President Trump Meets with Ukrainian President CSPAN September 25, 2019 2:18pm-2:38pm EDT
they got nothing else and they are doing the kind of things they did yesterday. 160-some democrats are wanting to move forward about something they haven't even read or seen. i don't know we have ever seen that in the history of the congress. with that i'll yield to our leader who is doing a great job leading our team, that's chairman mccarthy. mr. scalise: yesterday was a low point in nancy pelosi's speakership. when you see a speaker of the house come forward and accuse a president of the united states of breaking the law to the level that it should meet the definition in the constitution of high crimes and misdemeanor without even being able to name the crime, without having even read the report that she's basing this wild and irresponsible accusation on is the height of irresponsibility for speaker of the house to do that.
unfortunately, we have seen this drumbeat towards impeachment from her conference since the day donald trump got elected. they made it clear first with the resist movement they didn't want to acknowledge he was elected. >> house gavels in at 2:30 eastern. we breakway here and take you to the united nations. president trump meeting with the ukrainian president. president trump: thank you very much, everybody. we are with the president of ukraine. he's made me more famous that i have made him. i will say he's got a great reputation. he's very, very strongly looking into all sorts of corruption and some of the problems they have had over the years. i think it's one of the primary reasons he got elected. his reputation absolutely
sterling. it's an honor to be with you. we spoke a couple of times as you probably remember. they'd like to hear every single word. we hear from every single word. then they'll say what about today? i think the press would like to say in the meetings we have lots of witnesses if you'd like to have them. but the country of -- our country is doing phenomenonly well. we have the best economy we ever had. we have the best employment numbers that we ever had. we have now almost 160 million people working which is more than we ever had. we are doing very well in i ever respect. i have a feeling that your country's going to do fantastically well. whatever we can do. president zelensky: thank you very much, mr. president. thank you very much. it's a pleasure to me to be here . it's better to be on tv than back home. mr. president, thank you very much. i'm not the first time in new
york. but i know that you never been in ukraine. and your predecessor also, how you say it in english, didn't find time. so can you give me your word you will come to our great country. president trump: i'm going to try. i know a lot of people -- i will say this. i know a lot of people from ukraine. they are great people. i own something called the miss universe pageant years ago, and sold it to i.m.g.. when i ran for president i thought maybe it wouldn't be the greatest thing to own miss universe. but it's a great thing. we had a winner from ukraine. we have really had -- we got to know the country very well in a lot of different ways. it's a country i think with tremendous potential. president zelensky: i know it because i am from this country. and i want to thank you for invitation to washington.
you invited me. but i think i'm sorry, but i think you forgot to tell me the date. but i think -- president trump: we'll tell you the date. president zelensky: i want to thank you, to thank you especially, mr. president, to u.s.a., your government, like i said i know many people, many faces, second family after my ukraine family, we know each other. thank you for your support. especially now when we have two really wars in ukraine. the first one is with corruption. we'll fight -- we'll be winner in this fight i'm sure. and the priority, my priority to stop the war and to get back our territories, crimean and others.
thank you for your support in these case. thank you very much. president trump: thank you very much, mr. president. if you remember you lost crimea during a different administration. not during the trump administration. president zelensky: you have a chance to help us. president trump: that was during the obama administration you lost crimea. i didn't think it was something you should have. that was done a long time ago. i this is it was handled poorly. it's one of the things. one of the elements that we discussed is the united states helps ukraine, but i think that other countries should help ukraine much more than they are doing. germany, france, the european union nations they really should help you a lot more. i think maybe together we'll work on that. they have to feel a little bit guilty about it because they don't do what they should be doing. you're very important for the european union. you're very important strategicically. very important. i think they should spend a lot more in helping ukraine. and they know that also.
they actually tell me that. but they don't seem to produce. so i'm sure you'll talk to them and i'll certainly be talking to them. president zelensky: thank you very much, mr. president. you know now we need -- i want new ll you that now hold a country, but we don't need help. we need support. real support. we thank everybody. all the european countries. we also want to have more. ut -- and defense. only together america and e.u., only together we can stop the war. we already, we just want to tell that we are -- remember that we are the biggest country in europe, but we want to be the richest one.
president trump: you have great people in ukraine. and you have very talented people in terms of manufacturing. in terms of some of the things they do. and we'll be doing, we are doing trading already, but we should be doing a lot more trading with ukraine. you have very talented people. they make great things. they are at the top of the line. that's very important. the other thing is i have heard you actually have over the last fairly short period of time you really made progress with russia. i hear a lot of progress has been made. just keep it going. t would be nice to end it all, disaster. president zelensky: first of all, i want to tell you before -- i ations with russia want world to know that now we have new team. the new parliament. the new government. w we -- about 74 laws, new
laws, which help for our new reforms. land rye form. it we reload for general security. as we came wed -- launched the anti-corruption court. it begin to work on the 5 of the of september. it was after five days we had the new government. so we already, we want to show that we just come. -- just let's do business cases. e have many cases already.
president trump: stop corruption in ukraine. that will really make you great. that will make you great personally, and it will also be so tremendous for your nation in terms of what you want to do and where you want to take it. thank you very much. president zelensky: thank you very much. reporter: investigate joe biden? president zelensky: i think you read everything. so i think you read text. i'm sorry but i don't want to be electionso democratic of u.s.a. we had, i think good phone call. it was normal. e spoke about many things. i think and you read it nobody push it.
push me. president trump: in other words, no pressure. no pressure. by the way you know there was no pressure. all you have to do is see what went on on the call. you know that. you could ask the questions. reporter: to do more on joe biden and -- president trump: no, i want him to do whatever he can. this was not his fault. he wasn't there. he's just been here recently. whatever can he do in terms of corruption because the corruption's massive. when biden's son walks away with millions of dollars from ukraine and he knows nothing and they pay him millions of dollars. when biden's son walks out of china with $1.5 million in the fund and the biggest funds in the world can't get money out of china and he's there for one quick meeting and flies in on air force 2, i think that's a horrible thing. i think it's a horrible thing. i know the president, i read a
lot about ukraine, i read a lot about a lot of countries, he wants to stop corruption. he was elected, i think number one, on the basis of stopping corruption. which unfortunately has plagued ukraine. if he could do that, he's doing really the whole world a big favor. i think he's going to be successful. reporter: mr. president, why you personal involved in government -- president trump: you have to ask rudy. i will tell you this. that rudy's looking to also find out where the phony witch-hunt started, how it started. the russian witch hupt that turned out to be 2 1/2 years of phony nonsense. rudy giuliani is a great lawyer. he was a great mayor. highly respected. i watched the passion he's had on television over the last few days. i think it's incredible the way he's been. what he's done is he wants to find out where did this russian witch-hunt that you people really helped perpetrate, where did it start?
how come it started? it was all nonsense. it was a hoax. it was a total hoax. it was a media hoax and a democrat hoax. where did it start? and rudy's got every right to find out where that started. and other people are looking at that, too. where did it start? where did it all come from? it was out of thin air. i think he's got a very strong right to do t he's a good lawyer. he knows exactly what he's doing. it's very important. reporter: do you believe that the ukraine -- president trump: i think it could be. i think they -- that was a nice question. i like that question because frankly i think one of the great crimes committed is hillary inton deleting 33,000 emails after congress sends her a subpoena. think of that. you can't even do that in a civil case. you can't get rid of evidence like that. she deleted 33,000 emails after,
not before, after receiving the subpoena from the u.s. congress. i mean i never -- she's done far worse than that, although don't know how much worse it can be, there were many other things she did that were wrong. but that's so obvious. she gets a subpoena from the united states congress and she deletes them. then she said, as i remember it, that, well, they had to do with the wedding and yogea. she does a lot of yoga, right? they have 33,000 emails about the wedding of her daughter and yoga. i don't think so. how she got away with that one is just -- it's one of many. and it's corrupt government because we have corruption also, mr. president. we have a lot of pruppings in our government when you see what happened with hillary clinton, when you see what happened with comey and mccabe, all these people, we have a lot of things going on here, too. hopefully it will be found out very soon. i think that a lot of progress has been made. a lot of progress has been made.
reporter: can you assure this will continue in the future? president trump: we are working with ukraine. and we want other countries to work with ukraine. when i say work i'm referring to money. more money. we put up a lot of money. gave you anti-tank bufters -- busters that president obama was sending you pillows and sheets. i gave you anti-tank busters. a lot of people didn't want to do that anddy it. i really hope that russia -- i treelly believe that president putin would do something. i hope you and president putin can get together and solve the problem. that would be a tremendous achievement. i know you're trying to do that. reporter: you said he would look into joe biden, ask your prosecutor to look into matters. have you had -- president trump: no i haven't. i think that somebody, if you look at what he did, it's so bad, what his son, he goes to china, he walks away with $1.5 billion. he go to ukraine and walks away
with $50,000 a month and a lot of money in addition to that and the whole thing with the prosecutor in ukraine. he's on tape. this isn't like maybe did he it. maybe he didn't. he's on tape doing this. i saw this a while ago. i looked at it and said, that's incredible. i have never seen anything like that. either he's dumb or he thought he was in a room of really good friends or maybe a combination of both. president zelensky: thank you very much. we have independent country and independent general security. i can't push anyone. this is the answer. i didn't call family or the new general security. i didn't ask him. didn't -- reporter: inaudible]
reporter: country we have a new generally, highly professional. western education. to investigate anything they consider wrong. while we have many more issues to care about. we have corruption cases as president trump mentioned. so we know what to do and we know where to go and what to ackle. reporter: did you ask [inaudible] president trump: no. she's lost her way. she's been taken over by the radical left. she may be a radical left herself. but she really has lost her way.
i spoke to her about guns yesterday. she didn't even know -- she's not interested in guns. nancy pelosi is not interested in guns, gun protection, and gun safety. all she's thinking about is that she's been taken over by the radical left. the whole democrat party. when you look what's happening in the media today, the whole party has taken over by the left. and thank you very much. my poll numbers have gone up. i don't want it to go up for this reason. when they look, you see what's happening, people are really angry at democrats, they are really angry at the democrat party. things like -- as an example, drug pricing, getting drugs down, things like gun safety, infrastructure, the democrats can't talk about that because they have been taken over by a radical group of people and nancy pelosi as far as i'm concerned, unfortunately, she's no longer the speaker of the house. thank you very much, everybody.
