vladimir putin and bashar al assad. they metinsochi, russiato discuss ways to end syria's bloody civil war, that has dragged on for seven years. and now, there's word that president trump will talk with vladimir putin by phone in the wake of that leader. peter alexander has more on this. >> reporter: white house officials telling me that presidents trump and vladimir putin will speak by phone this morning, after the rare meeting between putin and the syrian dictator bashar al assad. this conversation is expected to focus on the future of syria, where the u.s. and russia have clashed over years on the path forward. putin and his government have been manage assad's chief supporters. now, with the bloody civil war, the kremlin is pressing for a settlement to cement assad's hold on power. putin lavished praise on his work. this is the second time these two meters have met face-to-face since russia began its fierce military campaign backing assad. both those meetings shrouded in secrecy. the kremlin says putin will be calling president trump, as well as other leaders in that region. savanna
