at the map, we look at the entire peninsula and it does move smoothly, but a big note for folks. if you work over at that pacific shore center, that's a business park at the end of seaport boulevard, dazzle, broad vision, some of the larger businesses over there, they will have probably -- have to shut down today. i'm not sure. we don't have word from those companies, but chp has got a traffic block there, blocking you from 101 towards seaport boulevard. you can't head toward that area unless, of course, you have a very good reason and chp allows you to do that. woodside road, highway 84 to the west of the freeway, that is open on to and off highway 101. an issue through redwood city. expect a slight different traffic flow. smooth flow toward the bay bridge toll plaza. i do want to talk about two crashes now clearing from the roadway west 80 at san pablo. we do have what looks like one of them cleared from the roadway. the second still blocking your second lane, causing a bit of a slow down. a lighter volume of traffic may save things if they can get this cleared quickly. we'll look

"today in the bay's" chase cain on the scene. what can you tell us? >> reporter: terry, this is now a two-alarm fire and fire officials are asking people if they're anywhere in the vicinity of redwood city to stay inside with their doors and windows closed. this is not a shelter in place order. they're just asking you to take precautions, because obviously, we're talking about a lot of smoke that has been pouring into the air for going on four hours now. the sims metal facility recycles, essentially, just old junk metal from cars to appliances. and the fire officials say it was a pile of appliances that exploded around 1:00 a.m. and caught fire. that is what has been burning ever since. as we mentioned, a two-alarm fire. they have brought in help from nearby fire departments to get this under control, try and put the fire out. there is also an industrial sprinkler system

and it is coming into san francisco down the peninsula, as well, and we had a report of someone driving across the golden gate bridge and they pass the tunnel headed in the northbound direction not existent. we have 1.25 mile visibility at half moon bay and 1.75 mile visibility in santa rosa. ten miles for the prosecute of the bay area. the cold front is coming from the pacific northwest where they are expensing 10- to 20-degree drop in temperatures from yesterday, just 24 hours ago through washington and oregon. the cold front comes into san francisco over northern california the next couple of days. by tonight that is where we will expense the chilly temperatures and, also, gusts that come in monday into tuesday and tuesday through thursday are the coolest temperatures. our day planner the next 12 hours, we going to wake up to cooler temperatures in the bay area so dress warmly. by noon, it will ramp up and we will be warmer than we were yesterday. the cold comes right back in the evening hours with the full seven-day forecast in a moment. we have problems on the roads and one

peninsula, moving through and we brought in precipitation overnight. you may have noticed we were talking about the moisture on the roads and that is all pass, away with a colder air mass behind it. from the sutro tower camera to the financial district and the bay bridge you can see twinkling lights are clear but there is the high cloud covering much of the bay area. as we talk about our satellite we had the front moving in over northern california from the pack northwest and that brought the sight chance of rain and you may have seen the moisture. however, just behind it is the mass of cold air that is coming in from alaska and that is going to bring us the subfreezing temperatures for big part of the bay area. all of bay area, north bay, we will see the freezing temperatures and frost advisory, as well, so possible damage to sensitive plans and exposed pipes. that is going to extend through the east bay and along the peninsula, as well. we will want to dress accordingly. the rest of california shows it is bringing the temperatures down. in tahoe 33 is the high. we have snow show

drunk driver on the peninsula facing felony hit-and-run charges this morning. the man was driving drunk when he crashed into a vintage car dealership. when police arrived on the scene, they found the passenger hert but the driver had taken off. the police tracked down the suspect and arrested him nearby. >>> the palo alto city council will vote on whether to pass a law to prevent people from sleeping in their cars. the law is scheduled to take effect in february, but now the council wants to wait until a court decision is made on a similar law in california. that ban is whether it is constitutional. the city will likely use the time to further educate the public about the law. >>> a warning for anyone heading to bay area beaches. the national weather service has issued a beach hazard warning for beaches from sonoma county down to monterey. we could see waves from six to eight feet high as well as very strong tides. the warning will be in effect through this afternoon. now, you may be heading to the beach today with temperatures pushing 70 degrees in some parts of the bay area. thi
