the world's best known landmarks. also a rash of violence is prompting san jose's top cop to take action. coming up, the big change coming to the streets of san jose. >>> good morning. thanks for being with us. i'm marla tellez. jon kelly has the morning off. we begin with gunfire on the streets of manhattan where an ordinary morning in new york city turns tragic. two people are dead and at least nine others injured after officials say a man upset about being laid off shot and killed his former office manager right in front of the empire state building. police say 58-year-old jeffrey johnson walked up to his former colleague just after 9:00 this morning and shot him in the head. he tried to take off but ended up in a chaotic showdown with police on fifth avenue. johnson was shot and killed and several were hurt, some inadvertently by police gunfire. those people are expected to arrive. mayor michael bloomberg says the shooting is a reminder that although new york is the safest big city in the country, it's not immune to senseless gun violence. >> i ask everyone to keep the victims
