whenever i spoke, this was one of the most important things. it was something i got the biggest hand for. people want to take care of our events. -- our vets. our nation was shocked by .a. system the v sh there s nothinth abou it. not take care of the bad people. with us are many brave veterans who endured that in justice. -- injustice. they served their country with honor, only to be denied the medical treatment they needed. no one should suffer what you suffered. you suffered greatly. no one should have to fight for their lives when they come back when they come to their home.
andommend your strength courage in the face of hardship. we pledge to act in your name and in the name of every other veteran who has been so wrongly that it -- wronged. to those who serve our nation, risk life and limb, you must never be denied care, access, or treatment that you need. we are here today and why we are signing this most important the bill. -- most important bill. they have been working on for years and years. and it wouldn't hpen. accountability is the other one. as a candidate for president, i promised to make reform in the reforming the -- v.a. one of my highest priorities. in the first day of my administration, that is what we have done.
last year, i signed the historic v.a. accountability legislation. meaning you now can get rid of people who do not treat our veterans right and rob us or treat us or are not great to our great vets. for 40 been years, they have been trying to pass this, you know that. they could not. it was hard. you have civil service, you have unions. of course they would never do anything to stop anything. they had a very great deal of power. ercame alo becau they knew it was right. we passed something that has not in that recognized, and yet i would put it almost in the class with choice. almost in the class with choice. e ountility. v.a. accountability.
now if people do not do a great tnnotot events anymore. --ur v the more. are gone.more. they it just seems to be common sense. line forre waiting for nine days, why are they going outside to see a doctor and take we pay themselves and the bill? it is less expensive, it works out better, it is immediate care. it is what we are doing. we are allowing our veterans to get access to the stedical care available, whether it is at the v.a. or a private provider. i will keep that promise i have been making ever since the first day of my campaign. seems like a long time ago. i'm going to sign legislation
