meteorologist bill henley is tracking those changes to our weather. welcome changes, bill, in the first alert forecast. there might be cooler temperatures heading into the weekend. we're certainly seeing much cooler weather this morning than yesterday morning. numbers are running 25 degrees cooler in neighborhoods. 56 degrees in philadelphia. six mile-an-hour breeze. still a light breeze out of the northwest that will keep the dry air in place, keep coming in. the temperature warms to 66 degrees by lunchtime. leave the jacket this morning or a sweater. this afternoon, typical fall weather, a nice warmup into the 70s. beautiful sunshine today for the suburbs. it's chilly right now. a mix of 40s and 50s. we'll warm through the 50s, and then into the middle 60s by noontime. sunshine and peaking in the low 70s this afternoon for the suburbs and the lehigh valley. look at the glow in the sky. winds have died down. three miles per hour, clear skies, dry air. the temperatures are in the 40s. and we'll still be in the 40s at 8:00. with sunshine, blasting thro

let's get right to bill henley with his first accurate forecast. >> the temperatures are starting off in the 60s this morning and the low 70s. 71 degrees in philadelphia. skies are mostly clear, so a lot of sunshine, once it's up the temperatures will be climbing by 9:0075 degrees. northerly winds at 8 miles an hour. lots of sunshine for new jersey, the suburbs, the lehigh valley and delaware, look at the afternoon temperatures today. 86 degrees for delaware, up to 86 for the lehigh valley and at the shore you'll see the sunshine there too with a high of 80 degrees this afternoon. meantime, 87 degrees in philadelphia. that's more than ten degrees warmer than normal for this time of year. we're still seeing some of the influence of jose in the area. i'll take a look at that when i come back in ten minutes but first jessica boyington has your first look at traffic. >> vine street expressway closed in both directions. traffic being diverted off of the off ramp over there. everything is good right now in both directions. other than that, of course in between broad street and the schuylkil

bill henley as your most accurate forecast. >> jose is pushing farther away from us and weakening at the same time so we're seeing less of an effect than we have all week long. philadelphia, clear skies, just a gentle breeze blowing. just 7 miles an hour winds and look at that at the shore. even lighter. 5 miles per hour for atlantic city, down to 3 in wildwood. the wind will still be with us during the day today but not as strong during the day. a few clouds that are spinning into the area off of jose which is just offshore and the rain stays offshore. that's impacting new england into the cape cod, they'll see some heavy surf there and gusty winds but our area will stay dry. the rip current risk along the coast is still elevated but other than that a beautiful last full day of summer. clouds and shower off the cold front, but this is going to fall apart as it stays out of the area. jose's rains will also stay out so right on through the day, this is 4:30 this afternoon. you'll see dry conditions. some scattered clouds at times especially into the evening hours at 10:30 this evening

right to meteorologist bill henley with the latest on the storm. >>> we're seeing this system inch closer as it weakens. it's not looking as impressive as yesterday. we're now seeing large bands of rain moving toward the east coast. that includes our area, too. we've already seen a few scattered showers in southern delaware, move into sussex county. most of the rainfall this hour is just offshore. bands will be moving inland during the day. as the day goes on, you'll see more showers, more wind, more rain, and the potential for some flooding. there's a chance of some minor flooding this morning at the shore and moderate flooding later today. the jersey shore, delaware beaches, under our first alert for the tropical impacts from the storm through thursday morning. it's going to be lingering off shore. don't expect it to make landfall. it's going to be in the vicinity to our east. it's going to be churning up the seas. high surf, rip current risk will remain high. high winds, especially along the coa coastline, moderate flooding later today. beach erosion is likely, as well. right now, 70 i

we'll get to meteorologist bill henley and the first alert issued because of jose. >> yeah, it is going to get closer. it is going to stay off shore. this is a weakening storm system but still a hurricane. 85-mile-an-hour winds. it's moving north. that's why it will steel like it's getting stronger. the weakening storm gets closer. we'll start to see the effects today. clouds moving in. later today, there's a chance of showers along the coastline. yesterday and continuing today and again tomorrow, the rough surf, a rip current risk is very high. so the jersey shore, the delaware beaches, why we've issued a first alert for the tropical impacts from the storm system. you'll feel it later today and through thursday morning. the chance of high surf and dangerous rip currents will stay with us through the time. minor coastal flooding with heavy rainfall possible tomorrow and also elevated ways the high tides coming in could cause minor flooding at the shore and beach erosion, as well. as well as dangerous winds later tomorrow and tomorrow night. this morning, dealing with fog in the suburbs.
