jeb bush coming in second with scott walker rounding out the top three. jeb bush does lead in another poll but probably not one the potential presidential candidate will be excited about. when voters asked which candidate they could definitely not support for the republican nomination bush ranked number one with 17%. weird weird, right? he's followed by chris christie and rand paul. let's talk about this and more. joining me now washington republican strategist and cnn political commentator an navarro. what do you make of this? >> you know i think a lot of people are reacting to his last name frankly. there's an entire faction in the republican party who wants anybody but jeb because of where he is on immigration and because of his last name and education and because he's too tall. you name it. i think jeb bush is very aware of that. so the carb lovers are offended. i think jeb bush is very aware of that. i was in new hampshire last week. heard him speak several times. and he knows he has to show his heart. he knows he has to show who he is and introduce

walker are eyeing campaigns, and so we wanted to see where senator rand paul is right now. i talked to chief national correspondent john king earlier. john in this crowd of candidates where does he stand? >> well, it is not bad, but he has to grow. we have been polling this question for a year and a half,ed a at one point he was 16%, and now at 12%, and a quick look at the history, at 16% a little more than a year ago that put him first place, and then governor huckabee and bush down there, and halfway through, chris christie with the buzz, and then rand paul strong and huckabee and rick perry there, and now a poll three weeks ago nationally and jeb bush ahead, and scott walker ahead, and you kcan bet since ted cruz likely has moved up since his announce announcement. what is it going to tell you that rand paul over that course of time has kept a steady base of 10 12 15% which is a good place to start, but he needs to grow. if he cozies up to the establishment, some might think from the tea party that cruz is better but on the foreign policy, some of the libertarians might

and we're seeing jeb bush and scott walker move ahead. what do you think rand paul needs to do to grow that support? do you think he needs to start talking about foreign policy? is that safe territory for him? >> he's a very tricky balancing act. he has a hard core of supporters who were supporters of his faith effort when he ran for president who are libertarians. which is to say they are people that wants small government, but not necessarily on cultural and foreign policy issues where they're out of sync with the christian right with abortion and gay rights. he needs to retain the passionate support of those people who supported his father, and yet also make in roads into the rest of the republican party, especially the christian evangelical wing of the republican party, which taking a very different view on foreign policy. so that's a very difficult balancing act. >> we don't know at this point if hillary clinton is going to throw her hat in the ring. it certainly looks like that is going to happen. if she does, who among all of those

. >> we saw scott walker saying he would go to the reception. how are they threading this needle here? >> i think it's a good sign of who governor casic is. they don't have to go around and pushing them on and i can still respect and support my friends even though they know how i feel on this issue, and i think jeb bush in the camp too, they are hoping the court will just take care of it for them this summer. >> is that a consistent saying i am uncomfortable with it but i would go myself. >> it's a great question. it reminds me of what republican candidates used to get tripped up on when they were asked what would you do if your daughter or granddaughter got an abortion and they were caught between the person and the policy. all of them have to find an answer to this and senator santorum said he would be consistent with his policy preferences and we will see how the others answer. >> are they out of step with the 2016 presidential electorate? >> they are out of step with what the majority of americans feel and i think they say, this is my person

i would say jeb bush scott walker and marco rubio. >> rubio ahead of rand paul? >> i would put him ahead of rand paul. i think rand paul will be very strong in the early contest, but if you look at somebody who has an ability to have staying power inside that republican primary, i'd put marco rubio up there. i think that's one of his big challenges chris, is if you look at that early primary calendar which state does he win? it's a hard -- that's a hard question to answer right now. but i think we have plenty of time to start putting the pieces together of their strategy where they can do that. >> what about this aspect? last night a big part of his theme which is just really strong when it comes to american values is i am middle class. my father's a bartender. my mother was a maid. and look at me. i've made it. the human example beats very often the conceptual model what we're seeing with hillary clinton. not that she came from such royal beginnings but now she is who she is. >> right. >> does that concern you? >> it doesn't concern me but i think it's an excell

this is now the lead pack with jeb bush scott walker rand paul and marco rubio. marco rubio's name is news today. this is the first time we've seen him run with the big dogs. he has doubled his numbers since he announced last week. what do you make of the numbers on your side? >> that was one thing i noticed, too. there seemed to be a little bit of a rubio boomlet in the numbers. i think rubio does have an opportunity heretofore a lot of those voters that are worried about seeming to genuflect towards the bush dynasty, rubio does represent a candidate who can make the case that he has a general election viability while at the same time offer inging an alternative to many folks who don't want to go with the bush name again. the other thing that's going to work to the advantage of the top tier is some of the folks on the right are where the race is actually the most crowded. cruz huckabee santorum perry if he decides to get in. a lot of them are going to be competing for the anti-establishment vote and i think it may give one of these candidates an opportunity to r
