it was an embarrassment to hollywood. it was clearly out of the studio system for a wink and a nod for providing these blacklisted authors for pennies on the dollar and continuing to make success and money on their work and yet they were excised from hollywood. i think it's fair to say trumbo delighted a little bit in the fact that he had won an academy award or screenwriting for the brave one and yet was unable to go and claim it himself. in subsequent interviews he said that i don't claim to be any one particular pseudonym or another and in that way i receive credit for all the great screenwriting efforts that are out there and none of the blame for the bad ones. trumbo did receive an academy award for roman holiday in which he was one of the screenwriters but not credited until years later. he used as a front one of his friends names. at the academy awards his friend received it and it wasn't until dalton trumbo in his final year of life said it actually was corrected that he should have been credited for that screenpl
