. ♪ tonight brazil jump-starts south america's first summer olympics. first showcasing the history of the country and its current culture, arts and beauty. more than 10,000 athletes will compete in these games tonight, many of them walking into maracana stadium with a smile, including the americans. michael phelps leading the 554 athletes from the u.s. into a warm reception. >> being my fifth olympics, it's an honor and really a dream come true. >> reporter: more than 200 nations...
