new hampshire is the make or break state for governor romney. >> will other republicans ignore new hampshire looking at these numbs? >> no. they will try to take governor romney out. somebody will get a spring board and a bounce out of iowa. we'll see. it's early, but as of now they are not competing heavily to win. they are not going to be out there all the time. somebody gets the bounce, then john mccain had to hold new hampshire. and he did. remember, he had governor romney in the race then. this time it's governor romney's state. the former governor of utah, jon huntsman, he's interesting to watch because he's picking up the old mccain network. governor pawlenty hoping to win iowa. but, wolf, it's so very early. david knows this, new hampshire is critical to romney. >> take a look at this. among gop primary voters, are you satisfied with the choice of candidates for the 2012 republican primary? 9% say that they are very satisfied and 42% say somewhat satisfied and 15% say that they are very dissatisfied. a lot more candidates look like they are dropping out than dropping in. >> sure do.

that is what new hampshire is all about. i reflected on being dropped in the middle of this open democratic process and thinking where we have been the last two years where you don't show up in somebody's living room, you don't invite the international press, and you don't have these wide-ranging discussions. we forget that this is not done in other places around the world. this is uniquely american. it is what has made this country great. new hampshire is contribution to our american democracy is unique and extraordinary. our american democracy's influence on so many countries abroad has been profoundly important. i guess you could say it starts here in new hampshire. i would be proud of that fact. finally, let me end by this -- i i would are calcold -- tell you, i don't know about you, but i am tired of the divisiveness in this country. i am a little bit tired of all of us americans being divided. , yelling, screaming, and finger-pointing. we all want the same thing. we all want a better tomorrow. we all want my daughter g

how is it working in new hampshire? >> it's pretty diverse here. they will call our offices and ask for some assistance and they often do, we'll set up appearances for them. but they have their own independent relationships here with a lot of people who do know them. actually individual, you have solid republicans who live here who may happen to know their staff or them, they can make phone cause and arrange to have them come to private sessions at their homes. they can set up meetings or dinners, have them -- a lot of them have been very generous in helping out the different counties and state with fundraising but it really is pretty wide open. if you know these candidates or if you know somebody that does and you can influence indemnify to come, whether it be to your home for a meeting or town hall, it happens that way as well. it's an interesting process. >> matt strawn, can i close the loop on the deadline for iowa to set its date for the caucuses? is there a deadline and if so when? >> yes, we wait to see the puff of smoke from secretary of st

she hasn't visited iowa, south carolina, new hampshire. she is visiting new hampshire this week. she is not reaching out to fundraisers and is on. not that she won't have a big impact in the race. to me the person to watch for in the next few weeks is michele bachmann who i think will announce by june 15, who is bringing advisors on board and i think will fill a lot of that space, the sarah palin space. >> chris: byron, let's turn to the front-runner the race. mitt romney, who visited iowa for the first time in seven months, which is kind of remarkable. but he wouldn't say whether or not he'll participate in the big straw poll there in august, which is a big deal in iowa and to iowa caucus-goers. he wouldn't say whether if he were president he would sign the paul ryan medicare plan into law. i know it sounds like an odd question but pawlenty said he would sign it in to law. how do you assess his chances? >> as far as strategy goes if you talk about romney advisors they say we'll do it different this time. it didn't work last time. will he skip iowa? he poured zillions of dollars
