limit our access to them. and could expose us to retaliatory measures. they believe it will be bad for the economy to pull out. >> well, when you look -- "the new york times" had an article within the last couple of days talking about small business celebrating, euphoria, with respect to the president's decision. it's very speculative in my estimation, george, for those multinational companies to say this is going to somehow impact the exporting of green technology across the globe. what we do know -- what we do know, objectively, is that the paris agreement represented a $2.5 trillion reduction in our gross domestic product over ten years. what we do snow that it impacted up to 400,000 jobs. and so this was something that was bad for our government. it makes common sense. that when you take energy sector jobs and say, we're no longer going to produce energy in those sectors, it will affect the manufacturing base and jobs in the country. we have had over 50,000 coal jobs, mining jobs, since last quarter created in this country. almost 7,000 mining and coal jobs created in the month

russian intelligence. nbc's intelligence and national security reporter, ken delanian is with us and ken karl, let's start with you. you have been looking into akhmetshin. what else do we know about him? is there evidence he was working with the kremlin during that meeting last year? >> well, i don't know about working with the kremlin specifically, but he was certainly lobbying on behalf of a cause that was near and dear to vladimir putin's heart which is against these magnitsky act sanctions targeting human rights violators. he has been doing that for a long time as has the lawyer, veselnitskaya. they both contend the story behind those sanctions is a fraud and have been arguing that case to anyone in washington who will listen. but in general, i mentioned he's kind of a washington figure, he's a fixer, he works in the shadowy world of corporate intelligence gathering. he does have a military background, but he moved here in the '90s, became a u.s. citizen, travels abroad, speaks french, speaks multiple languages, is a rather charming fellow known by many reporters in town. his appeara

for being with us. i want to ask you what your initial reaction was when you heard the fbi director james comey was fired. >> obviously firing in fbi director is no small thing and quite a serious matter. i think the truth is james come comey, who is a worthwhile and dedicated public servant, i think you lost the confidence of a lot of republicans and a lot of democrats aced upon his conduct, his actions, and some of the comments he made. most importantly, he lost the confidence of the president, and it's entirely within the president's role and authority to relieve him. that's what he did. >> bret: were you given a heads up? >> rights before it happened. he basically called me when i got off a flight to tell me he had made the decision. i also think if you take a look at the fact that he was losing confidence in the justice department might think the president felt the right thing to do was to let him go, move on. i think it's really important at this point now that we find a replacement soon, so that he was very qualified and capable so we can get that person up and running soon,
