♪ >> you know what he is not done yet. he has more christmas classics for all of us. plus, we're going to talk to him about how he celebrates christmas at his house later this hour. >> first christmas is all about tradition, so we thought we would share some of ours with you. we're going to start with elizabeth. >> okay. so we would always go to mama's house and start christmas eve with seven fish, and the next day it was ten rounds of pasta it seemed, and there i am enjoying some accessories, and apparently i was still drinking out of a bottle. >> are you sure -- >> there i am just waiting for santa. i'm there unwatched. >> who is watching you? >> grandma angelina is there.
my whole family getting together. this is my brother and i when we traveled to the alps at the local wal-mart. >> there we are in our christmas best right there. >> well, my tradition -- that's awesome, and thanks for envigt me. this really hurts. my tradition -- my mom used to deny she did this, but we were forced to dress alike on christmas. there's proof. again, that's steven. i play the role of the middle child. then jim. i have a lot of issues because of that. jim is the oldest. my mom says no i didn't dress you like that every year, but, again, we're all wearing mock turtlenecks, and no one has the guts to wear them. there we are squatting. we're so exhausted after taking the photo session. again, three vests. yet, my mom continues to say we didn't. then we choz. for $96. we had to get them back the next morning. >> for all? >> no each. >> you kept the cumberbun.
>> now the withhold world knows. >> one year it was the best because after they had opened all the presents, one of the kids, peter, saw in a christmas tree there was a letter from santa. eventually it led to their first dog. watch. >> wow. >> peter, mary and sally too. i can't say how proud i am of you. there's one gift that i -- that wouldn't fit on my sleigh so i am going to deliver it another way. >> sometimes this spring when you look around, you probably drive around town to pick up friends who give -- you can name

day ♪ ♪ soon it will be christmas day ♪ >> fantastic. unbelievable. that was beautiful. thank you so much, renee. if you are not an opera fan, you may still recognize renee fleming. earlier this year she played the super bowl. we were there freezing together. she became the first appear are a singer to perform the national anthem there. that must have been special. most recently sang "in the snow" at the macy's thanksgiving day parade where we have -- because she's so so used to performing in the cold weather, we've flown in snow that we're actually -- >> i appreciate that. >> i feel right at home. >> what did that feel like at the super bowl? >> it was unbelievable. 110 million people. that's probably my entire lifetime audience put together. >> it ended up being an interesting game. you were there singing in the cold weather, and they say, hey do the macy's day parade. you think, great, it's going to be nice out. what happened? >> it was snow and wet snow and
raining, and nobody expected it. we were completely unprepared. you know to see three million people lining the streets all looking with such joy at everything that's happening made me -- it was very inspiring. >> to see -- >> isn't that exciting? yeah. >> this album has done 2357b tossic. they call it a crossover in the music language. it's already ranked on the billboard charts for a while. explain your approach. >> well once we established that it wasn't going to be an orchestral recording, i thought let's do something nonclassical. we were going to be in new york anyway, which is my home and i thought, well, i love the multi-genre approach because when i think of new york, i think of jazz and broadway and of course, pop music is everywhere and all of these other fabulous styles of music, and the collaborator on this from witton marcellus and gregory porter who just won best jazz vocals this year. fabulous colleagues. >> from broadway to jazz to

it's been around since 1933, so it's so cool to know that the rockettes' past and present are doing the same thing. >> we were talking about your costume changes alone, right? >> up to eight. >> the change is at least 60 seconds, maybe 09 seconds. it's corey graphed chaos back stage. >> choreographed chaos. >> also a lot of practicing, and you have many shows just in a single day. tell us a little bit. >> up to six shows a day. we rehearse six days a week six hours a day up to eight hours a day in the offseason. it's hard, but so worth it. >> have you that seven pounds of costume, all those changes, five, six shows a day. it's been going on for 85 years. what's the secret to making it feel new and amazing every single year? >> what's greater graet is we're bringing back a classical favorite rag dolls, and it's one of my favorites. it's one of the first numbers i learned my first year. it's brand new scene, brand new
costumes. he designed the snow costumes new last year. it's such a special dance. >> i love it. >> we are. we're going show you kicks. we have different types of kicks. we do high kicks and short kicks. >> you're going to be a rockette for the day. >> we're not tall enough and our legs aren't long enough, but today you are -- >> you are honorary rockettes for the day. >> people actually think that we touch, and we don't even touch. we feel the fabric to make sure we're in line, but we do not touch. >> i'm going to be leaning on you. >> all right. >> touch your right toe to your -- you're going to take your right arm and take it behind the woman to the right of you, and your left arm to the woman to left of you. hold those shoulders back. feel the pinch? >> oh yeah. the christmas pinch. >> the christmas pinch. we're going to step on our right foot and kick our left.

live from america's news headquarters. merry christmas. i'm leland vitters. sewn where i pictures has defied hacker threats and released the movie "the interview" in theaters and on-line. the movie is being shown in about 300 independent movie theaters across the country. after all major theater chains backed out. this, of course, marks a reversal for the studio which previously decided to scrap that controversial film. former president george h.w. bush is spending this christmas at a hospital. his spokesman says the prognosis is "positive." the 90-year-old former command ner chief was rushed late tuesday night to houston methodist after experiencing shortness of breath. doctors say his ailment is

>> 20 years. 22 years this year. >> this year to know that 60000 children will really be receiving the gift of goodness, what is -- why do you want to do this time and time again? >> well, what it is, we have 60,000 going to iraq. we will collect about 10.2 million this year for children in 110 different countries. i believe that these -- you know, the children of the world, god made us and created us, and christmas is about god-giving. god gave his son to this earth to take our sins and if we were willing to put our faith and trust in him, he will forgive us of our sins and heal our hearts. christmas is about god giving. the bible says that god so loved the world that he gave his own begotten son that so whoever beleaveth in him will be given everlasting life. >> we fill the box with toys for
a child, and it's got school supplies in here. you got a doll and things for the hair pencils and pens and toothbrushes and -- >> we see the results of this. it's a glimpse right of the greatest gift that we have in christ, but when your kids open these gifts -- look at this picture here. i mean, pure joy. reverend this is what is happening across the globe. >> well, and it's been -- we ask everybody that packs a box to pray for the child who will get the box. no one knows where the box will go, but god sdz. can you imagine 10 million people praying for 10 million children what god will do this christmas in the hearts and lives of these little children around the world? you take the refugees in the middle east, about 72% of the refugees are children. they have lost their homes. they've lost everything that they have known or loved as left behind. they're afraid.
they're cold. they're scared. when you can give a gift to them, the joy and the hope that it puts in their hearts that somebody out there loves them and hasn't forgotten them. >> you know what, when the kids pack it up and we know after doing it as a family they really have children their friends, across the globe in their hearts, and really sharing that message is so important. i have to think that your dad had such influence on you and your spirit of giving and loving. how is he doing? >> he is -- is he doing fair. it's been a hard year for him. >> he is staying connected, but he is moving a little slower this year. >> well, aren't we all? you know i think a lot of people can say that, but not slower and harder at all.
>> we thank you for his service and his entire family. what's your message to everyone this rms christmas? >> that god loves sinners, and that god is willing to forgive sin. this christmas god will heal your heart. he will forgive you. he will take the pieces of one's life, and he will put it together, and he will make sense out of it. there's so many people out there that feel that the things that they have done, they'll never be forgiven. god can forgive them. >> no matter what they've done? no matter what i've done this week? how bad i've been? >> many people feel that god cannot forgive them. he will, but you have to come to him through faith in christ. jesus cites is the only one to take our sins. no other person in hifrt has taken other sins except christ, and when he went to the cross and he shed his blood and suffered on that cross for our sins, he was buried for our sinses when god raised him to life, and he will come to each and every heart that is willing to trust him by faith. >> well, what a message to

>> is there some food that some loved one prepares that says, okay, that's what we have at christmas at our house? >> you know i'm just a ham guy. as long as grandma and mama makes the ham, then i know it is the holidays. >> all right. now, you cut an album a couple of years ago. it was a christmas album. >> i did. >> it's got to be weird because even though they play it at christmas time, you record it during the summer, the fall. >> yeah, yeah. we did it smack dab in the middle of the summer. it's a little different when you are going in there and it's 90 degrees outside and you are wearing shorts and t-shirt singing "let it snow." it works out. we try and decorate the place all nice and christmassy. it works out pretty good. >> it's hard to sing "i'm dreaming of a white christmas" when you really really -- >> when are you sweating. exactly. definitely. >> all right. what are you going to do for us today? >> we're going to do a little elvis for you right now. a little santa claus is back in town. >> let's get to it from his album. here is santa claus is back in

eyes. ♪ like open doors. >> we're so lucky and fortunate to have them live for news our studio. micah, and hidden over behind the harp is mason, kendall and cordato on piano. how did that change your life? >> well, it completely changed the paths of our lives. i was a teacher. cordero was a lawyer. >> you were an attorney? >> yes, and mason was a teacher as well and kendall also taught as well as worked at a grocery store, and now we're able to live our dream, and it's been pretty amazing. >> this is your first holiday together. only been together nine months. >> yes. >> new traditions your starting? >> we have been talking about that. one thing we're going to do is have christmas dinner together just like a few days before because a lot of the guys are going home for christmas and we
want to just have a day where we celebrate together the whole year and all the things that happened. >> you have a lot of celebrate. a brand new album. tell us about that. >> the album features the songs we performed on "america's got talent." and we're doing the full length version of the songs. >> you going to perform "deck the halls." with your own twist. >> we're excited. >> i'll get out of the way. alternatives to getting home misflights get cancelled or weather leaves me stranded someplace i just don't want to be. i've had some close calls of almost getting stranded in new york around christmas, when i wanted just to be home. but while i've gotten home later than i wanted i've always made it home for christmas. no gift under the tree is as good as that for me. my thought of the first christmas how joseph and mary had seen their plans to get home get all messed up as well. i'm sure they wanted to be back in nazareth for the birth of their baby but instead they ended up stuck in bethlehem. so i'm pretty sure that weather and airline schedules had nothing to do with that. they didn't realize but they were having an appointment with destiny. because centuries earlier when the prophets predicted the birth of the mess sigha, the city for his arrival wasn't nazareth or even jerusalem. instead, it was the sleepy little victim of beth -- little
village of bethlehem. i'm sure they suffered anxious moments trying to figure out what they would do if they didn't get home. after all, that's where their families were. that's where they would have support and comfort and be surrounded by those who could help make the birth as easy as possible. instead all of their hopes and prayers couldn't sway the will of god who had determined long ago how and where his son would be brought into the world. there are times in our lives when things go exactly according to plan, but when god has a bigger purpose, we can possibly imagine, none of our efforts, no matter how well intentioned or practical. will ever be able to change his course for us. we might be able to get the airlines to change our flight, but only god can control the actual journey and no matter
