his speech could be politically motivated. sarah simmons joins us from wakefield high school in arlington where the president will make his remarks. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. this upcoming speech from the president has caused quite a controversy. there are some parents out there who are urging teachers and schools to actually boycott the president's address to the nation's schools that will take place here tomorrow. some of his critics are even saying that he will use this platform to push a socialist agenda and his supporters are saying this is absolutely ridiculous. the nation's education secretary coming out even yesterday on cbs's face the nation saying the controversy over president obama's speech is, quote, just silly. he says the speech is about challenning students to take their education very seriously. parents are dided. some are worried about what exactly the president will say while others say they have no problem at all with the speech. >> this is all about the president challenging our young people to take responsibility for their education. >> i hav

the d.c. line. apparently, this is due it a police investigate. sarah simmons just arrived at the scene and what can you tell us about what is going on there now? >> reporter: right now, we know the police are still here on the scene. new york avenue is shut down here between bladensburg road and "the washington times" building. now, what police are telling us right now, they are still investigating further down the road here in front of the washington times buildi where prince george's county police say that d.c. police originally had pursued somebody that crossed over into prince george's county. prince george's county officers tell us they followed somebody back over the d.c. line here where somebody then crashed a vehicle. we don't know exactly at this point why police were pursuing the vehicle. we don't know what type of vehicle but we do know the vehicle crashed right near the washington time building into a jersey wall. i am told by police that two people did get out of the car and ran off. police were able to catch them and have since arrested them. now, at this point, we

be held accountable. fox 5's sarah simmons joins us now with more details. >> reporter: union workers are saying that morale is very low at metro now. they say they are really feeling the pressure and some union workers feel as though they are being up duly disciplined and could possibly lose their jobs in the wake of the june # 2nd crash but they feel as though somebody at the top needs to be held accountable for this. the pressure is on for the entire transit agency because the ntsb just release a report earlier this week that says something went tragically wrong with the signaling system during the crash. the exact cause of the crash though is still unknown at this point. the ntsb sent letters alerting all rail systems nationwide that the signal problem can happen anywhere. metro's board chair says the urgent safety recommendations to monitor circuits offers no new information though. >> i don't want to be disrespectful in any way to the ntsb conclusion but it continues to be extremely frustrating that we haven't pinned down a cause so that we can take the real action to ma

don. sarah simmons is joining us -- it ended in lorton. sarah similar monday is joining us now. we hear the police have somebody in custody. >> reporter: that's right. but police are not confirming whether or not that person is related to the carjacking and abduction that i woman called about. this happened last night all of the very scary scene here at the springfield metro stop parking garage. police say a woman called and said she was abduct ad and was driven around in her chevy camaro. police searched for hours last night south of lorton. they con if i wered they do have someone in custody. they are not saying whether or not this is the person related to the carjacking. they searched for hours from the air and but ground for someone. police say they initially got the call just before 7:00 last night from the victim herself saying she had been carjacked. she told police this person had abducted her at gunpoint and the suspect allegedly through her in the trunk of her on chevy camaro and drove around ending up south of here in lorton where he evtually drop her off near silverdale

could face that brother thanks to a brac project. sarah simmons joins us with more on how this will change traffic. >> reporter: good morning. the project is mainly in the fort belvoir north area but a lot of this work will be done on the base. some of it is going to need to be done on the roadways outside of the base just even look at the traffic here at this time of the day. it gives you an idea how busy and congested it already is down here. but you know a lot of people are worried that it will be even worse once the brac realignment takes place. a federal commander will be meeting today at 1:30 to discuss road developments that are sure to come up. the road project, they are federal road projects that will connect rolling road and fullerton roads. there is also a plan to build a national geospatial intelligence agency in the same area. and along with that is expected lots of people. >> the army is moving 8500 employees to the nga facility they are building currently on engineer proving grounds. without these improvements, it would be a pretty heavy toll on the local roads. >> th

arrest but won't say if it's in connection with this case. sarah simmons joins us live with an update. >> we're still waiting to here whether or not the suspect is in connection with the carjacking. i can tell you the police searched for hours south of here looking for somebody and someone is now in custody following that search. now just so you know, just to get you up to speed, this happened just before 7:00. police got a call from the woman, the victim, who said she had been carjacked. she told police she had been abducted at gunpoint at the parking garage and the suspect put her in the trunk oher car and dropped her off in lorton where she ran to a home and called 911. police finally spotted this person, spotted the car, and went on a chase where he eventually crashed near hoos road and took off and police searched for him. now this morning i talked with metro ride asthey're waiting to get on the metro. some have heard about it and talked about their feelings about hearing about that happening here at the parking garage. >> i try not to change my habits. i'm a little more aware bu

month. >> it is a money-saving move. and sarah simmons has both sides of the story. >> reporter: good morning. a concern from some people that i've talked with out here, is that there will be more cars out there on the roadways that may not be safe. now emission inspections will still be performed but it's the safety inspections suspends as of october 1. so there were critics saying this could be more unsafe cars on the roadways. right now the city inspects all cars prior t registration, things like the brakes and other safety equipment. but the fenty administration and the dmv convinced the d.c. council to make a change in order to save some money. about $400,000. now critics question it, saying that many people don't maintain their cars as it is. it's a difficult problem that they have right now. but in talking with people out here, many mention to me that they felt as though that's not enough money to be saved in order to make sure that people's cars out there on the roadways are safe and prevent those from getting into other accidents. of course we'll have mor information. we're g
