state senator wendy davis joins me from texas. she took on a bill that would restrict abortion rights in the texas legislature. taking on governor perry as well. senator davis, welcome to "meet the press." >> thank you. good morning, david. >> for all that you've achieved in terms of your pro vial and your views, are you not just delaying the inevitable? governor perry has a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks. will that become law? >> i don't think it's acceptable to concede on important articles like this. what we saw in the capital last week, is people weary of our politicians trying to boost their own political careers on the backs of women, by bullying them. and others, honestly, in order to promote agendas that help them personally. these are matters of personal liberty. in texas, we hold very dear to intrusions against our personal liberty. we fight very hard against that. and we will fight, as we begin the session again on monday. i don't think that we'll concede that the battle is over. and even if this bill pass

and now state senator wendy davis of texas says she personally will filibuster the antiabortion bill and just stand on the floor and personally keep talking until the midnight deadline to stop it from being voted on in the senate. that, of course, would stop everything in the special session from passing. stop a huge transportation spending bill, stop a big juvenile justice bill. but also this ban that would shut down 37 clinics in the state, it would ban abortion everywhere in texas at 20 weeks, it would effectively ban all legal abortion in all of west texas. wendy davis and the democrats say they will hold the floor all night, again, and as long as it takes to stop it. republicans, meanwhile, say they will do anything it takes to get it passed. and the protesters, the citizens' filibuster, has raised a real question as to who is actually going to win this fight. texas, who knew. we'll keep you posted. >>> this is what a heavily redacted document looks like. somebody sat at a desk all day and cloaked the heck out of about 80% of these documents with a sharpie marker. there's enough

we'll begin overnight in texas with the drama that has many americans hearing the name wendy davis for the first time because davis, a democratic state senator there filibustered the sb-5 anti-abortion bill for over 11 hours going late into the night and drawing attention across the country as thousands were watching live online. >> if we were truly talking about women's health care, if we were truly talking about making sure women were safe after an abortion, this is the kind of thing that goes right to the heart of that. and that we could agree. >> the bill would have banned abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy and forced the closure of most abortion clinics in the state. according to texas filibuster rules, davis had to stay on topic, could not lean on anything, and could not take a bathroom break. and she would continue to speak until just under the 11-hour mark when republican lieutenant governor david dewhurst ruled davis violated the senate's three-strike rule, a decision not well received by supporters outside the senate chamber. let her speak, let her speak. let her speak. le
