tv Risk and Reward With Deidre Bolton FOX Business July 11, 2017 5:00pm-5:30pm EDT
>> no kidding. >> the most regrettable major in america. but only 14.8% of accounting majors regret. so do the math. >> maybe that's because they can find a job afterwards. >> maybe. >> there you go. risk and reward starts right now. >> that's the very thing tha we need to not be distracted by we have specific things that ave to do here. we've got to come up with a health care outcome. we've got to come up with a tax plan. we've got to come up with a spending strategy. and we've got to be disciplined and not be distracted by things that may be legitimate. but not right now in our lanes. >> the dow briefly fell 100 points in light trading volume after donald trump jr. released the e-mail chain detailing his meeting with a russian attorney in june of last year in which a claim that a top russian prosecutor claimed to have information with hillary and her dealings with russia. but the market took a half
hour to digest that and bounced back an hour later. there was no flight to safety in safe haven plays like gold or the dollar either. this as the senate announced it will delay its recess in order to get the president's pro growth agenda back on track. and we have new details emerging in how hillary clinton's campaign may be having the same thing they're accusing donald trump jr. but with ukrainian officials wished to see hillary win the election. donald trump jr. in a move toward transparency releasing an e-mail chain that set up a meeting with a lawyer during the campaign of last year. a publicist writing that a top russian prosecutor offered to provide the campaign with some official documents and information that claimed it would incriminate hillary and her dealings with russia. the russia support with donald trump. that's according to the e-mail. but the russian attorney in question in an interview with nbc now publicly denies any
connection to the russian government that has been alleged by the media. she's saying the trump team was hot for information. >> i never knew who else would be attending the meeting. all i knew that mr. donald trump jr. was willing to meet with me. >> have you ever worked for the russian government? do you have connections to the russian government? >> no. liz: donald trump jr. responding releasing a statement today saying quote to everyone in order to be totally transparent, i am releasing the entire e-mail chain. the information they had i thought was political opposition research and she had no information to provide and wanted to talk about adoption policy. president trump defending his son by saying my son is a high quality person, and i plaud his transparency. let's take it to former florida congressman retired colonel allen west joins me now.
is it collusion or opposition research. what do you think? >> well, the first thing i think of is stupidity. the fact that you're sitting there and taking a meeting with someone that you did not know their background fully, seeking to have some kind of political opposition research done, i think that if you had taken the time to sit back and say what are the second and third order effects that could come from this, maybe they would not have done it. and this continued drip, drip, this perception that lends itself to a reality that is affecting president trump in getting on the right track. no one's talking about his speech in poland anymore or some of the things that he did as far as the three cs when he's talking about how we're going to boost our energy exports to undermine the russian economy. they're not talking about those things, so they have to get on the right track. . >> when you saw part of the message from donald trump jr. released, does it come to that time that he should have
reported it to the fbi? >> well, absolutely. that would have been the easiest thing to do. that would have been the smartest thing to do. it would have been better to be fully transparent back then last summer than to be fully transparent now when you have this incredible narrative that is being drawn and perpetuated all throughout the liberal progressive media. so, again, t comes back to that desult decision-making process and i just don't think that's something they were thinking about last year. instead of focusing on the issues and the policies, and if you want to talk about opposition research, you have the you are be anian deal that we did herself. liz: and you also have ukraine. the question the information is out there that the democrat campaign for hillary clinton had operatives working with the ukraine in order to dig up information, negative information about donald trump, now the president, and paul manafort. what do you think of that? >> well, that's not going to be reported. of course, everything is going
to be about paul manafort and his ties, instead hillary clinton was doing the same thing. politics is a dirty business. but when you have donald trump that is some mysterious agent for russia and colluding with the kremlin, we know all the talking points that have come out of his first meeting with putin that he wasn't tough enough on him, again, those are the types of things that gets him away from what should be happening, and we saw the market react to it for like you said, 30 minutes to an hour. liz: yeah, white house deputy press secretary sarah huckabee sanders sa yesterday there was nothing inappropriate about this meeting that donald trump had saying quote the only thing i saw from the meeting is that they leaked from the meeting after voluntarily disclosed. somehow the press got it ahead of donald trump jr. releasing it. what do you think? >> well, you continue to have this leaking emanating out of the trump administration, and i think that's another one of the more important things that
we need to do is to get in and dig out these people within the bureaucratic administration that are working against the trump administration that are causing these leaks of sometimes secure information. so that's another important thing that should be on the president's agenda. look, we just lost 16 marines and a navy sailor in a crash today. and no one is talking about the fact that we've seen an up particular in aviation mishappens in our military. those are the types of things we should be talking about and focused on instead of chasing this tail about russian collusion and interfering and what have you. >> yeah. and to are he cap, nothing was delivered, no information was exchanged according to donald trump jr. at this meeting. let's get to the latest on the health care bill. markets rebounding after president trump's pro growth agenda. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell announcing today that he is delaying the august recess until the third week of august in order to tackle obamacare reform.
you think they have enough time, colonel, to get it done? >> no, i do not think they have enough time to get it done. one of the key things you're hearing coming from the senate is that they're going to keep some of the tax impositions there as part of this new deal that they're coming up in the senate. and if they do that, that means that those definitely has to go back to the house because the house is stripped out those tax provisions, and that's going to be a big thing that has to happen because this thing no matter what is going to have to go back to the house. so they should just cancel the entire august recess period. both the house and the senate need to work on this as well as tax reform because you have to be able to show washington, d.c. that you can do more than one thing at a time. it seems these guys can't walk and chew gum. >> so do you think they will delay the august recess in order to get to work? >> i don't think the house has any choice. they have to follow suit, and they all need to stay there and get to business of the american people done so that we can have economic growth in this country.
because of the budget reconciliation, the health care law is what needs to happen as far as tax reform as well. >> thank you, colonel. >> my pleasure. liz: donald trump's lawyer claimed promises with hillary clinton and her dealings with russia. let's take a listen. >> this is unacceptable. this border did not self treason. the pentagon whether the new york times story is true. but this is a very, very serious situation. we should not treat this lightly. >> this in effect is everything that people have been looking for. this is not only devastating to the narrative. i think it's also potentially incriminating. >> whoever is helping the new york times with these stories seems to be doing it in a way to inflict maximum damage on at least donald trump jr. liz: okay. to recap, donald trump jr. got an e-mail from a sic promoter, had curious language, claiming there was a
prosecutor in russia with information. that does not exist. there's delivering damaging information. there's no evidence from jr. asked the russian lawyer to return to come back with damaging information. there's no evidence that donald trump jr. promised anything in return. so the question is where is the collusion? let's bring in jordan, the executive director for the american center of law and justice. bad judgment to take the meeting or a crime? what do you think? >> it's totally a political decision. and if you go back to this period of time, this is prepaul man ford and the ukrainian connections there and the putin connections there. this is preeven hacking information coming out. so it's easy for us to say, yeah, if this was election next time around, would it maybe draw more attention in your e-mail account if it said the russians want to meet with you about information? sure. at this point in time at a campaign that's so unique and not the kind of normal washington campaign, if it's a political judgment, the laws, that's why when you -- i
always -- this is when you think it's weak. when people make claims like treason, which means levying war against the united states, and they can't point really to actual criminal code, violations they point to these broad statutes that are very serious in our constitution that are punishable by death because taking a meeting. that's when you know their legal case. liz: yeah, you're right, jordan. a stretch of the criminal code. allen dershowitz has said that. political collusion, that's something else. but you're right to bringing that up. everybody getting at clinton allies did the same thing as donald trump jr. she worked with ukrainian government officials and journalists to dig up russian-related opposition research on trump and paul manafort. what's your reaction to that? >> yeah. and does anyone say that this story came out in january. it was a 18-pager by politico, and it uncovered this connection. the dnc consulted, liz -- so actually, this person unlike
the person donald trump met with was on the payroll of the dnc while they were doing this work with ukraine to undermine the trump campaign. and this was all out in the political article mainstream news. was anybody running to say this was criminal? was anybody running to allege what this individual did as a consultant was criminal nature and even going a step further? no, they're not because politically, it didn't matter. and because hillary clinton lost. and these stories got buried. now when you compare, actually taking money and doing this work, that's a whole different story. i still think there, liz, by the way, it would be a stretch to say that would be criminal conduct. liz: i hear what you're saying. and allen dershowitz says, yeah, russia, go ahead and hack. i mean, russia's going to do whatever it wants. go hack the dnc, that's no proof of collusion anyway. this is a heck of a fight that's going on. we want to put it in context. jordan, we have presidential historian doug weighed in on the show yesterday saying you
know what? we have seen this in campaigns past. let's watch. >> if don jr. had not met with someone whether they're from russia or indonesia or louisiana who claimed they had information on their opponent, he would be guilty of political malpractice. i mean, here hillary clinton had done the uranium one deal for $2 million to the clinton foundation and the university deal which had $2 million to the clinton foundation. the silicon valley of russia. if someone came to a political campaign and said we have information on your political opponent, of course you should listen to that. where else do you think we're going to hear it? do you think cnn, which provided the debate questions in advance to hillary clinton's campaign? liz: the media's elevating donald trump jr.'s, you know, meeting as if the trump
campaign took foreign campaign donations. we know the clinton campaign under bill clinton did that with china, and they had to turn back money; right? >> yeah. i mean, the statutes that govern that, liz, is actually good time because there's a provision that they can point to. there's a civil law provision about taking foreign money. it's not really been used to prosecute, to take it to the crème level in the clinton case, which they actually had the transfer of funds. they did the refund back, you know? it was, again, a civil matter. these are not criminal matters. and in this situation, if everything out there is how the lawyer said it, how donald trump jr. has said it, is that it came to a close, there was no, there there to make the transfer -- i mean, the civil violation would not move forward. and i do think that this is, again, this is politics, and that's when you're going to hear words like treason being used. you're not going to see a lot of codes being cited. liz: thank you, jordan.
good to see you. come back soon. >> thanks, liz. liz: and be sure to catch kellyanne conway for her reaction to donald trump jr.'s e-mail. tonight lou dobbs at 7:00 p.m. eastern time right here on fox business and donald trump jr. himself sits down with sean hannity exclusively tonight at 10:00 p.m. eastern time. let's get back to the markets closing mix, the dow briefly falling 100 points at the donald trump released his e-mails. but the market took half an hour, not to gain after the real details came out. that and the word that the senate is delaying its recess in august to push forward the president's pro growth policies. now we've got antitrump rhetoric going full tilt. muslim activists and bernie sanders supporter, first she called for a jihad against president trump. now she's saying she's a victim for the very words that she used when she was criticized for calling jihad. we have democrat socialist bernie sanders also jumping up
on the hyperbole wagon as well saying the gop health care bill is quote nine times worse than the losses we suffered in 9/11. we've got that sound for you. and also former homicide detective rod wheeler cannot believe his ears. he's astounded. he's here to respond after this potsch: you each drive a ford pickup, right? (in unison) russ, leland, gary: yes. gary: i have a ford f-150. michael: i've always been a ford guy. potsch: then i have a real treat for you today. michael: awesome. potsch: i'm going to show you a next generation pickup. michael: let's do this. potsch: this new truck now has a cornerstep built right into the bumper. gary: super cool. potsch: the bed is made of high-strength steel, which is less susceptible to punctures than aluminum. jim: aluminum is great for a lot of things, but maybe not the bed of a truck. potsch: and best of all, this new truck is actually- gary: (all laughing) oh my... potsch: the current chevy silverado. gary: i'm speechless. gary: this puts my ford truck to shame. james: i'll tell you, i might be a chevy guy now. the tragic losses we suffered on 9/11 every single year. liz: well, antigop rhetoric went full tilt and then completely unhinged over the weekend with bernie sanders saying the gop health reform bill may be nine times worse than the losses we suffered on 9/11. taking a quick check of health care stocks as senate now says senate may be pushing off that senate resources on obamacare reform. looks like we've got mixed action on the insurers in the green. joining me now, former dc homicide detective rod wheeler. what do you think of bernie sanders using 9/11 as a comparison? >> you know, liz, i simply don't understand it. for bernie sanders or any politician, liz, to try to utilize the most horrific day in our nation's history that's still fresh, by the way. with some of us. 9/11 wasn't that long ago. it was only 14 or 15 years ago
and to try to use that horrific day for political gain is appalling, it's disgusting, and i'm really saddened that what's really tragic is the fact that he even attempted to do that and to say that. so it's really disheartening to hear one of our statements make that kind of statement. >> yeah. and he's saying -- it's debatable whether 28,000 people are going to die because of the gop reform and to trace that to 9/11, i wonder what the families say in pennsylvania and dc would say to that. >> these people are offended by this statement, liz. i tell you, i get the fact that there needs to be a lot of work done with obamacare. we need to repeal it and replace it. and let me tell you, our senators and congresspeople here on the hill, they're working hard to make that happen. but to try to appease to people the motion. i mean, to actually take 9/11, a day that we all remember, we'll never forget, and to try to use that for political gain, it's horribly the wrong thing to do.
liz: and bernie sanders clearly wants single pair but the administration, rather, the va is an example of single pair. he found hundreds of thousands of records for veterans waiting for care, and those veterans passed away. so saying they could have died waiting for single pair care. what do you think about that? >> it's ridiculous. that analogy doesn't add up. whether or not he wants single pair care or any other type of care, the bottom line is our senators, we elect them to figure this thing out, to make it work. repealing and replacing obamacare needs to happen. but we can't make that happen by using the rhetoric that bernie sanders used yesterday in that speech. liz: getting back to more unhinged rhetoric and published on his instagram account friday, comedian george lopez suggested deport the police instead. here's what he said. the trump administration
deporting latinos to just the streets safer. you want to make the streets safer? deport the police. even many of lopez's hispanic franking, cop fans as well said this is outrageous. also, criminal illegal aliens are being deported. and said that every hispanic immigrant is part of the criminal element. we know hispanics are hard working and religious. >> well, you know, what we need to deport are some of these boring comedians. these individuals thank that they're being funny when it's not funny at all. first of all, liz, let me say this. president trump does not want to deport latinos. he wants to deport people that sit in this country illegally. it doesn't matter what your ethnicity is. and that's what he wants to do. but people like george lopez, who, by the way, i really never heard of prior to this story, so he's not that big of a deal, you know, when he makes statements like that, it doesn't do anything to help the hispanic community, and we
need to work on deporting people like him, if you want my opinion more than anybody else. >> still tracking to george lopez. we have thousands gathering for the funeral for new york police officer who was assassinated, shot in the head last week while sitting in a mobile command unit truck in the bronx. rod, we have the mayor. i just wanted your reaction. the mayor of new york city, bill de blasio, he went to the g20 protest march and with hundreds of cops were injured. what do you think of the mayor doing that? >> well, again, here we go again with one of these democratic mayors that's turning his back on police officers. police officers that put their lives on the line each and every day. can i be honest? it just really wasn't a surprise. de blasio has turned his back on police officers ever since day one. we realize that, we recognize that, but i will say this, liz. we still, meaning law enforcement, we go out there each and every day, we protect
de blasio and george lopez and everybody else that wants to turn their backs on cops. liz: we love having you go on the show. and thank you for your service. >> thank you. liz: seattle passing an income tax on the upper brackets, including small businesses that creates the jobs that pay the taxes for these politicians. now, this controversial measure, which was passed unanimously, it would levy a two and a quarter percent on individuals making $250,000 a year or couples making $500,000 or more. also businesses could get hit. it's expected to hit a legal challenge. next up, we have movement activist and bernie sanders supporter. first called for jihad against president trump. now she's saying she's the victim of her own words when criticized. we're bringing in american for democracy president dr. judy jasser. hear his take on linda. that's next. don't go away
>> i hope that we when we stand up to this who oppress our communities that as a form of jihad that we are struggling against tyrants and rulers not only abroad in the middle east or the other side of the world but here where you have fascists and islamphobes in the white hous house. liz: linda, a bernie sanders supporter. she's a sharia law advocate. she also helped organizize women's march in washington, d.c. she gave an inflammatory speech demanding basically declaring and talking about muslims waging jihad against president trump. she also said quote the number one priority for muslims is to not assimilate and please law. now, she is being groomed as the leader of the democratic party. now, we have this. a muslim contributor to the dow morning news came to
defense saying jihad is personal to me. it's not terrorism. you want to understand the true meaning of jihad? you have to look at the everyday struggles of a human being. hijack islamic to mean violent and holy war. let's be clear. talks about jihad as war. let's be clear about linda. she backs sharia law. sharia law oppresses women. so even though she organized the women's march in dc. she opened up her speech talking about jihad and in that speech she opened up the speech talking about a terrorist on the 93 attack on the world trade center that injured six and killed 1,000. that's not the islamic way. you should be violent. let's bring in the america
