming in. you can see the flag blowing. that is from the direction that generally brings colder air and it will be getting colder as we head through the niemt. it's down to 47 in ooemt so that's considerable drop just in the last hour. 54 in philadelphia, 52 in wilmington. wilmington was 60 just a couple of hours ago. so the temperatures are going down. the wind as you can see coming out of the north, northwest and it's not that strong. it's five to ten-mile-per-hour so it's going to take all night to get some of that colder air in. we have clear skies around here just some high thin clouds out to the west. and so tomorrow morning, it's going to be a lot colder than it was this morning. it was 43 in philadelphia this morning. now we're talking about 10 degrees colder by tomorrow morning, a couple spots even getting down into the 20s but then we go right back up and i'll tell you about that in a few minutes. >>> a billboard shaming philadelphia's mayor and top school officials could be on i-95 one week from today. we told yo

. >> let's go to meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> it's going to continue to warm up. these temperatures today already well above average. the average high is 47, 52 right now. we did get up to 54 and compared to the rest of the area, 10 to 13 degrees warmer than at this time yesterday. we're going to have a similar jump for tomorrow and a similar jump again for wednesday. here we go through the evening. temperatures not dropping very much, 46 by 10:00 with a mere 4-mile-per-hour wind. it's going to be a mild night. we had that big temperature drop between saturday and sunday. now we're on the rise, tomorrow 66 wednesday, 76 and we have a chance of breaking some records. philadelphia i'm predicting right around the record level. allentown has the best chance of breaking a record, also trenton and wilmington could be breaking records as well. but there's a price to pay for that. possible severe thunderstorms. i'll have the timing on that in a few minutes. >> in an effort to stop people from smoking, new jersey is looking to become the first state to ban flavored ecigare

meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz tells us how long the rain will last in his most accurate first alert neighborhood forecast. >> this area of rain has nothing to do with the severe weather we're talking about for tomorrow. this is a separate area. you can see it's really knocked down the visible out there. some of this rain is on the heavy side, not just where jim is in washington. look at this. in parts of chester county, delaware county, south philly, center city getting some moderate to heavy rain right now. now, this is not going to last all night, but as you can see it's moving straight west to east. and so the same areas are getting hit by the heaviest rain over and over again. so you're going to be getting a good bit of rain in philadelphia and much of delaware. in the lehigh valley, you're getting nothing. back to the west, you can see there's more rain coming in ohio. maybe the lehigh valley will get a little bit of that later on tonight. as we go through the night tonight, you can see the future weather computer showing the heaviest rain in central and southern delaware

let's get right to glenn "hurricane" schwartz. time this out for us. >> unfortunately, the worst of this storm looks like it will occur during the morning rush on thursday. that's one of the reasons we've issued the first alert for the entire area except for the jersey shore and the delaware beaches where it may snow but it was likely melt. 4:00 a.m. to noon on thursday, not tomorrow. accumulating snow heavy at times. during the morning rush with slick roads and poor visibility. as we go through the day tomorrow, tomorrow evening, no problems, but overnight tomorrow night and into thursday morning, that's when the cold air's coming down from the north, the moisture comes in from the west and it adds up to a snowy morning rush. 6:00 a.m., the darker blue indicating the heavier snow. so it's accumulating during that period all the way down to central delaware and into much of new jersey. but this is not a long-lasting storm. and by noontime or early afternoon, it is tapering off and moving out, limiting the snow totals to some degre

let's go back to nbc10 first alert meteorologist glen hurricane schwartz. if people pay attention to you, they will not be caught off guard tomorrow. >> wedant want you to get caught off guard. look out the window and it'sing or snow is melting as it hits. you say, oh, they're wrong. just wait. things will be changing rapidly. that rain changing to snow. the snow getting heavier. the temperature going down. and it starts sticking. so all these things are likely to happen. the heaviest snow from 5:00 to 9:00 a.m., right during the morning rush. of course, the peak snowfall rates, 2 to 3 inches per hour some places. plows can't keep up with that. thundersnow possible. low visibility and snow covered roads. not just the roads but also the trees and power lines. it's going to be heavy, wet snow, sticky type snow. good for snowballs but also good for knocking down trees and causinger outages. this is the intense forecast for philadelphia. 5:00 a.m., something is going to be coming down hard. it could be rain, could be snow, could be a mixture. where the big pixt

we'll begin with meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz and the most accurate first alert neighborhood forecast, glenn? >> yeah, jacqueline, the flag is not just blowing strongly, it's blowing left to right. from this angle, that's a cold wind. the opposite way is the warm wind. we'll be getting into that before too long. but it's 28 degrees in philadelphia now. 23 in allentown. that doesn't tell the whole story. because we still have a lot of wind out of the northwest. as you saw with those flags. still gusting at 36 miles an hour in atlantic city. 39 miles an hour in dover. that's not quite as gusty as it was a few hours ago when it was up to 52 miles an hour in cape may. look at what happened here. yesterday at 3:00, it was 66 degrees. remember, records all over the place. by 5:00 this morning, it was feeling like 32. and by 9:00 this morning feeling like 16. that's a 50 degree drop in 18 hours. no wonder it feels freezing cold by the time you go outside. the temperature, as we go through the evening, dropping through the 20s. feels like temperature, dropping to 10 by 11:00 and sing
