. >> good morning. we have a police action in the east bay in san leandro. it's shut down the east 14th off-ramp from north 238. it is shut down until about 6:00 this morning. but all lanes of the freeway remain open at this hour. we'll have more on this and information on roadwork at the dublin interchange still ahead. >>> breaking news in the east base. a police pursuit ends in gunfire. right now there's an investigation under way that has shut down the 238 off-ramp to east 14th street in alameda county. it all started a little before 1 a.m. this morning when oakland police were checking on reports of a shooting. officers started pursuing a car but called off the pursuit near san leandro. and later alameda county sheriff deputies spotted the suspects' car near the 238 off- ramp to east 14th street. there was an officer-involved shooting. the sheriff's office says their officers were not injured. but they don't have any information about whether or not any of the suspects were hit by gunfire. we have a reporter at the scene and we'll have the latest in a live report shortly. >>> a hearing

shooting. the incident started in oakland. it ended in san leandro. kpix 5's cate caugiran is live near northbound 238 and east 14th street where the shooting has that ramp shut down or did have it shut down for a while this morning. cate. >> reporter: it is right now. this was one wild chase that started in oakland. it ended in san leandro near this off-ramp. we still have officials here on scene investigators, as well. two people were shot. one of those was the suspect and that suspect is dead. late last night oakland police responded to a shooting and carjacking. the suspect shot the driver and took the car and led officers on a police chase. the suspect ditched the car and then chp got the call of another attempted carjacking with the suspect matching the description of the first incident. now, chp spotted that man on a freeway near the off-ramp where we are here in san leandro. and that suspect walking around the freeway shoots at chp hitting a passerby's car and then he ran to this area and deputies caught up with him. there was another shootout between deputies and the suspect. t

crimes on schedule campus. >>> thank you, janet. right now, we will go to san leandro for breaking news and an officer involved shooting along highway 238. amy hollyfield is near the scene. >> question, police are telling us they did shoot a suspect dead. they killed him. had was in san leandro. he was involved in two carjacking attempts and, also, a shoot out with officers. we have some video of the incident. you can see the crime scene is still here in san leandro. we are located at 170th avenue and east 14th. what we are told is that oakland police were involved in investigating a carjacking which the victim was shot. oakland miss lot the fire and alameda county sheriff got involve and found the car on 580 facing the wrong way on the freeway and they found it facing eastbound in the westbound side, westbound direction. then the sheriff got a report of another carjacking that was going on and they put two and two put and togetherred it was their guy. he was unsuccessful in that carjacking but they got a suspect description. later, when they did find him they say he shot at c.h.p.

joins us live at the bart station in san leandro. during the last closure the buses were working well with minimal delays. how is it going today? >> reporter: they seem to be working pretty well again, but you have a long holiday weekend and no transbay bart service and that is a real schal length when it comes to getting around, but riders seem to be taking notice. bart ridership down 40% today from a typical labor day holiday on ad@z saturday and the transb tube is bart's main link between the east bay and san francisco. also the west oakland station is closed, too, while crews work on worn out tracks. now, this is the second closure for its work. a bus bridge is running near the 19th street bart station in oakland taking ride towers san francisco. early today not too bad, took 20 to 30 minutes to get into the city. freeway message signs alerted drivers and riders well in advance that this was coming. now of course delays were expected on other bridges and alternate routes. the advice was to stay close to home or use public transportation but other agencies did step in to help.

stay open through this afternoon. an suv hit a power pole in san leandro. alex savidge is there live that has shut down the connector between 880 and everything else. right alex? >> reporter: yes, it is. the southbound connector from 880 and everywhere else. it was an out of control suv that caused this problem here. you can see mg e crews are here for -- it will take several hours to get this wrapped up and in the meantime this transition may not be reopened. now the initial accident happened just after midnight when the suv slammed into a power pole and that struck a small brush fire. there were two adults and two kids inside that suv is. we were told they all had minor injuries and again we are told the connector will be closed for a number of hours and in the meantime big rigs we're told are being allowed to use 580 in this area. just get around this area with the connector shut down. it could be quite some time for -- >> it brings to mind the other closure we had on 101 when the huge tower came down. this doesn't sound like it is as complicated even though it will take awhile. >
