by 2015, obamacare, hey, projected to cover over 13 million americans. by 2016, the number could be roughly 22 million americans. now, would that be considered a good start? the nonprofit rand corporation has a study that shows 9.5 million people have gained health insurance from obamacare. this number includes medicaid enrollment, which not every state has taken. other estimates reveal that 13 million people gained health care. if you factor in the young people under 26, staying on their parents' policy. now the affordable care act has created -- no question about it -- the largest expansion of coverage in health care in this country in a half century. go back to the days of lyndon johnson and medicare. as america gets healthier the cost of health care will come down, we'll have better outcomes. meanwhile, all of obamacare's recent success has republicans just scrambling on defense. canadian senator ted cruz of texas say the number of people without health insurance is going up. >> what we know right now, is as a result of obamacare, millions of people

>> richard, i think it is a good start for the obamacare. whether it turns around perceptions, i'm not sure yet. there's a long way go. we don't know the final numbers, obviously. today is the deadline. those are on the cue after the administration said they'll let them keep going. we'll see how many young people are signed up. there's a number of big questions coming. and how the program actually works as people visit their doctors and have the health insurance. i think it is something the administration is trying to ride the new momentum. trying to make sure that people have a more positive feeling about it. i think better than the alternative which is what you saw in the fall. if you saw leading up to this the president and others in the cab innocent were focussed on this in a way they be more or less. >> evidently the celebrity push they had put out there seems to be working at least in term of getting the excitement and as it ticked up. we'll get the numbers in another week. former president bill clinton was saying no matter the numbers

this is really a three-year project to see where obamacare will end up. it's not getting changed until president obama is out of office so you have until january, 2017 and there are a lot of functions in the bill, in the law to make sure it's able to hit a good young and healthy versus sick and older population. over the first couple years. so i don't get too sort of intent on judging it by the end of the month. but i think it's where we thought it would be by the end of march. >> what about -- there's been a lot of talk about the federal exchanges and glitches but there's also the story of state exchanges and places like kentucky where the state exchange worked but other places in the country -- blue state, massachusetts, rhode island -- well, rhode island has a good story, massachusetts doesn't. massachusetts has 93.5% below the rate of enrollment it was projected to be at in september. given that, pro-publica analyzes that one of the reasons these state exchanges have not gotten fixed is because state officials basically said, hey, we know this thing i
