. >>> hello, i'm jennifer gilbert. >> and i'm jeff barnd. >>> breaking news out of mount washington light rail station. police say a woman was struck by a train there. >> melinda is live with what happened there. >> reporter: it appears the woman was trying to cross the tracks behind me when she was suddenly struck by a light rail train. other riders say she was bleeding and does appear to have some injuries. she was rushed to the hospital. and we're told it does seem her injuries are not life-threatening. while we're until waiting for information from investigators, we did talk to other riders as to how this could have happened. to cross you would have to step out around the train to do so. they also saying many riders cross in a of hurry and there are curves on both sides of the tracks here, on both sides of this light rail stop, making it very difficult to see trains coming in either direction. so while they say it is very rare that someone is ever hit crossing the tracks, riders say they have seen plenty of near misses. mta officials are here on scene. they are still investigating and

i'm jennifer gilbert. storms hit maryland, causing major damage in several parts of our region. heavy winds and rain made it through, uprooting trees. they ended up falling on power lines and blocking streets. >> it was unreal. i had never seen anything like this in my life. branches were flying. leaves were flying. debris everywhere. we started hearing hail against the window and that's where i thought the window was definitely going to shatter. >> i looked at my husband and was wondering if maybe there was a tornado. we pulled down the driveway and there were more and more trees down. then we saw the huge 1 blocking the entrance to our court. >>reporter: there was a similar scene where the storms even brought down more trees and damaged at least one home there. in baltimore county, 21,000 customers are without power tonight. repair crews have restored service to over 7,000 homes since the storm began. there are some other smaller power outages in other areas of the state tonight. >>> things seemed to have calmed down in most parts of our area. vytas reid has the information. >

. >> hello, i am jennifer gilbert. jeff barnd is off tonight. money and cops. the baltimore city police department is getting $10 million in federal stimulus funds. to help crackdown on crime. funds come from a grant program called "cops." keith daniels is here now to talk about what city cops plan to do with the money. keith? >> well, jennifer, police commissioner fred bealefield said money will be used to put more foot patrols on the street. now governor o'malley was in philadelphia today, taking part in the announcement with vice-president biden. maryland gets $23 million for eight police departments. baltimore city cut is 10 million. mayor sheila dixon said the money will be used to hire 50 new police officers, all of them, again, part of the foot patrols, as part of a strategy to help the department win back community trust. the federal government will pay officer's salaries and benefits, for three years. then local governments will have to pay. >> we anticipated this and that's why in the past, when we got cop's money and had to cover it. we did not want

. >> and i am jennifer gilbert. topping the "late edition" tonight baltimore county coach charged with soliciting sex from a minor. >> karen parks standing by live at baltimore county police headquarters with the latest on the story tonight. karen? >> well, jeff, police say 32-year-old charles fridel attempted to solis sex from a 14-year-old and all started with a text found by her parents. now detectives say they were contacted july 6 from the victim's parents about inappropriate text messaging being sent from 32-year-old charles fridel to their 14-year-old daughter that is the sister of one of the players on the team fridel coaches. police say he requested explicit pictures from the girl and asked to meet her for sex. undercover detectives assume the girl's identified and continued to have conversations with fridel. set up a meeting and that's when he was arrested. he is charged with sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child pornography. >> this is a soccer coach that parents entrust. he has breached
