we might have to get rid of a few of them. i have already gotten rid of a few of them. but they are good people. i will tell you what happened. the first go around on health care, i said, for seven years, we have been hearing repeal and replace obamacare. for seven years i have been hearing repeal and replace. so i am very much involved in -- involved. they like to say, president trump sat in the oval office. i'm on the phone screaming at people for weeks. they gave me a list of 10 people that were absolute no's. these are 10 republican senators. -- john mccain [booing] pres. trump: john mccain was not on the list. that was a totally unexpected thing, honestly terrible. repeal and replace. because john mccain, if you look at his last campaign, it was all about repeal and replace.
so he decided to do something different. and that is fine. i say, we still have a chance -- we're going to do it eventually. luther, we will do it eventually. we're here tonight for luther strange. i am here for him. it is a friday night. i really do love the people of alabama because you treated me so good. [crowd jeers] pres. trump: you would be turning over your rifles. [indistinct chanting] pres. trump: you have got to speak to jeff sessions about that. [applause] so, here is what
happened with luther. luther, i get this list of 10 names of people that are total no's. and there were good people, a lot of them. by the way, in all fairness, rand paul was on that list. they said, don't waste your time calling him. he voted twice, yes. very good. i haven't given up on him. i think he may come around. wouldn't it be ironic if he took john mccain's place? and they definitely do not like each other. wouldn't that be ironic? that would be very ironic for those of you who know the inner workings of the senate. uther.th lose i have a list of names. one of the names is luther strange. he is a senator from alabama. i said, that is the tallest human being i've ever seen. i am tall and he is tall. he should be on the new york
knicks. i call him big luther. everyone is now calling him big luther. could say, mr. president, you have dinner with my wife, kids, cousins, uncles, i would like to talk to you about it. ok. they come over. pictures all my. ok -- pictures all might. ok. i will get a vote, or i won't. brutal. you know what that is? it is called brutality. i call another one and say, senator, we need your vote. i know you are opposed. you know, i think i can get there but you have to do me a favor. you have to see my brother. they want to have breakfast and lunch with you. [laughter] pres. trump: after you finish with them, how about we go out on a picnic on the white house lawn? after that, maybe we will start talking about it.
oh my god, it was brutal. you have no idea. now, i called luther strange. i said, i have to call this guy and he is a no. i say, senator, i need your help. i said, i have to get your vote on health care. he says, you've got it. [applause] i said, what do you mean i haven't? -- i have it? because of just been hammered by all of these people. he said, i was for you from the beginning. i knew you were going to win the whole thing. i have always been for you and my family has always been for you. and honestly, mr. president, if you want my vote, you have it. i said, do i have to meet you someplace or have dinner with your family? i think his wife, by the way, is
fantastic, but i said, i have to have dinner with you? he said, you don't have to have anything. i have supported you from the beginning and easy not -- and you should not waste any more time talking to me. mr. president, you have my total support. i told my wife, that is the coolest thing that has happened to me in six months. it is true. [applause] pres. trump: and then, time goes by. and he voted. and of course john mccain went thumbs down at 3:00 in the morning. [booing] pres. trump: i know so much i could tell you. it was sad. we had a couple of other senators, that -- but at least we knew where we stood. honestly that was a horrible, horrible thing that happened to the republican party. that was a horrible thing. so time goes by.
and i see luther's in a race. and people are saying he is friendly. whether you like mitch mcconnell or not doesn't matter. they are saying he is friendly with mitch. he doesn't even know mitch mcconnell. he was there a few months. they put that mantle around his neck. i am telling you, he doesn't know mitch mcconnell at all. tough cookie.ugh, he doesn't kowtow to anybody. all of a sudden i see he is down in the race by a lot. i say, that is really unfair. they were giving him a bum rap because he happened to be in the senate. they were giving him a bum rap. i remember when he called -- the called, they are fine, you don't remember them.
the dinners, you don't remember any of it. you remember one sentence. sir, don't even waste your time talking to me. you have my vote. i said, that is the coolest thing. i remembered it and i called him. i checked and and he was down because he was saddled with stuff. he was down quite a bit. i said, i am going to endorse you. he did not believe it. he said, you wouldn't do that? -- you would do that? i said, i shouldn't. the last thing i want to do is be involved in a primary. i could be sitting home right now getting to watch some of the games and getting ready. but seriously, the last thing i wanted to do -- i will never forget the way he did that. it was really cool. i called him and said, how are you doing? he said, i am down. i said, you will come back and
kick everyone's ass and do great. [applause] pres. trump: because he got saddled with things he should not. he started off in third or fourth. third, second, and now it is almost pretty even, right? i called him up a week ago, and i said, you know i think you are , down by a few points but i am going to come to alabama and make a speech for you on friday. [applause] pres. trump: such a true story. and as soon as we announce, you -- you know arena the media, the fake news, i call it. the fakepres. trump: news. they won't show this. they will say, donald trump spoke before a small crowd in
alabama last night. it was a small crowd. very unenthusiastic. it was a terrible evening. now these are among these are the most dishonest people. i really mean it. these are among the most dishonest. look at the crowd, i would love to have them show the crowd but they do not show the crowd. they show me. the whole night i go home and say, milania -- by the way, she has become very popular, hasn't she? [applause] pres. trump: she has become very popular. i mean, she respects the white house. we love the white house. they actually said about me that i called the white house a dump. i think the white house is one of the most beautiful buildings it ever seen, i spoke with -- i spoke with reverence. they said that and they wouldn't
retract it. my wife respects the white house greatly. once she leaves the plane, she is just appropriately for the -- she is dressed appropriately for the white house. she respects the white house. she is wearing high heels, like many of you would do. they went after her but she didn't know. when she got out of the plane in texas, she was wearing sneakers, which she had with her. [applause] pres. trump: and they know it was dishonest, but that is the way it is. they said she wore high heels -- she would go into the floods with high heels. but she has become very popular. but i have to say this,, so loser did that for me. luther did that for me. i remember luther. we have to the loyal in life. [applause] pres. trump: we have to be loyal.
i will be honest, i might have made a mistake. here is the story. if luther doesn't win, they will not say we picked up 25 points in a short time, they will say donald trump, the president of the united states, was unable to pull his candidate across the line. it is a terrible, terrible moment for trump. this is total embarrassment. i mean, these are bad people. by the way, both good men. both good men. lutherw what, and i told , i have to say this, his opponent wins, i will be here campaigning like hell for him. [applause] pres. trump: but i have
to say this. and you understand this and just look at the polls. luther will definitely win. [applause] pres. trump: you know what i'm saying. roy has a very good chance of
not winning in the general election. is all about the general --
don't forget, we do not stop here. you have an election coming up. the day this is over. this is over on tuesday, wednesday morning the new race begins. you have to be a democrat. luther will win easily, and roy will have a hard time winning. but i will be backing him if he wins. i will be backing him. ok? i tell you that your -- i tell you that. [applause] pres. trump: just like i backed huntsville. if you look at huntsville, billions and billions of dollars and to the army missile defense. [applause] pres. trump: how important -- by the way, by the way, how important are those words when you hear missile defense? thank you very much, huntsville.
thank you. [applause] when you hear those two words, last week we just approved the $700 billion budget, much higher than originally anticipated. if the other candidate had won against me, that would have gone way down. it was going way down. you do not know what we're doing. we are rebuilding the military, at a level to which has never been before. we are rebuilding. [applause] pres. trump: but that would have gone way, way down. and then you look at, as an example, new fbi facility being built. great. great. you look at nasa. how about nasa? billions of dollars. richard shelby, by the way, has been a big help with this, i have to tell you. a big help. [applause]
pres. trump: he has been a big help. but i will say this. we are spending a tremendous amount of money in alabama. and you're doing great. as long as i am president, you were going to have so much money spent here. and you know what, a lot of other states also. we are bringing back jobs, bringing back companies. inpanies are not building other areas. in some cases, they have already started a plant and they are not. there are coming back. i renegotiating nafta, one of am the worst trade deals ever made. one of the worst trade deals ever made. [applause] pres. trump: we stopped other trade deals. we are doing a job -- i tell you what. we have jobs pouring back into the country like we have never seen. the lowest unemployment in almost 17 years. the most number of jobs. the most number of jobs in the history of our country.
now, with all of that being said, we have a lot of people that want to work. we have a lot of people that have given up on finding jobs. those people will be taken care of. that is one of the reasons we as a group -- that is why we won. one of the reasons. i think we won because of the military, the vets, the evangelicals. take a look at that. [cheers and applause] pres. trump: but i had to tell that story about luther. because you go back and tell it -- i thought it was really cool. i said i will be there and then i saw some things i didn't like. he was down a little bit. i said luther, you have got what it takes. you have really got it and let us go. that was two months ago. and you've got yourself and even race. if you guys go out and vote, if he gets out the vote, he will
win. you will have a great senator. [cheers and applause] pres. trump: you will have a great senator. he will not only be great, he will be the tallest senator in the history of the united states. [laughter] pres. trump: ok. that is not so bad, right? shelby is tall too. because he be great is tough on crime, tough on borders -- [applause] pres. trump: don't worry don't , even think about it. do you know who i have here tonight? general john kelly, who headed up homeland security, and what the job he did on the borders. where is general? where is he? general, come up here really quick! come up here! four-star, come, come, come, come, come. this guy. what a great man this is. no games, you know?
do you know the expression? no games being played. four-star marine. very few. four-star general. [applause] pres. trump: he just wants to work. he has done a great job. four-star marine. that is good. but what he did on the borders -- and this is without the walls, by the way, the wall is happening, folks. believe me. the wall is happening. in fact, you probably saw -- you know, we have a wall up there now and we are renovating its already. is being made pristine perfect, , good as new. we might go a little higher than that. we are building samples.
it has to be a see-through wall. you might not have known that. i didn't know it except for -- until about a year ago. if you cannot have vision through it, you do not know who is on the other side. literally i was given an example -- is going to stop drugs and a lot of other things because the drug epidemic is out of control in this country and we are going to stop it. [applause] pres. trump: but they would literally -- they would build a concrete wall, and that is what i do best. but we have done well at politics, too. we've only done it for two years. but what i do best is built. you have a concrete wall and mexico, a wonderful place. you
have mexico and the united states. but you can't say anything. so now they take drugs, literally, and they throw it over the wall.
they have catapults feared they throw it over the wall and it hits somebody on the head. you don't even know they are there. believe it or not, this is the kind of stuff that
happens. you need to have a great wall that has to be see-through. we are looking at samples, we have four samples that are either built. we are looking at different samples of see through walls. i think to be honest with you, a see-through wall would look better. you don't have that whatever it might be. we are looking at four different samples built by four different companies. four different concepts. they are just about completed. i'm going to look at them personally, we will pick the right one. we are renovating the existing wall and we will have as much as we need. you don't need all the way. you have a lot of natural barriers, etc. some of that are somebody said, are you going to
build the wall in the middle of the river? are you going to build on the mountain? the mountain is the wall. we will build the wall. it is coming along great. we will have the final choices done and the renovations will be done, i would say, within the next six or seven months. we're spending a tremendous amount of money and we will have a wall. i wanted to let you know where we are. [applause] we are very, very happy about that. every once in a while you here, he does not really want to build the wall. i say excuse me. that is the great thing about twitter. [laughter] pres. trump: when the press is dishonest, most of the time, and when i say i do not want to build the wall, i can tweet, that was a false story. boom, boom, boom. [cheers and applause] pres. trump: no. it is really not a question of
wall, or really -- we really have to do a wall in order to stop the drug in particular. we have been dealing with isis -- with ice and the border patrol. these people know better than the architects and consultants. this country used to go out and get consultants and spend a fortune on consultant to say what to do and how to build it. they did not have a clue. they got out of the harvard school of something and they would write about a wall. let me just tell you, the best guys who are telling you what to do are the border patrol. the best guys are ice. these are the guys that know. do you know what it costs? nothing. we get it free and they are happy to do it. i was with him two weeks ago. they are happy to do it. it is really great. this is going to be a very important element to making america great again. like your hat. [cheers and applause]
when it comes to reform in washington and taking on bureaucracy, i am telling you, because i have seen him, he , luther is hell your man. luther wants to end business as usual, stop the insider dealing, and luther strange is determined to drain the swamp. [cheers and applause] pres. trump: luther has been fighting hard for the people of alabama and the united states since his first job in office. i have to tell you something. he has not been there very long. again, he does not know those people. he hasn't met them and he doesn't know them. he does not know those people. luther has worked so hard. i know the ones that work hard and i know the ones who don't work hard. i was talking about it with richard before. don't worry, richard, i will not
give away any of your secrets. but we were talking about it. he is a hard worker, richard. i want to say that feared -- i want to say that. he has been working hard for 34 years. [applause] pres. trump: but we were talking about who are the smart ones, the hard-working ones. we talked about the less smart ones too. i learned a lot. that is a lot of knowledge. but luther shares our convictions and our vision, and maybe most importantly, he shares our agenda and remember, he is going to win the race. he is going to win the race. [applause] pres. trump: and i am not talking here. i am talking against the democrats, which starts very quickly, and this is why it each and every one of you to get a friend, get a family member, get the whole family and bring them out to vote for big luther strange.
you got a vote for him. [applause] pres. trump: big luther. luther and i and everyone in this arena tonight are unified by the same great american values. we are proud of our country. we respect our flag. [cheers
and applause] pres. trump: wouldn't you love to see one of these nfl owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say get that son of a bitch off the field? out, he is fired. ! red [cheers and applause] [chanting "u.s.a."]
pres. trump: you know, some owners are going to do that. he will say, that guy who disrespect our flag, he is fired. that owner, they don't know yet. they are friends of mine, many of them. they will be the most popular person for a week. they will be the most popular person in the country because that is a total disrespect of our heritage. that is a total disrespect of everything we stand for, ok? everything that we stand for. and i know we have freedoms and we have freedom of choice and many, many different freedoms. but you know what? it is still totally disrespectful. when the nfl ratings are down
massively, massively, the nfl ratings are down massively. the number one reason happens to be they like watching what is happening. they like what's happening. if they hit too hard, 15 yards, throw them out of the game. they had that last week. i watched for a couple of beautiful tackle. boom. 15 yards. they are ruining the game, right? there are ruining the game. that is what they want to do. they want to hit. but you know what is hurting the game more than that? but people like yourselves turn on television and you see those people taking the knee
are playing our great national anthem. [crowd booing] the only thing you could be better is if you see it, leave the stadium. i guarantee it, things will stop. just pick up and leave. it is not the same game anymore. one of the things we have done -- when i say we, it is us together -- we protect religious liberty. [cheers and applause] because we know that faith and the family, not government and bureaucracy, are the true centers of american life. in america, we do not worship government, we worship god. [cheers and applause] right? we cherish our magnificent
constitution, and we believe judges must interpret the constitution as written, and that includes defending as a just said our great second amendment. we support the rule of law and we stand strong with the incredible men and women of law enforcement. we protect our citizens, uphold our traditions, and we will always defend our borders. [cheers and applause] these are alabama values. i understand the people of alabama. i feel like i'm from alabama, frankly. [cheers and applause]
isn't is a little weird when a guy who lives on fifth avenue in the most beautiful apartment you have ever seen comes to alabama and alabama love that guy? [cheers and applause] crazy! but i do, i understand your values and i love your values. those are the values i believe in. those are the values that made this country. those are the values that made this country great. those of the values. i understand those values. but as you know, these values have been under attack for many years in washington, and that is why we need a person like luther strange. we need him. you have to get out and vote.
[cheers and applause] you know, i think if everyone in this room goes out to vote, luther, you win easily. get out and about. you have got to get out and vote. luther is not in washington to serve the special interest like a lot of people. even the way he handled that thing with me, he can ask the you have to this and that. what did he do? he got better. if he was difficult -- but he never went with -- he never went quid pro quo. he just treated me great. and i called him. i said you want me to help you. he couldn't believe it. he said why. i said you gave me the coolest answer in a long time. that is why i am here. he didn't ask me.
the only mistake he made -- i shouldn't say this -- he said, sir, we have a venue that holds 1000 people. i said luther, that is no good, a thousand people. we could do much better than that. and then we came to this place and we are jampacked. there are thousands of people outside who cannot get in. they do not have your real estate ability. yes, thousands. they may be listening because we put some big speakers out there. i hope they are going to vote for luther. they may not be too happy, but i think they will. luther came to washington to serve you and represent you. i can tell you when big luther -- we call him that -- people call you big luther before you met trump? i brand people. a lot of them are friends of mine. so nobody ever called you big luther?
i think it is a great name. he is seven feet tall. i can never call him little luther. i just saw him and was like he is big luther, and that is all. when he walks in, everybody knows that alabama has arrived. [cheers and applause] luther was a very advanced eagle scout who has not spent his lifetime in politics. he only entered public life in recent years, and he has been in washington for even less time than me. he does not know all these people who he is supposed to know. he has his own mind, he has the mind you want. in his short time in public office, luther has proved he is not beholden to anyone and not afraid to take on anyone and i
have seen it. as your attorney general, he won over 25 public corruption convictions. [cheers and applause] now, he has brought that same political courage to washington and i have to tell you, friends of mine have told me very strongly that if luther wasn't appointed to office for the short-term, and he just said he was going to run when you have to run, which is now, he would be leading every poll by 50 points. he would be killing everybody . the fact that he got appointed hurt him. if luther didn't take appointments, if he just ran, there wouldn't even be a contest. no one would come close to him. it is one of those things.
i can tell you personally, because i have been dealing with lucky, and this country is very lucky -- that he did take that appointment. he has done a hell of a job. [cheers and applause] and that is what we need in washington. people who have the courage to stand strong for our values, our families, our nations. people who have the courage to challenge a failed system. with obamacare, i have been listening for seven years as many of these people kept saying repeal and replace. they didn't care. nobody cared. they did not have the senate. it didn't matter. it didn't take much courage. we are getting all of these great votes. i think they voted 61 times 61 times to repeal and replace! they finally get a president who
will sign the legislation, and they don't have the guts to vote for it. [crowd booing] they don't have the guts to vote for it. i was told, congratulations, you won. you know why? because the electoral college is a very special thing. i decided intelligently to campaign in the state but you have to win for the electoral college that you need. it is very simple. i took a pass on a lot of states. i have never really been in favor of it but now i appreciate it. to me, winning the popular vote is easier because you go to new york, california, this. the beauty with the electoral college is i went to maine, i
went to smaller states. it brings the whole country into play. it brings states into play that would never be thought of. but i focused heavily on pennsylvania and north carolina and i focused very heavily here, but i actually made one speech here and i said, do you mind if i don't come back for a while because we have a 38 point lead and i would much rather spend my time in florida and pennsylvania and north carolina and other places. [cheers and applause] so alabama, you were great. we won by so much. so the electoral college is actually something i have come to respect. it is sort of like if you are a 100 yard -- guy or if you are a long-distance runner, you'd train differently. if hillary runs again in four years, which i hope she does, we
will teach her to spend more time in michigan. we will teach her to go to wisconsin. we will teach her to spend a little more capability in pennsylvania, north carolina, and florida, which she lost and she spent a tremendous amount of money. you hear so much about this. remember this, if you are going for the electoral college, it is a much different race. you do not spend time in california and new york, you spend your time in iowa and ohio. remember, you cannot win unless you win ohio. we won ohio by a lot because i spent a lot of time on it. [cheers and applause] but i would rather have the popular vote counts because for me, it would be easier than winning the electoral college,
which they said a republican could not win, if you remember. remember they said, there is no way to 270 for trump. that is why i went to maine four times. because i needed one. there is no way they said. well i ended up with 306. i guess they were right. luther, they were right. they were 100% right. "there is no way to 270." but there is a way to 306. we won by a lot. when you hear this nonsense. are a golfer and you have matchplay or stroke play, you train differently. they have to learn their lesson. they have to campaign in areas that really matter. we had such a great victory.
it was something that was awe-inspiring and something that i think everybody in this room will never, ever forget. i appreciate the fact that the people of alabama were with me right from the first day and they said to me, do not come back. go to those other states but you have to win in i appreciate it. [cheers and applause] by the way, folks, in case you are curious, no. russia did not help me. ok? i call it the russian hoax. one of the great hoaxes. that is the thing democrats did best. they lost the election and didn't know what happened. they needed an excuse so they said russia. and then they said, wait a minute. russia. and trump -- honestly, that is the thing they did best.
they get a rotten job of running. to convince people about this hoax, that is one thing they did best. no, russia did not help me. that i can tell you, ok? are there any russians in the audience? i don't see too many russians. i did not see too many russians in pennsylvania. we need people in this country who have the courage to say what they mean, to do what they say, and never, ever backed down. as your attorney general, luther helped lead the fight in court against the obama administration's big power grabs. that includes challenging the epa clean power plan. did you see what i did to that? boom. gone. look at that guy. he knows. [cheers and applause] gone.
and i did that one without luther, but he defended it and got rid of a lot of things. also, i defended and luther has defended so vigorously religious liberty from obamacare and the fighting of obama's and the administrations dangerous really almost you could say inhumane plan on refugees. inhumane. when i opened my election, i talked about the viciousness of what was happening. a lot of people thought it was tough. it turned out to be understated, not overstated. it was a big part of our success. since the date of the luther arrived in the united states senate, luther has always been for us. he has always been for us. he is not a friend of mitch
mcconnell. he does not know mitch mcconnell until just recently. and i do not say that badly about mitch at all. i am not saying that badly. i am just telling you he doesn't know. he just got there. i said, how well do you know him? he said he just met him because he just got there. he just came out against -- and he was against it before -- but he just came out against that totally ridiculous rule, the filibuster rule. it is ridiculous. we have 52 senators and on a lot of legislation you need 60 votes. that means we need a democrat. and they get upset with me when i get to see desk when i go to see nancy pelosi was very nice. they get upset. why did you see them? because this world is crazy. we have 260 bills.
many of those -- not all of them, because they can use reconciliation. that is a trick. many of those bills will never get past. most of them will not because you cannot get 60 votes. you cannot. it means that eight democrats control the senate. i think will pick up seats in 2018. i will work very hard. i think we will pick up democratic seats. i believe that. we will pick up democratic seats, but they have to get rid of the filibuster rule. basically, we can't go to 60. [cheers and applause] luther was with us on withdrawing the united states from the deeply unfair job killing paris climate accord, ok?
[cheers and applause] you know, it sounds so nice, but it was a killer. it was a killer for our country. it was very unfair. as an example, we are with china -- who i love right now this week. don't forget, that was a big thing. twice. russia and china both came along. that was a great thing. maybe, more importantly, when china did this banking thing, that is so big, let us see what happens. it has never been done and i think you will see good things. i think china wants to get this
problem over with. they do not need this problem. they're very smart and they are good people in the president is a really good man and he was china. -- he loves china. it is good for china getting rid of that menace. believe me. [cheers and applause] luther is with us on cracking down on dangerous sanctuary cities that release criminal aliens into our cities. what is that about? by the way, jeff sessions is working very hard on that. really hard. really hard. [cheers and applause] and effectively. very effectively. luther is with us on cutting taxes and bringing jobs back to america. he is with us on giving the tools unlimited.
he wants them to fund the fight so we can win without question. that is where we are going. $700 billion. [cheers and applause] he not only has my endorsements, remember this, he also has the endorsement of my great friend and vice president mike pence. [cheers and applause] he has the endorsement of the national rifle association, the nra. that is a biggie. that is a big one. luther, that is big. he has got the endorsement of the national right to life and the alabama farmers. [cheers and applause] that was a big endorsement. that nra endorsement, i am telling you, that is a powerful
endorsements. with luther strange, you don't just send a message to washington, you send a fighter to change washington. since election day on november 8, we already achieved wins for the american people. the stock market reached its highest point in history. [cheers and applause] they hate to hear that. oh. it went up like 22% since november. 22% since election day. i think it is even more than that. think of it, the highest point. unemployment is at the lowest level it has been for 16 years. close to 17. [cheers and applause] most importantly for me, but i have to say it again, companies
are flowing back into our country. they want to be here. i was with one of the great gentleman that i became friendly with. a leader of a major country, there are only a lot of people watching on television and look at all those red light. aye. it is always fun to see a red light. and i say it is fake news. and you see that light go on so fast. by the way, do you think they show the room? do you think they show the nooks and crannies? i don't think so. if there is an empty seat, they will show that empty seat. two people got up to go to the
bathroom and they are coming back. they show the empty seats every single time. fake news. proud.ally tremendous gains. people that run companies that
truly hate me, they now let me. -- they now love me. that means jobs, that means everybody. i am serious. people that truly dislike the president, they're coming up and hugging and kissing me. i am not doing it for them i'm doing it for the country. i told you many times, and this is not even a choice, we are
renegotiating nafta. we will get a fair deal or we will terminate nafta. it is one of the worst deals ever negotiated. one of the worst deals ever negotiated. every day i am keeping my promise. we had done so much. they don't like to say it. we have passed over 50 pieces of legislation. that means getting approved by the house and the senate. that is not including all the executive orders. that is not including the fact that we have reduced unnecessary -- to aons to up point point that this country hasn't seen in years. we are doing one of the best jobs at our veterans.
we are doing one of our best jobs with our veterans. we published online wait times at every va facility, opens the white house and the a hotline, , extendedtline veterans' choice. these are the greatest people. the bravest, most wonderful people. in some cases, they get older and things happen. they are waiting on line for seven days, nine days. in some cases they die. in some cases they can have a simple procedure. they can have a simple prescription and it takes 11 or 12 days to get off-line to see the doctor. by the time they get to the doctor, they are terminal.
i said, without knowing much, but having a lot of common sense, i said that doesn't make sense. if they're waiting in line, can you imagine? we have a lot of people were very successful people here. can you imagine going to your doctor and having to wait for 11 days? if i have to wait for two seconds, i go crazy. hopefully we will not have to see too many doctors. but they wait for days and days and they go to a doctor in the area now. we pay the bill and it is the least expensive thing we can do. we save everybody's life and everybody is happy. everybody is happy. i have only been doing this for a little while. when i first heard of the problem, that is what i said. why are they not just going to see a doctor? we have to negotiate with the
doctors very carefully. i know they charge a lot of money. but now the people are happy. we are doing so many things. we have v.a. worker accountability. for 40 years they have been trying to get it passed. they couldn't. i will not blame the unions and i will not blame civil-service. that was the problem. you have the unions. for 40 years, they cannot get passed. you would have people working in the v.a., who were sadists, who would abuse our great veterans. by the way, 20 years before, they would have had their ass kicked by the same person they were abusing. they would have been in trouble. they would have been in trouble. 25 years earlier, they wouldn't be doing it area that is the way it is.
they are sadists, or they are doing a bad job. you could not fire them. i passed the va accountability act. we have a great man running the va. he has done more in eight months than they have done at the va for years. it is really getting good over there. i am very proud of him because i made that promise. in the best tradition of america's greatest leaders, we're standing up for american workers and defending american jobs and american industry. [cheers and applause] we're building our future with american hands, american labor, american iron, aluminum, and steel. we will buy american and higher hire american. in my first month, i withdrew
the united states from the job killing it would have been a disaster, the transpacific partnership. great ripoff. you want to see jobs leave the country? sign that. they were going to sign that as fast as they could. that was a disaster for this country. i ended the obama administration's war on coal, and we're putting our coal miners back to work producing beautiful, clean coal. [cheers and applause] here is one that nobody has the guts to do and i did it in my first few days in office. i authorized the construction of the keystone pipeline and the dakota access pipeline. over 50,000 jobs.
50,000 beautiful construction jobs. environmentally better, much better. we have increased our military and defense budget to the highest level it has been probably ever. [cheers and applause] it is going to be over $700 billion. we will rebuild it. we are ordering new fighters and jets. you know what has been happening. the jets are so old that the father flew it and the son goes into the air force and flies the same plane. we have committed to expanding and improving a state-of-the-art missile defense system. thank you very much, huntsville, alabama. thank you very much. [cheers and applause]
it is amazing the way all of a sudden missile-defense system sounds so good. by the way, these systems, i watched them and i see what is being developed. they have taken out rockets that are going so fast. the percentage of success is so high, it is so brilliant what we can do, so that we can do what we have to do to have a safe country. i want to thank you, huntsville, because you are a big part of it. [cheers and applause] we have just brought back the national space council to restore america's legacy of leadership in space.
the council will be chaired by vice president pence, who is visiting your nasa facility in huntsville on monday to get you out to vote. get you out to vote. we're making our communities safe again by going after violent criminals and putting dangerous offenders behind bars. they are going in fast. [cheers and applause] we have the backs of our police officers, our ice officers, and our border control officers. we have their backs 100% just like they take care of us. [cheers and applause] one by one, we are finding -- and i mean in large numbers, and our guys are much tougher than their guys -- we're finding the drug dealers and criminals who prey on our people.
we are throwing them out of our will not letwe them back in. they do not come back in anymore . we also understand immigration security is a national -- that is really a national treasure, but it is a national security. we need national security for safety. we are going to keep radical islamic terrorists out of our country. sorry, sorry. [cheers and applause] call up some of the other countries in the world and say how are you doing, folks. not so good. we are creating an immigration system that puts american workers and american families first. we are moving quickly to pass a massive tax cut and simplification for the middle class.
we want new tax returns, we want simplification, we want reform, we want massive tax cuts. that is what we're doing for business. that is what we are doing for the middle class. [cheers and applause] if we want to restore american prosperity, we need tax reform that is progrowth, pro-jobs, pro-worker, profamily, and pro-america. [cheers and applause] the united states is currently currently have the highest business tax rates anywhere in the world. 60% higher than other developed countries. this is a massive economic disadvantage for america, costing us millions and millions of jobs and trillions of dollars. under our plan that you are going to see next week, enjoy, you're going to love it.
it will be the biggest tax cut -- i have to get approved by richard and luther, but i have a feeling you'll be ok. luther, do you promise? because if you don't vote for it i am leaving right now. i'm taking away the endorsements. [laughter] under luther and richard, we will have one of the lowest tax rates in the developed world, bringing back our jobs and companies to our shores. with luther's help we are going to reform our tax code to make american business competitive again so that american workers and american companies can win again. we are going to bring back to our country three, four, maybe five -- nobody even knows what the number is -- but many trillions of dollars currently
parked overseas and it will come back to the good old usa. right now it is impossible to bring it back. we are committed to protecting small businesses and family farmers by ending the death tax on estates. you lose your farm, you lose your business, you can't pay the tax, we're getting rid of this. in addition to passing historic reforms, luther and are totally dedicated to repealing and replacing obamacare. is a little tougher without mccain's vote. we have some time. we will go back. it is like a boxer. get knocked down, get up and the bad ones stay in the stool, and say we quit. the great ones get up, and end up winning.
we might have to go back again and again. we may make it this time. the most we will be is one or two votes short. you cannot quit if you are one or two votes short. you cannot do it. those people will not be liked by the communities they come from. in most cases, and i think almost all of the cases, they got elected on the basis of repealing and replacing and they are not doing a service to the people they represent. [cheers and applause] luther strange fought against obamacare as attorney general of alabama, and he fought it well. he's fighting obamacare in the senate and he is going to keep fighting because we are going to win. it is going to be gone and we will have great health care in this country. [cheers and applause] your premiums are surging. your deductibles are through the
roof. alabama's is up, but there are states up 150%. alaska is up more than 200% and i am having a hard time getting a certain votes, but she is a good person and i think she will come through. alaska is up over 200%. that means obamacare is no good. we should not have a hard time getting her votes and i think she will come through. i hope so. insurers are quitting, doctors are quitting, choices are disappearing, congress must do its job by ending the obamacare nightmare. so, to deliver for american families, we are also working to pass the raise act, legislation
that would end chain migration and switch our countries to a merit-based immigration system. merit, merit, merit. people that would help our country. people that would help our country. we have tom cotton, and david perdue, two great senators who are working on it. this will keep new immigrants from going on welfare for five years -- this would keep new immigrants from going on will -- welfare for five years. wouldn't that be nice? it would require them to support their families financially. it is time to create an immigration system that serves the interests of the united states of america. we also want an infrastructure bill that generates $1 trillion of investments for rebuilding our country with american hands. we want to lift americans from
welfare to work, from dependence to independence, and from poverty to prosperity. [cheers and applause] we want every american child to grow up learning the dignity of work, the pride of a paycheck, and the satisfaction of a job well done. [cheers and applause] we want our citizens to go to work every morning and a job they love, supporting their families, and lifting up. we can only bring prosperity back to our country and hope to our struggling communities if we can take our america first agenda. if we can make america great again agenda back to washington and drive it to victory. we can only achieve those historic legislative wins -- and
we have had a lot of them in a short period of time -- only if we have patriots in congress willing to stand up or what we believe, and that i can do it. we can only win those fights and drain the swamp if we have smart, tough, and tenacious leaders who know who they represent and they know how to deliver. luther strange is our man. he is our man. you have to get out and vote. [cheers and applause] i mean, again, i am taking a big risk because if luther doesn't make it, they're going to go after me. the very dishonest people are going to say trump, trump, trump. but we have done great together and we have done great over the last two months right here. this is our moment. this is your moment.
this is a big day because you have a lot of people banking on somebody else's victory and thinking that will become democrats in the state of alabama. i don't think that is a good thing. [crowd booing] that is not a good thing. if this man wins, that race is over. if somebody else wins, that will be a tough race. every day we must fight for the change you have been waiting for your entire life. a government that serves you, protection family, and uphold your laws. always puts the needs of our citizens first. [cheers and applause] we are americans, and the future belongs to us. the future belongs to all of you, but we have got to go out and take it. we have got to go out and earn it.
we have got to go out and vote. if we do not vote, it is not going to happen. on tuesday, vote for your country, vote for your family. vote for your victory. vote for luther strange. he is a phenomenal person. [cheers and applause] together with the great people of alabama and your giant in the senate, we will make america strong again. we will make america wealthy again. we will make america proud again. we will make america safe again. and, we will make america great again! thank you, alabama. i love you. i love you, alabama. [cheers and applause]
