new brunswick granted a texas-based company, southwestern energy, licenses to explore for shale gas - in exchange for investment worth 47 million dollars. if shale gas extraction goes ahead, it will be a boon to new brunswick's struggling economy. the province anticipates it could generate over a thousand jobs and 1.5 billion dollars staunching the exodus of workers west to alberta's oil sands. >> to have that kind of revenue inflow and that kind of potential, it would have a dramatic impact on the province. in fact, on the studies we looked at just a few weeks ago indicates that shale gas development could actually double the economic growth rates in the province. >> three years later these were the images from new brunswick flashing across canadian television screens. royal canadian mounted police guns trained on first nations people, police cars sent up in flames. >> we seized a number of firearms from the encampments at the protest site. we also found explosive devices, a large amount of ammunition knives, and bear spray. several shots were fired from within the encampment. molo

update from marc officials. they tell me the brunswick east 884 train is canceled. the 874 harpers ferry is on time and the boyds 870 is on a ten-minute delay. for what we know about the investigation, take a look at some of this video we got early crer this morning. investigators with montgomery county police department have been here since about 1:45 this morning trying to figure out what happened. they tell us right now they know a young adult man was hit and killed here on the tracks at the marc commuter rail station here in germantown. they don't know what happened, why this man was on the tracks. if this was intentional and he has not been identified. i've been standing out here the past few minutes and a few commuters have been coming out here. they didn't know what was going on. they are operating on an s schedule today because this is still technically a holiday for marc so be sure to check the schedule in terms of that. but these riders that were out here a few minutes ago have left because of all of these delays that we've been seeing here this morning. marc says they'll

eye on the marc train brunswick line after a crash involving a train and a truck. chopper 4 flew over the scene last night. this is at the cross on forest glen road and trains are running on time this morning we are being told. molette green live at the kensington station with a look there. how is it going? >> reporter: aaron, good morning. a couple of minutes ago, the first few passengers boarded the train here in kensington. it was not expected to be crowded. it wasn't crowded. they got on board and went along their way into union station. we got word early that some of the brunswick line trains would be running with one conductor and to expect delays of course throughout the morning. and also, some -- one train with two fewer rail cars and people knew that they're well in tune to what's going on on this line. the whole situation started with these delays yesterday evening during the rush hour when the maintenance truck was on the tracks and a train full of passengers more than 600 people, slammed right into it. i talked to one gentleman who just left a few moments ago. he was on --

brunswick. chopper 2 over the scene. this congregation is located on nielsen street. fire broke out around 4:00. surrounding buildings have been evacuated. let's check with joe biermann now with the latest. joe. >> reporter: yup. the fire started about 4:30. we spotted it all the way from linden airport about 10 miles away and came to new brunswick to 145 nielsen street, the cross street is bayard in the heart of new brunswick. that synagogue, the fire reportedly started up on the third floor, went through the roof. it is now through the rear and side windows of the building. it is not yet under control. it is a multi-alarm fire here. you can see the intensity of the flames coming through the core of the building. we'll take you down to the front door of the synagogue. you can see it is just charred and they continue to pour water through the front door. no word how it got started. so far, no word of any injuries. and just a horrible time for this to happen on the -- just the start of the sabbath, um, but again, no injuries to report. multi-alarm fire, 145 nielsen street here in new
