and sonoma county. because of the strong winds fueling those fires, people in many parts of the bay area can smell that smoke. dozens have taken to social media and smelling the smoke. if you believe your nose, you can be tricked into feeling the fires are closer than they are. ashes falling in the sunset district. you can see the streets and a haze is hanging over the city. the san francisco fire department has an important message saying that dozens have already reported smelling smoke and they're asking people to close their windows and not to call 911 and unless they see a fire in the immediate area. san mateo officials have a similar message and said the smell of smoke is being reported as well. only call 911 if there is an actual fire in your immediate area. reporting in the newsroom, devin fehely, kpix5. >> only call 911 if you have an emergency right in front of you. otherwise, if you can hunker down in your house, that would be recommended. in santa rosa, several hospitals are being evacuated.

our highest threat napa county hills, sonoma county hills. offshore wind speeds. exposed ridges will be the most concerning overnight and also heading into the morning hours. closer look at our future wind speeds tonight. breezy for santa rosa but going into tomorrow single digits for a lot of these locations. it won't be till friday night that once again we see our wind speeds picking back up again. wind gusts closer to 40 miles per hour and staying that way between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and about 10:00 a.m. on saturday morning. that is when we will see the strongest wind speeds. these will start to calm down late saturday night. our overnight lows will be cold in napa in the low 40s, high 30s. 50s for san francisco. we will talk more about your weather coming up in a bit. >>> there are still more than 250,000 people in the north bay who have lost power since sunday because of the deadly fire storm. they have been working through the night and day since then to get power back on. tonight 80% has been restored. they say most of the outages are in napa and sonoma
