Phil learned to play the piano at the age of 4 from his grandmother. After playing the organ at his church, the road called to him leaving to tour with Joan Baez. Phil was a founding member of The Brothers Figaro (with Bill Bonk!). After opening for John Haitt, Billy Bragg and Jill Souble, the Brothers called it quits but continued playing together backing folk legend, John Prine. Guitarist Nick Rossi has an international reputation as a student and practitioner of traditions and techniques from the classic jazz eras of the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, and beyond. In addition to his accomplishments and dedication to the instrument, he is renowned as a local bandleader as well as a writer-historian. Jeanie and Chuck Poling have been active in the local folk, country, and bluegrass music scenes for over 30 years. Since 2001, they’ve hosted the Bluegrass Country Jam at the Plough and Stars Pub on Clement Street. They also produce Free Range Fridays, a popular performance series at the La Promenade Café where they perform and invite their many musical friends to join them.
