adam kinzinger from the house foreign affairs committee. he is back home in his district. thank you for your time today. you heard from reince priebus was saying. what's the truth based on what you've heard so far? >> i tell you what we know. we know that general flynn had conversations with russia. which i think was inappropriate but probably not illegal. we know it covered it up to the vice president and that's why he lost his job. we know that there has been no accusation of direct involvement by the president with the russians so far. now, there are questions about within the campaign and i think the senate intel and house intel committee will do their job and look into that as they should and the american people deserve. we also know that some on the left are trying to create this massive 9/11 commission which will turn this into a big partisan affair based on no solid accusation that the president himself has had any collusion. >> bill: priebus was asked about that. we know the senate committee has said preserve your email records and you'll find nothing there. limba

committee and the one at the white house by sean spicer and the one that just concluded with adam schiff. here's what the bottom line here is. there is a lot we don't know. and that's what the fbi, that's what the intelligence community, are trying to get to the bottom of. let's take what sean spicer says. he was asked whether there should be a special prosecutor. frankly it's early to be asking that question because the investigations are still ongoing. would don't know. there is a lot of questions that are unanswered. sean very smartly said well, what is there to see here? there is nothing to see here, let's move on. that's pretty much the same question from devin nunes. which is he says that there is absolutely nothing he has seen that indicates any contacts that are of concern and that he thinks there is no there there. you hear from adam schiff. he says there are still a lot of open questions. and so the investigation should continue before anybody makes any conclusions. and i think that's the most important part of this, briana because here's what we do know at this point, we know,

immediate president john adams were controlled by the federalist party which was hostile to france and the democratic party led by thomas jefferson was pro-france and anti war but there was not a lot they could do about it. there was one democratic senator who was a philadelphia doctor named george logan. he was a democratic republican, friend of thomas jefferson personally, a quaker, a pacifist, very pro-french. he thought if he could get to france and meet with france's leaders he might be able to talk them back from the edge and keep his country out of war. george logan was a prominent person. it was no one of the stature that would be needed to go and negotiate with a country's foreign leader. it would be like taking out a second mortgage to go to iran and negotiate a better nuclear deal. he spent his money and sold parcels of land to finance the trip. he went to france and was able to meet with france's leaders. france had seen the wisdom of walking back. it was impossible to determine what george logan's real impact was. but the french thought there was a lot of impact for his at

so we spoke to the top democratic in the house intelligence, adam schiff. if there were phone conversations and separate encrypted conversations that raises potentially some issues. >> no questions. adam schiff as you know is very careful. interesting for him to bring that up in a public context. the key is how they were used, right? using encrypted communications by themselves, not necessarily incriminating. there are loads of people in washington who do that, they're just worried about having a constant digital diary for every word that you communicate, text, e-mail, et cetera. so that by itself is not. then it becomes a question of context. was it with a russian official, when, was it before taking office? what was the context of those discussions? did it happen just after a phone call where it would then give the insinuation that you were trying to avoid being watched. to my knowledge, there is no evidence it was used to avoid surveillance by the fbi or for others, but it's still an open question. >> it's a serious question. we'll take a look at that. >
