cbs north carolina's a.j. far? >> hey, if you guys haven't been watching the news, you're waking up on oak island, you've kind of been living in a rock and you woke up and walked out to this, you might think hey, it's a little rainy but today is a good start to the labor day weekend. if you look behind me, the ocean looks pretty calm, other than the fact that the -- the tides pushing up very irregularly. i had to change my shoes a couple minutes ago because it came up sor everybody knows there is a storm working its way up the coast. i did speak to a lot of people yesterday who are krosing -- crossing their fingers, hoping this is the worst we can get. we were talking to people who drove hours away to come down to oak island and enjoy labor day weekend, but everybody here on the island, officials with the town, as well as the county, are preparing for what could be the worst. their main concerns are flooding in the area. they say a lot of parts of this town do flood. specifically with brunswick county's emergency m

many of you are dry across western central north carolina. this could sneak in here very late tonight. so ad it's 100% in the 70s right now. that sure does look good, doesn't it? as our days continue to get shorter, three days in a row with temperatures in the 70s. 20%. we'll lower it a bit at 10:00 and then the showers the mountains work their way. temperatures starting off in the upper 60s. so the cold front is here. it's in our state. it hasn't come all the way through yet. it will stay here for the next few days. because of that fact and because of the fact there's areas of low pressure, more instability along the cold front, the clouds and rain are going to hang out for a few more days like the cold front. so tomorrow is now expected to be our wettest day of the week. i'll pick it up. remember the showers i showed you in some of them lingering around our area late tonight but as you can see clearing out. might see some thinner clouds, maybe a break in the clouds but we are looking at a mostly cloudy day and another mostly dry morning. by
