think about the history in wisconsin. unions led the fight for affordable health care, safe working conditions, better wages. and today, they are at the forefront of the movement to raise the minimum wage, which would lift millions of families out of poverty. [applause] but here in wisconsin, governor walker has spent the last five years stripping workers of their rights, limiting collective bargaining, and devastating public unions. you have seen that firsthand. in these attacks on unions are not just bad for unions and their members. they are bad for everybody. they drive down wages for everybody. they undermine the kind of changes we need for everybody. they stopped our progress. [applause] and what's really scary is ted cruz and the other republicans -- say they want to do across the country what scott walker has done here, imposing national right to work laws of that would depress wages and benefits undercut unions, concentrate power in the hands of corporations and their allies. this is something else that is not on

[applause] wisconsin is a firewall. we've got to make sure the 10 electoral votes of wisconsin do not get turned over to hillary clinton. we need to do everything we can to win this election here in wisconsin. and what gives me hope as i look out to the crowd, talking to the folks of wisconsin, i can't think of a better group of people to shoulder that burden, to accept that challenge. so let me leave you with just a final thought. the attitude that we must take over the next 31 days, because we know what is at stake, we've seen how close these elections can be -- we have seen in florida, a presidential election decided by a few hanging chads. somehow, al franken is serving a second term. these elections and this one in wisconsin will be decided by a narrow, thin margin. so the attitude must take is that your own efforts, the effort you put in over the next 31 days, your time, your talent, your effort is little the effort -- is literally the effort that will save this country. that's my attitude. that is what your attit

the federal district court in wisconsin looked at the state assembly districts drawn by wisconsin's new republican majority after the 2010 census. republicans have been getting half of the votes but awarded two-thirds of the seats. half of the votes earn them two-thirds of the seats due to gerrymandering. it was not just an accident of geography or the result of the usual partisan strategery, it was unfaired and led them to translate their votes into seats as effectively wisconsin republicans. voters have suffered a personal injury to their equal protection right and declares what they'd done was unconstitutional. the case is on a fast track. it could up-end partisan redistricting around the country. this is a very, very big deal. joining us is robert barnes who has been reporting on this case. thank you so much for being here tonight. >> my pleasure. >> explain to us just the specifics of this ruling. what in the view of the court did the wisconsin legislature do wrong? >> well, there are a couple of ways that you can reapportion people and put them into districts and there's a thing c

he thinks he will do great in wisconsin. your fingers on the tea leaves over there, what do you think? >> i don't know about the tea leaves but he is bounced back if an awfully bad week last week. never thuls, his average in every primary is 35%. he is stuck at a third of the vote. so the question is does kasich grow enough to take enough votes from cruz that cruz comes down to trump's level? i don't think so. i think cruz is going to win this evening, but not enough to change the dynamic of the race. he's not going to come out of this with a big bump. cruz is the escort you hire to go to your high school class reunion when you can't get a date. that's the only reason the republicans are turning to him right now. >> you heard congressman king say he is not going to tell us who he will vote for except that he can't vote for ted cruz. >> there's a lot of that going around. one of the things we may learn after all of these primaries and caucuses is that voters have expressed their will. they don't want any of these candidates t

but hard working men and women of wisconsin stood and campaigned tirelessly to make sure that tonight was a victory for every american. >> bernie sanders after a difficult start says the vict victory is with him. >> in our victory with wisconsin, we have now won seven out of eight of the last caucus and we have won almost all of them with overwhelming, landslide numbers. >>> kimberly halkett has the wraps from wisconsin. >> reporter: the path to the nomination has certainly become more difficult for both the republican and democratic frontrunners, donald trump and hillary clinton. as a result of these victories in the wisconsin primary, ted cruz speaking to his supporters thanked them and said that he is now the one who can unify the republican party. speaking indirectly to the fact that donald trump that certainly gathered an awful lot of negative press which could have contributed to his significant loss here in this state. on the democratic side, bernie sanders also defying what he said were the media and polster expectations showing that he has the grassroots support he needs to w

let's take trump's surprise shows in michigan, wisconsin, and pennsylvania. he won rural in small town michigan with 57% of the vote compared to 53% for mitt romney. that's an uptick. in wisconsin he won rural and small towns with 63%, 10 points higher than romney. in pennsylvania, he won 71% of the vote in rural and small towns. 71%. 12 points better than romney. but hillary clinton did five points worse than obama with near terms. six points worse with latinos, five points were with millennials. they didn't get as excited as they did for obama. clinton's performance in small town america led to the defeats in states we never saw them coming. so what are the democrats doing wrong? what did they do wrong now? john braybender ought to know. gentlemen, i respect both of you. so i want ask john to open up with the question and the answer 20 the question i keep having, why is there a silent majority for donald trump that didn't get picked up by pollsters? what is the disconnect? >> well, i think there were two different groups that were a little bit separate from

it was one of the most violent prisons in the state of wisconsin. i fortunately was never attacked but you can't erase what your eyes see. prisoners in a place of corrections. it is a place of warehousing. i saw on a daily basis men just waking up, eating, going to sleep, then just waving a white flag on their lives. 90% of them would be men going home one day and i sat and i thought about that. at the same time while fighting for my freedom. that fight didn't start until one day while in the prison cell i was served,with a man close to 60 years and he was in prison about 20 years and he was an older white man who was found guilty of two murders and he would tell you look, i committed the crime so i'm here. i know why i'm here. after an incident happened in the prison we were all on lockdown and you are pretty much in your cell and they do an investigation to find out if it is an isolated incident or if there is a full scale riot. while on lock i don't know the first time i had a conversation with somebody i had been in a cell with almost six months

if hillary wins florida, she could lose wisconsin and michigan and still win. >> he knows his stuff and he said the governor, he said that the, hillary people, they have much better ground game. much better organization. trump has none. they can force their voters out early. the trump vote letters come out later. >> that's the theory. >> why do you call florida for trump? >> florida is one of the states we have in a decent amount of polling. we have eight polls in the last seven days. five of them have hillary clinton ahead but only by a point or two. and a couple polls have donald trump up by 4 points. so he is actually leading in the average. we have a decent amount of data. look, it is less than 1% within the margin of error. so that state a coin toss. let's talk about last friday. we know that something happened. the fbi announcement and you were critical of it. it didn't give accurate information. sufficient information for a voter to decide what it means. trump has been able to define it. republicans are all giddy about. this they think this will do something. do you think the gov
