. >> reporter: aaron, good morning. we are learning a little bit more about the man under arrest in this case. israel shimeles of alexandria virginia is charged with operating a vehicle on a revoked license. his car left unattended got the attention of capitol police on routine patrol. they spotted a pressure cooker and noticed the odor of gasoline. that's when the bomb squad came in to detonate several items which set off this loud bang. this all happened during the time of the memorial day concert festivities down on the national mall. capitol police reiterate there was never a threat to public safety. their officers simply spotted this car on routine patrol. now pressure cookers have been used in the past to become explosive devices. most recently, during the boston marathon back in 2013. that is the latest from the national mall. molette green. back to you. >> thank you. ♪ ♪ rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air ♪ >>> the police activity did not stop the 26th annual memorial day concert. thousands gathered on capitol hill. they honored the men and women in uniform w

shut down this morning. megan? >> reporter: well aaron, yeah we have a couple of road closures a stretch of reedet has closed as well as a portion of martin luther king avenue in glenarden area. you can see the police activity we have on the scene, investigators are trying to piece together what happened here. now, it was about 2:30 in the morning when a call came in for a car crash in the 3200 block of reed street. when police arrived, they looked into that car and that's where they found a man dead. now, i spoke a little while ago to a gentleman who works in the area. he works as a security guard and he heard the commotion as he reported to work this morning. he heard multiple gunshots. >> oh, man, had to be about seven or eight shots. a lot of shots. >> reporter: then what? >> then i saw smoke coming from the parking lot area. >> reporter: and the 3200 block of reed street is closed for the investigation. also martin luther king is closed between johnson avenue and ardwick ardmore in the glenarden area. police saying that's going to remain the case for an hour or two, at least

mcgrath picks up the story in college park. megan? >> reporter: well, good morning aaron. police thought that daron wint was in new york city. but they missed him there. they were able to track him to a hotel in maryland. we received information that that hotel is the howard johnson's on route 1 in college park. you can see over my shoulder here the police officer who has been stationed here outside of that hotel all night long. we are expecting more activity here later on this morning. u.s. marshals perhaps coming by to take a closer look here. the fugitive task force was preparing to move in and arrest wint when they saw him getting into a car with several other people. u.s. marshals followed that car into the district of columbia and they pulled it over in the 1000 block of rhode island avenue and arrested wint as well as arrested several others who were with him. now, also stopped and impounded by police was a small box truck. wint has been charged with first degree murder in the deaths of the savopoulos family and their housekeeper, vera figurera. police say that he murdered

. >> reporter: well good morning, aaron. at least 10,000 gallons of sewage has spilled. there are signs here posted warning people to stay away because this is all happening right behind homes on huron drive. this could go on for days. the problem being a cracked 14 inch sewage line. it's a big fix. wssc is working to redirect the waste water around that pipe. they're setting up temporary pipe from the leak to the nearest manhole. wssc is telling us that getting that bypass system operational could take days. in the meantime, some sewage has gone into oxon hill creek. forest hills elementary is nearby. so wssc said they're concerned about sewage getting into the creek and they tell us they're monitoring that situation very closely and aaron and eun, they're telling us they want to stress to everyone, they want to stress that this pill is not -- spill is not impacting drinking water. >> all right, thank you. >>> it's 5:02. we are hearing what led to this brutal beating inside a metro station. the man seen in the video is telling his side of the story. albert langeberg said the trouble st
