political commentator s.e cupp and we have former minnesota governor jennifer granholm and a full disclosure, we should add, governor, you are working with correct the record which is a major outside group backing hillary clinton. i want to put that out there. so s.e, to you first. what is the biden strategy if he gets in the race? how does he differentiate himself from hillary clinton? >> i think he needs to acknowledge that courting progressives is not the right road for him. democrats have been losing a lot of older male blue-collar voters and he is actually the perfect candidate to speak to that particular voter who might be a little turned off by hillary, definitely not into bernie sanders and but for biden might consider a republican so i would imagine that's the kind of campaign he would look to have if, in fact, he gets in. >> when you look, governor, at these public events that the vice president has over the next few days in key areas, key states, is he testing the waters? >> i think he's being a great vice president and highlighting the administration's policies. he's o

malveaux with dr. ben carson thank you very much. >>> joining us s.e. cupp or political capital at a timer ryan is lizzie and senior political reporter nia-malika henderson. dr. carson just mentioned it the new he beats her 51% to 46% in this hypothetical matchup. what do you make of that? >> well he's clearly had a very good summer. on the one hand you've seen him climb in the polls, and he's going head to head in many ways with trump at this point. the opposite is certainly true. she's taking it live. i think she's down ten points since the last poll. in talking to carson's people they feel like he's kind of running a race in some ways like donald trump, a slow and steady race. he has a demeanor that's very much opposite of what donald trump's sort of demeanor is. sometimes you have to lean in close, he speaks so softly. and one of the things i also they that he could possibly challenge a hillary clinton on is african-american voters. his people at the he could get maybe 15% of the african-american vote and that could eat into whatever the democrat would want to do in a general ele

commentator s.e. cupp. mike, you have some experience with the rnc. does it look good for the party chairman to make a pilgrimage to trump tower to get donald trump to sign a document that they cannot force him to comply with? >> well, yeah, first of all, i think it's a great victory for reince and i think reince has gone out of his way -- he takes it very seriously to treat all of these presidential campaigns the same. so this pledge isn't just going to donald trump. i think this pledge will have been given to every single one of the 17 candidates that were on two stages in the last debate, and they will all be asked to sign it. as you know, the first question at the debate was will you run as an independent or as a republican. donald trump said he's a republican. he's running in the republican primary. he's taking part in the republican debates. it's fitting that all the candidates would sign a pledge saying we're going to be a republican and the pledge will say i will support the republican nominee. and so for someone who has based his campaign on straight talk, this is a pledge

third in effect in most of the national polls. s.e.? >> all three of them, i think, are going to get a lot of attention with carly fiorina. i put the four of them sort of smack in the middle of most of the scrutiny. carly has to have a very good night after really clawing her way onto the main stage. donald trump, all eyes on him and jeb bush has to have a good night and show that he's got the fire in the belly and ben carson being at second place right now, a lot more scrutiny than he's ever gotten before. that's for sure. >> jeffrey, it's do or die for some guys up there. >> i was going to say, wolf, not just that they have to have a good night, if they don't which is likely in terms of a number of them, their donor base will go and they will have a problem raising money to stay in the game. >> money is critical now. ask the former texas three-term governor rick perry. >> yeah, if you said rick perry wouldn't survive and donald trump would dominate, you wouldn't believe it but here we are. >> they all have a notebook little piece of paper there. they got water, a pen, no other
