in china, emerging market story has not improved in about 7 or 8 years, so can you take us around the world, and talk to us about what the oil story is telling us about economics. >> energy great indicator how economy is performing peels that economy here in u.s. just a very sluggish economy, ever since the down turner of 2009 we have never really found our legs. we just been kind of sliding along, at a very, very modest growth, europe pretty much sliding sideways they've had little uptick this year we saw a little improvement in energy demanded in europe, i think result of the low proices in china rate of growth continues to bend over energy demand in china had been running 4 to 5% per year this we are seeing about 3 1/2%. demand for crowd oil next ear year we think going to line to further to about 3% so he seeing that chinese economy, part of it is the economy maturing a bit beginning to slower trade of growth so if you look at energy as kind of a proxy for how the economy is going it is pretty sluggish, and there is not a lot that we can see on the horizon through next year th

. >> maria: did china agree to take $200 billion out of -- to spend $200 billion on u.s. goods? >> well, we agreed with a frame framework for going forward that had a number of elements to it. it had some specific thoughts on specific products which we'll be trying to flush out and it covered lots of other things, the intellectual property, forced technology transfers, a whole gamut of things. but it's not a definitive agreement. it's a framework. >> maria: so are you saying that china then admits to intellectual property theft? >> i didn't say they admitted to anything. i said the issues we addressed were the ones that i just described. >> maria: right. because what i'm asking is, if they're not even admitting that they steal our intellectual property, how are they going to agree to have any changes? that is the issue, right, the theft of intellectual property and the forced transfer of technology. what about that framework addresses those things? >> the framework went into a number of potential legislative changes, very all-encompassing thing. for the moment it's at the 40,00

president's going to continue to fight to lower drug prices for them. maria: let me move on to china. this weekend the retaliatory tariffs from china on u.s. goods go into effect. on the $60 billion of u.s. goods. are we at a stalemate at this point? do you see an end to china fight? >> well, i would tell you that it's been, it's been amazing to watch this president and the way that he's forged relationships with leaders around the world. being with prime minister trudeau here in canada, seeing the way he was able to negotiate the usmca with canada and mexico, and it all begins with president trump with personal relationships. and i've witnessed it. that relationship people saw with prime minister abe that now has us talking about a free trade agreement with japan. the president will be traveling to u.k. just in a few days, and you'll see that relationship writ large as he visits with the queen and as we continue to talk to e.u. about the possibility of a free trade agreement even as brexit continues to work its way through for the u.k. but with regard to china, i can attest firsthan

respect to china, the deal is coming along very well. we'll see what happens we're taking in billions and billions of dollars from china in the form of tariffs. i think the deal will probably happen. i think they need it very badly. nobody's ever really seen anything quite like what's happening. we did the mexico and canada deal, usmca. that's going very well. i think that it should get a approved pretty quickly by congress because it's a great deal. nafta to me was one of the worst deals i've ever seen. i think the wto is terrible by the way. we're doing better with wto, winning cases all of a sudden because we never won cases. now we're starting to win cases because they know my attitude. if they don't treat us fairly, we get out. there's a big difference there. we're doing a good job. we finished up at 3.1 gdp, everybody -- that hasn't been done in 14 years. maybe more than that. but 14 years. and i think we have tremendous momentum right now and you're right, the world is slowing but we're not slowing. and frankly, if we didn't have somebody that would raise interest rates and do quan

democrats do something about trade with china including the threat of intellectual propert. they did nothing. chuck and i have agree on this issue, fair trade plus with china will happen.
