cnbc's louisa boyson joins us live from london. if the deal is is aproved by congress, and that is a big if, what would it mean for american consumers? >> well, it basically means that you're opening up to a lot more trade. that you're opening up to make it easier for consumers to gain access to goods from abroad and vice versa, as well. it is a big deal because it's the first and largest free trade agreement in a generation. again, it opens markets for u.s. goods and services, as well. it establishes rules of international commerce, too. so it is very much a two-way street. but it's something they've been working on for a very long time. they still need final ratification as you indicate, as well, from congress next year. president obama quickly turned toward selling this deal on capitol hill. it's going to be tough to push through, and not just in the u.s. you're also looking at elsewhere where they had to endure some very tough compromises, and they could face some harsh competition when push comes to shove. like the canadians.
