. >> scott mcgrew new clues as to why president named a new head of intelligence. >> let me walk you through this, marcus and laura, update on what we talked about yesterdayment thursday we reported that president trump has named richmond grenell as the new acting director of national intelligence. it was an unexpected move. grenell has little experience in intelligence gathering but it wasn't beyond the pail. trump clearly trusted him. he is the ambassador to germany. yesterday in my reports to you i said grenell if apoved by the senate would replace dan coats, another trump appointee who had been dni but trump fired him. trump had issues with coats, particularly when with coats would talk with about russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. so we had grenell and we had coats. i had intentionally skipped mentioning this guy, he's joe maguire, the current acting dni put into place by trump after trump fired coats. i didn't think maguire was worth mentioning but it turns out maguire is key to all of this. scott mcgrew, he won last night in iowa. >> when we say there is no official return from the caucus, we mean the democrats. the democrats waiting on the results. the democratic national chairman a few seconds ago saying a new app used to tab the votes was not coded properly. and so they are not getting the results as they had hoped to get. the app was built by a company called shadow ink. a scriptwriter could not have come up with a worse maim for the company. we don't know what democrat won the race and you'll see headlines like this this one duh moines and with implodes and this is not fair because the last time they held the 2016 presidential race, we didn't get the results until 10:00 a.m. the next day. today california time. so if we got the results right now, the caucuses would have worked better now than they did four years ago. truth is caucusing is just this really old-fashioned, really ugly messy way to conduct democracy. but it is what iowa does. here is one young caucus-goer who showed up to support buttigieg but they didn't have enough to count and he would have to switc

. >> decision 2020 kicks off for real today, scott mcgrew. >> for real. with the iowa caucus. republicans in iowa will gather to show support for trump for the three lesser known republican candidates. democrats will be choosing from all kinds of candidates. at different times, different polls have different people ahead but biden, buttigieg, warren, sanders have been at top of the list. iowa caucus is different than what we do here in california. in california you show up any time and you vote with a ballot. in iowa, you go to a person's house or a high school gym, a church in des moines, several mosques at a predesignated place and time and you actually walk and stand in one corner or another based on who you support. if your group isn't big enough you have to leave your group, move to another. so if you support, say, andrew yang but you're the only one and then you move to put your support behind a second choice. four democrats running in iowa won't won't be in iowa. they'll be in washington listening to the impeachment trial with a vote on acquittal coming on wednesday. on
