in san jose we came within 1 degree of breaking a record. not quite. we'll take a look at those numbers in a second. san francisco, we're waiting for some low clouds to punch underneath the golden gate bridge. mainly clear skies. you can see the flag is seeing west wind. in terms of the coastal record-breaking temperatures, san jose, one of the closest spots. record would have been 92, we came close today. the rest of the bay area, san francisco to oakland to the north bay, 70s and 80s. low 90s as you get into los gatos,al money dan valley, gilroy, mid 90s today. 85 around santa cruz. things starting to cool down as that sea breeze picks up. we're going to see winds increasing out of the west into tomorrow. plus we're seeing a weather system offshore that's not only going to bring a cool-down, but just as quickly as things have warmed up, the seven-day forecast is going on a roller coaster ride which includes cooling and even a chance of showers. we'll let you know if that's going to arrive for the end of the weekend and affect your sunday plans coming

an update to the controversial pension reform ballot measure in san jose. the language will be changed. the six-district court of appeals ruled late this afternoon in favor of city workers. this comes after employees asked for the wording to be changed, claiming it was biased and not impartial. the court agreed. in its ruling, it ordered all of the changes, which city workers requested. the title of the ballot will be changed from pension reform to pension modification. the court also ruled some of the language was not neutral. the ballot cannot be printed until these changes are made. >>> it just got harder for locals to get into san jose state. the university president eliminated the local guarantee. for some south bay students, this also eliminates their college dreams. nbc bay area's chris joins us. what's the bottom line in all this? >> reporter: you know, san jose state was stuck between a rock and a hard place on this one. they were trying to accept all qualified students, after suffering round after round of budget cuts. something had to give. and t

lisa washington joins us live from san jose state, one of the largest camp campuses, to explain what is going on >> that voting process that begins today is one of the developments that could mean a massive strike this fall at csu schools and that would mean that class's would not be open for some 400,000 students. the california faculty association which represents 24,000 members including professors librarians coaches and counselors have not been able to agree on a new contract after 22 months of negotiations. the faculty members of the campus's including san jose state want the chancellor's management to slow and increase class sizes. they also want pay adjustments for those to earn less than those who were hired recently. they say they do not want two- tier pricing. so what does this mean? if the vote passes and the union disagrees with the settlement that is proposed, the union's board could call for a two day strike. this would be a rolling strike which means that groups of schools would strike for two days, and one immediately after the other. it could be awhile before we know
