. >> maria molina tracking the arctic blast. >> good morning. we had a quick moving storm system yesterday. now for coastal areas temperatures were too warm. we had to deal with a lot of heavy rain along parts of the i 95 corridor. sections of new england including the state of maine picked up significant yant snowfall from the system. a lot of snow across that part of the country. we are looking at relatively quiet weather conditions for a short period of time. across southern texas light snow showers across the midwest. it is really the temperatures that will be a big story over the next couple days out here. it will be bitterly cold. 23 below zero in minneapolis, feels like 11 below in the city of chicago. high temperatures remaining in the single tig get across portions of the midwest. we have a quick moving clipper system by tomorrow and into wednesday could produce up to 6 inches of snow in parts of the midwest and parts of the northern rockies. coming up thursday into friday we could have a nor' easter. that is something to track. >> well

maria molina has been tracking the storm for us all morning. >> where is it headed next? is it over yet? >> good news for atlantic like right here in new york city where we see the snow transition over to rain. we are seeing temperatures gradually rising just above freezing out here in some of the areas in time for the morning commute. in new england and boston we are seeing the snow going down. i want to mention some of the totals because they were incredible. about 8.6 inches of snow parts of delaware with the snow. the snow was widespread yesterday across parts of the great lakes and even some freezing precipitation and winter weather across parts of the plains. there is going to be another shot. it shouldn't be that bad. we will see more white stuff as we head into tomorrow. current windchill temperatures it is stim very told. dangerously cold across the midwest and the north earn plains. feels like 19 degrees in rapid city. 5 below in minneapolis. the high temperature in minneapolis 0 degrees. >> it can be dangerous on the roads. >> thanks maria. >> horrible tory to

let's check in with maria molina for an update. >> we have lirngs showeris acros eastern carolina. a much wider storm system. take a look at the radar picture across most of the lower 48. a little bit of snowfall coming down in parts of the great lakes area and northern rockies. nothing too unusual. the big problem with this storm system are the very cold temperatures behind it. take a look at some of these current windchill temperatures across parts of the midwest. in chicago it feels like 20 below zero, feels like 23 below zero in minneapolis. in far go even colder 31 degrees below zero. you are looking at dangerous conditions. i am concerned about the communities that do not have power and are experiencing cold conditions. the actual high temperature, patty ann and elizabeth only in the teens from minneapolis to chicago. in new york city you will see a high in the 40's, low 40's but it will get colder tomorrow the high only forecast to be about 30 degrees a chili christmas day inde indeed. >> a little more like the holidays when it is cold is the bright side. >> that's true. >>

let's turn to maria molina who starts the weather day inside the studio. >> that's right. good morning. good to see you peter on the curvy couch. we have cold temperatures to talk about and a big winter storm that is going to be impacting so many people out west. it's been producing snow out here. parts of wyoming have already picked up more than six inches of snow. the same goes for parts of north dakota and minnesota. the storm system has already been on the move out here. take a look at how much additional snowfall we're expecting. at least 18 more inches across western colorado, at least 6 more inches widespread across parts of the upper midwest. significant snow forecast out here. you also have to keep in mind that some freezing rain can mix in with some of that at times so icing is going to be a huge concern across portions of the upper midwest. winter storm warnings and watches already in effect out here across the rockies and into the northern plains. temperature-wise, behind the storm it is going to get very cold. i want to show you this animation here because for

maria molina is in the weather center tracking it all for us. >> we are looking at another storm coming in but i want to mention we have areas of lake-effect snow. lake-effect snow is very localized. very few areas dealing with the snowfall. generally today we are expecting the snow to stay north of the city of syracuse and south of the city of buffalo. we have warnings in effect and we are expecting significant snowfall accumulations through the up of michigan. north of syracuse they can pick up up to three feet of snow otherwise an additional 1-2 feet of snow forecast downwind of lake ontario and also lake erie otherwise current temperatures it is bitterly cold out here. take a look at international falls. current temperature is 18 below zero. it is currently 13 below zero in duluth. factor in the wind it feels even cold ever. in minneapolis police 15 below zero. we have windchill warnings in effect and loss advisories. some of the windchills could be colder than 35 degrees below zero. heather and ainsley here's a look at the storm system we are tracking. it could be over parts of the

maria molina is live in the fox weather center. hi, maria. >> 71 degrees in tampa. not bad, right? we have an update on the winter storm warnings. they have been allowed to expire a few minutes ago. the winter storm warnings expired for parts of d.c. and also the baltimore area. those two cities no longer under winter storm warning but under winter advisory as additional one to three inches of snow can fall across the areas. that is because we do have some of the heavier snowfall rates lifting northwards. we're seeing heavier snow falling across parts of philadelphia and across the new york city area. worst of the storm should be over for the d.c. area within the next several hours. but we are expecting significant accumulations, three to six inches of snow forecast across areas just west of d.c. some of those areas still under warning. philadelphia you could see three to six inches as well. for new york city, two to four inches of snow forecast out here. we are under a winter weather advisory. anywhere from tennessee all the way up to parts of southeastern massachusetts. so timing

maria molina is tracking the storm. >> we are tracking the clipper system e. it is in place across parts of chicago and across the great lakes. that's where we are seeing the snow coming down early this morning. it will be racing eastward and impacting parts of the northeast later this morning. the cold temperatures is really what is setting the stage for snow across the great lakes and northeast. it feels like 7 degrees in chicago parts of utah also waking up to current windchill temperatures in the single tig g digits. usually a little milder than this. but as you head out the door it will feel like 41 degrees that's a little chilly for floridians. low 30's for you in chicago and also new york city. early this morning it will be impacting portions of the great lakes and pennsylvania and new jersey. it will will race eastward. by tomorrow morning the storm has gone out of the northeast and also portions of new england. in terms of snowfall accumulation the more significant accumulations that could go across eastern maine not too bad in new york city. forecast

maria molina joins us from the fox business what this center with our christmas forecast. >> we had a storm system that warm things up over the weekend breaking records across portions of the northeast and that helped to melt a lot of snow on the i-95 cord or but we have a lot of leftovers know from previous storm systems so far this fall and early winter. that storm that produced base accumulation across the great lakes and new england over the last several days is finally off the coast leaving behind much quieter conditions so it does look good in terms of anyone traveling to see family, other cities or keep that in mind we are looking relatively quiet. a few snow showers in portions of the great lakes and the rockies. behind the storm you will notice is going to be very cold out there. windchill temperatures below 0 in minneapolis and it feels like 20 below in the city of fargo. high temperatures today only in the teens for chicago, minneapolis, 40s in new york city and as far as who is expecting a white christmas a lot of children and a lot of adults as well, one of the only days

martha: meteorologist maria molina is live with us on this huge storm. >> reporter: it already produced more than 30 inches of snow. and the storm system is still producing snowfall out here. take a look at what additional amounts we are expecting. you are looking at locally up to 18 inches of snow in some spots. generally 3-6 inches. portions of the midwest also expected 6 inches in addition to what you have already seen. with this storm system we are seeing cold temperatures. this is currently wait feel like when you head out the door. at 16 degree below 0 degree. in minot, north dakota, it feels like minus 14 degree. actual high temperatures will be bitterly cold. we are looking at highs in the single digits. your actual high temperature in billings, moth, we'll be seeing moisture coming out of the gulf of mexico and it will be interactioning with that of producing -- interacting with that and some spots could see half an inch of ice that's a huge concern for power outages and travel on the roadways. keep an eye out for this thursday, friday and into the weekend. martha: thank you ve
