consider the walt disney company. disney reported much better than expected earn ings. to quote bob eiger, i am thrilled to report that the performance was the single greatest quarter in the history of the walt disney company and a start to fiscal 16. he said revenue is up. net income up 32%. adjusted earn ings up 28% to a buck 63 which is the highest quarterly per share ever. and the tenth consecutive of earn ings share growth. our long term strategic focus in investment and brands and franchises are drawing value in the businesses. with this good news how much did the stock go up today. three, four points? wrong. in fact, it plunged. it lost more than three bucks or 4% today. [ booing ] >> it hit a new low of 86. now in heck is that possible. how can a stock like clorox with meager growth sell 26 times earn ings while disney sells less than the average stock in the s&p 500. how does hormel, the maker of spam, trade literally at twice the price to earn ings multiple of this amazing company. the answer on wall street is simple. much of disney's growth comes from espn. t

disney reported its best quarter ever. profits hit record levels thanks to the global success of its latest star wars movie and all that merchandise tied to it. the company earned a buck 63 a share. expectations were for 1.45. that's a 28% profit gain from last year. revenue, up to 15 billion. also better than expected, a 14% increase from a year ago. despite the strong results, disney reported a drop in profit at its cable networks and that may have pressured shares in after hours trading. julia boorstien spoke to bob iger. >> disney results beating on the top and bottom line. driven in large part by its movie studio and the success of star wars the force awaken, bringing the movie studio its first ever quarter with over a billion dollars in earnings. bob iger saying it wasn't just star wars . that they're seeing success across the board. >> we also had over 20% growth from parks and resorts and kuler products, but media was down because of the timing of college playoffs. we had four businesses that had a good quarter. go

it's not just disney prices going up. the aarp is out with a report today confirming what we already know about prescription drug prices. they're also going up, a lot. the average price for a year's supply of a prescription drug has actually doubled in the last year. that works out to about three-quarters of what the average social security makes each year. the report studied more than 600 of the most frequently prescribed drugs most of which increase in price on average about 10% per year, hence the double in seven years. not great news for consumers, especially those on a fixed income who need those drugs so badly. if you are planning this trip to disney this year, you will be paying more for that too. disney is rolling out this whole new pricing strategy this week, it's a lot like how airlines you pay more in peak season, less in off peak. this is a new strategy. it's a day pass to the magic king kingdom during peak season will cost you $124 per person, that's a 20% increase from last year. off peak, you'll pay roughly
