this afternoon livermore police recreated the ambush with a patrol car. the photographer snapped shots while investigators searched for suspects. police say at about 2:30 a seven year veteran officer found a large chunk of concrete on the roadway. when he got out of his police officer, someone struck. >> within seconds of being out of the car, several rocks and cement were being thrown at him. >> reporter: one large rock fell on the officers head and he called for back up. but by the time other officers showed up, the suspects had walked away. neighbors walked by the evidence markers and say they hope police catch whoever layed that track. >> this side of the train tracks does, there's sirens from back here often. >> reporter: vandals and drug users routinely cut holes in the fences in the area looks for places to hide out. he spent his afternoon repairing a fence to his storage facility and a large hole leading directly to the train tracks. he says it's a constant battle. >> to keep people out. you know it was cut. we want to keep people out. down here.
