pres. trump: thank you, everybody. we had a very good meeting. we are very much in agreement and are unified and we have been from the beginning, this is something that has to stop. we feel that very strongly. i will be speaking to president xi tonight from china. we have been working closely with china and other countries. that phone call will take place tonight. if you have any questions, go ahead. >> what have you been able to do to reassure south korea? pres. trump: as far as reassurance, they feel as reassurance as they can feel. more with me than they do with other presidents from the past because nobody has really done the job they are supposed to be doing. that is why we are in this horrible situation. it is a bad situation. it is a dangerous situation. it will not continue.

this has been going on for many years. this would have been easier to solve this years ago before they were in the position they are in. we will see what happens. we think lots of good things can happen. and we could have a bad solution. we think lots of good things can happen. >> what is a bad solution? pres. trump: you know the answer to that. >> are you talking about war? is the u.s. going to go to war? pres. trump: i think you know the answer to that. -- is iran agreeing to the deal? pres. trump: they are not abiding by the spirit of the agreement and i would go further. i would say the spirit of the agreement, iran is not abiding by. >> do you have the right generals in place right now for the fight in afghanistan? pres. trump: we are going to make a determination as to afghanistan. i've been looking at it. it is our longest war in history, 17 years, that is

unacceptable. we will make decisions. we are looking at that closely. we talked about it today. we talked about venezuela today. venezuela is a mess. it is very dangerous. and a very sad situation. >> we are a couple of weeks into john kelly's time. what have you done differently to change the way the white house staff is? pres. trump: general kelly is a respected person, respected by everybody. things have come together very nicely. and i have to say, probably, and i've gone through this a lot, very few presidents have done what we have done in six months, whether it is optimism in equity, all of the many things, including the supreme court justice,

regulations being cut massively. we have 48 bills being passed -- i'm talking about legislature, not just executive orders. few have done near what we have done. and we will work now on tax reform cuts. and we will never stop working on health care. and we are working on other things, including infrastructure. we are going to have a big infrastructure bill. nobody has done -- very rarely, i'm not sure anybody has done what we have done in the six months. i think general kelly has brought something special to the office. i call him chief. he is a respected man. he is a four star from the marines. he carries himself like a four star from the marines. and he is my friend. >> a number of republican senators have rushed to the defense of majority leader

mcconnell. what do you make of that? pres. trump: we should have had health care approved. he should have known he had a couple of votes that turned on him. that should have been easy to handle. whether it is through the fact that you take away a committee chairmanship, whatever you have to do. what happened last week is unacceptable. people have been talking about repeal and replace seven years. long before i decided to do what i'm doing. seven years. it did not happen. not only did it not happen, but it was a surprise. it was a horrible surprise. it was very unfair to the republican party and it was unfair to the people of this country. i was not impressed. now, can he do good? i think so. we can do well on taxes. cuts, reform. we are going to do well on infrastructure. things will happen with respect to health care and maybe outside

of congress. there are things i can do as president that will have a huge impact on health care. you watch. >> have you talked to the governor of guam? what did you tell him? pres. trump: i have not. they will be very safe, believe me. if anything happens to guam, there's going to be big trouble in north korea. >> have you ordered any change in our military readiness? pres. trump: i don't talk about that. you know that. i'm not one to say we are attacking mosul in four months. we do it or we do not do it. >> can you tell us why you are returning to washington? pres. trump: i stay out of manhattan. it is so disruptive. i will be going sunday night. i have meetings going to manhattan. it is so disruptive. all of my adult life, during the time i lived in manhattan,

whenever a president came, it was very disruptive. and i am probably more disruptive than any of them. when they have to close fifth avenue, 56th street and other streets -- i am here for that reason. we are doing a tremendous amount of work. we have large numbers of meetings. i'm on the phone a lot. i'm here for that reason. i would love to go to my home in trump tower but it is very disruptive to do. >> why will you be in washington on monday? president trump: we have a conference scheduled, a very important meeting scheduled and we will have a big press conference. >> the secretary has emphasized diplomacy and you have emphasized military action. are you still on the same page? president trump: totally on the same page. secretary, maybe you would like to make a statement? sec. tillerson: it takes a combined message if we are going to get movement with north korea. the president prefers a diplomatic solution. he responded to that moments

ago. what the president is doing is trying to support our efforts by ensuring that north korea knows what the stakes are. >> we have learned about these attacks regarding american diplomats in cuba. who is responsible for the acoustic attacks? is it cuba, russia? sec. tillerson: we have not been able to find who is responsible. we do hold the cuban authority responsible for their security just like other countries have safety and security. we hold the cuban authorities responsible for finding out who is carrying out these health attacks on not just our diplomats, but also in other cases with other diplomats. >> what do you make of this awful situation? they are losing their hearing. sec. tillerson: it is awful. you described it correctly. that is why we are bringing people out. >> what else should be on the table right now for venezuela? president trump: we have many options.

i will not rule out a military option. we have many options for venezuela which is our neighbor. we are all over the world. we have troops all over the world in places that are very far away. venezuela is not very far away and the people are suffering and dying. we have many options for venezuela, including a possible military action if necessary. >> that would be a u.s. led military operation? president trump: we won't talk about it. it is a military operation. military option, certainly something we could do. >> we have heard from north considersaying -- we the u.s. no more than a lump we could beat to a jelly anytime. president trump: let me hear others say it because when you say that, i don't know what you are referring to and who is making the statement.
