against that country. they note that the country's financial difficulties have increased. doreen, hamden, conn., independent caller -- caller: thank you for cspan. i agree with the president. i think is joyces were excellent. he knows what he is doing and we put him in office because he knows what he is doing and i don't think we should make a jump to judgment before we know what the person is capable of doing. they have already been on the business for over 25 years. i don't think the president would pick someone who does not know what they are doing or is incapable of doing the job. host: are you referring to john brennan? caller: yes. host: where do you see foreign policy challenges in 2013? caller: i think we will focus more on ourselves than with foreign policy. unless there is a big war and we have to get involved, if we don't have to get involved, i don't see us stepping into a h a hole, as such. i think we will focus on ourselves and foreign-policy is one of our concerns but i don't think it will be our main concern. we have so many things going on at home. host: what about syria
move on to the next caller. jay is up from east hamden, connecticut. welcome jay. caller: good morning. i like to ask fred a question. how do we plan on dealing with syndromes of -- when we think of drones and like they use in warfare and so forth, they are thought more of like a killer bee syndrome. we can't handle the killer bee syndrome in our own current life. you talk about the nuclear problem and that seems to be very similar to when humans were first in existence and they had to learn to live with lions and so forth. these analogies are things that seem to be need to be dealt with. they seem to be very basic in a lot of ways. guest: i think what you're asking about is the kind of more unintended effect in technology. killer bees, we are as a species, we're making having a big impact on the planet and we're causing disruptions. we get unintended consequences. you mentioned killer bees, the bigger problem is the die-off in some honey bees, which is happening and has been a big problem in agriculture. i wrote a book which is just out this year call "the fate of the species"
