us live from sydney is tina davis, a human rights specialist who has studied, and made an award winning documentary on modern day slavery and child labour. welcome to the programme. thank you for joining welcome to the programme. thank you forjoining us. firstly, why is it that you think that asia, more than any other region in the world, has this problem with child labour? well, one of the key factors is poverty. and it is a development issue. there are numerous sectors, low—paid sectors, that have not really grown much, and this is one of the labour problems that often end up in the informal sectors. lack of education, as you mentioned, there is conflict and natural disaster, so for instance, when you see the natural disaster in nepal, you also know that this will then escalate the number of children who end up in labour. also the more severe forms, like human trafficking, forced labour... you have been studying and documenting this for a number of years. i am keen to hear what your observations of years of work have been, and what you have concluded. it is a complex area. b
