speak traitors saying there's katie ledecky. she's in the lead right now. everybody seeing an olympic gold medalist. something that doesn't really happen very often. we take to you one of the events today. katie actually smacked two of her own individual school records tonight. one in a 200 im and also in the 100 butterfly. but you know despite all the media attention, and success it appears katie is just flipped right back into being a normal teenager. with her team here at stone ridge. you would think this would be a distraction with all the fanfare. you know people like us showing up in her first swim meet. but i talked with the head coach bob walker earlier today. he said that's far from the case. if anything katie's win provided the area with some inspiration. >> i think it's brought a lot of media attention to our sport. which is a great sport. it's brought a lot of attention to our area. girls here in our school that aren't swimmers want the find out what swimming is all about and she's just a normal, normal person that h

. >>> three months ago, katie ledecky shocked the swimming world by taking the gold at the london oolympics. today the bethesda native was hitting the water again, but this time the opponents were just a little less formidable. >> reporter: i'm kristen berset. she got back in action with her former gator teammates. what a return to the pool it was for the 15-year-old. she broke 2 of her own personal school records. this being her first meet and her being a gold medalist, there was a lot of extra fanfare today. i talked to katie to find out how this whirlwind has been since bringing home the gold. she said it's been exciting but she's just good to be an inspiration for others. >> it's great people are getting into swimming. i feel like if i can inspire a few people, that's a great thing. they all think it's a reallyexciting thing. a lot of people were interested in that. it's a great thing to be a part of. >> reporter: aside from her swim meet, katie is still training extra hard with her club team. she has her sights set on 2016. i'm kristen berset, 9 news. >> i don't think there were any sw

. >>> katie ledecky is winning olympic gold, but now she's competing on home turf. ledecky swam in her first high school meet since london last month. the teen swims for stone ridge in the sacred heart of bethesda. she won the 200 individual medley. even though the crowd was a bit smaller than london and the stakes a little lower, ledecky said she's happy to be home. >> it's good to be here with my teammates, my friends, my supporters. it's a great feeling and a lot of fun. >> ledecky also promoted a coat drive to get warm coats for catholic charities. >>> another olympic gold medalist will be in town. gymnast micayla maroney will be in town as part of the mcdonald's tour of champions which comes to the verizon. she won team gold in london and a silver for vault. other members, gabby douglas, jordan weber will perform tomorrow night as well. >> all those photos popped up with the face she was making with her arms crossed. >> wonder if she'll do that when she signs autographs. >> i doubt that. >> 5:51 is the time. tom is back with us talking about the need for gloves
