so much snow in aspen that the ski resort said we're reopening this weekend. pretty exciting in many parts of the west. i don't know. who is unhappy about that if you're a skier? >> people that have to get there. unfortunately there are some road closures so much snow. it's been a wild winter. we've seen a lot of snow and blizzards and if that's not enough, temperatures are below normal. with temperatures as cold as they've been, that's why we see unfortunately a lot of the snow sticking and we're going to continue to see that as we go through the next 24 to 48 hours and speaking of what's ahead, look at this. let's zoom in here and you'll see that we have definitely snow that's building up across much of the mountain west. a lot of it. it's something to keep close track on as we go through much of the daytime hours. we're also tracking some extremely severe weather. a tornado warning has popped up once again into central minnesota. this area here is something we're watching because we're going to see more cells popping up and a lot of these are very intense.

these are conditions near aspen, also near yellowstone. the snow is so great in some places, they're going to allow ski runs to be open in aspen. we've been warned top the top of the mountain things are fine but towards the end of the run, things are a little slushy. just the idea you're out there on memorial day is cool enough. a little bit farther up the rockies, tetons and yellowstone national park show snow at 20 feet in some locations. good times. we show you radar. plenty of snowfall still coming down the grand tetons and yellowstone national park right about here. you see idaho falls, low lying areas, mainly rainfall in the highest spots the snow will pile up. in some locations you could see five to nine inches of snowfall in the mountains, valleys, considerably less. out in sierra nevadas, basically same situation. anyone driving along parts of i-80 you won't have an issue but near pare dies, california, you look up the towards the summit, it should be just spectacular for you. what you can anticipate the rest of your forecast toda

it has been the longest ski season ever for steamboat, aspen, supposedly opening up some of their ski runs for the weekend. even when you get into the sierra nevada mountains into the cascades snow will be a big story for you. we are going to see some of that pop up into parts of yellowstone too, yen trol and northern rockies and mountains towards the west. the reason we're seeing to the west, this area of low pressure that's going to pull in quite a bit of moisture from the pacific, but you've got the cold air sliding in from the north, the south, that interaction will give you the heavy snowfall. some places especially along i-70 going westbound, be careful in the high mountain passes. we mentioned the severe storms. in the southeast it's going to be very muggy for you. pop-up thunderstorms a possibility and in terms of travel, anyone making a flight out of atlanta today and going to the midwest, could get quite bumpy at times. look for delays maybe in chicago. maybe even into detroit before all is said and done because we're going to see that chance of rainfall exist from minneapol
