. michelle roberts joins us live from salinas where that abuse allegedly took place. i know you were in the courtroom today. what happened? >> well, the arraignment has been postponed two weeks. the suspects in the case only answered two quick questions by the judge about their name and birth date, and they kept their backs turned to the camera the entire time. tammy turned her back to cameras in the salinas courtroom. her boyfriend sat a few seats down. 17-year-old gonzalo curio was blocked by his attorney. the 17-year-old is being tried as an adult. accused of killing two children in their care and torturing the 9-year-old girl. today, a judge accepted a request by the defense to postpone the arraignment. they're facing felony child abuse, torture, and mayhem charges. officials were called to the department that huntsman shared. someone called 911 to report child abuse. huntsman had temporary custody of three children, all distance relatives. the sheriff's department says a 9-year-old girl was found malnourished and severely beaten. investigators later discovered the bodies of a 3-

area michelle roberts is on the field and joins us from the stadium. a huge challenge from the nfl. they have to prepare for el nino. >> yeah, i saw it up close. it looks great, and the experts say the dropping durable grass would actually be ready to play on tonight because it's in such good condition and, of course, they are going to let it settle and grow for the next couple of weeks, but that also means that they might have to protect it from some serious rain. >> piece by piece the dirt at levi stadium was covered in green. today crews laid 75,000 square feet of fresh super bowl grass. >> it's a special product. it's grown a special way. >> nfl field director ed m ha ngan says he checks the weather forecast at least once an hour. >> we'll deal with mother nature as she comes. >> but if el nino storms bring massive been towers on the freshly laid grass m ha ngan admits it could be an issue. >> an inch and a half an hour, that could be a problem. >> rain and cold weather tarps will be used to protect the field and rain or not, he says the growing process will be closely monitore

. >> reporter: michelle roberts, bay area news. >>> we're check in with anthony slaughter. >> we're talking about rain in the forecast tomorrow. in fact we'll see a series of storms head our way for tomorrow, monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday. then we'll see a dry day friday. get the umbrellas ready. hopefully you got rain gear for christmas. here we go. the el nino we've been talking about, well, the ramifications of it are actually starting to happen. the el nino is a phenomenon. it happens every few years, so it's not just one big el nino storm that's headed our way. it's a series of storms we'll be tracking over the next couple of months. that means the stage will be set for flooding rains as we head through the next couple of months. get ready we're trying to get you the heads up now. a series of storms is lining up across the pacific. we have clouds in place this morning, a few low clouds as we get ready for the rain. we'll see a good mix of sun and clouds through the day today. temperatures aren't going to be that warm but not as cold as it has been. back into the midsgifr 50s. 54

"today in the bay"'s michelle roberts explains. >> reporter: valley christian's vice president says on a typical winter day about 3% of his students call in sick. on wednesday, more than 8% of the junior high and high school students were absent. >> most with the stomach influence, throwing up. no fever, no headache, necessarily. they went home. >> reporter: school administrators say once they noticed the uptick in sick calls, they tried to minimize the threat of infection. >> tried to clean door handles, sinks, basketballs, anything a student might touch, we washed it down with a bleach solution. >> reporter: the health department is working with school officials to control the gastrointestinal outbreak. none of the students tested positive for the norovirus, also referred to as the stomach influence. the health department said, though, the norovirus is extremely common and california has reported a spike in cases. >> it's important that they go home as soon as possible so they don't get anybody else sick and they should stay home until a da
