university of iowa police are searching for a suspect in 3 sexual assaults. they are looking for a white male who is about 5-10. and he was wearing red flannel, torn jeans, and flip flops. he was seen near uihc and the main library. the university has issued a hawk alert about this. if you see him, ui police are asking you to contact them and to not approach him. this morning, firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire at kloeckner metals. the business sits along highway 20 just outside the dubuque city limits. the fire broke out around 6:15 last night in the maintenance shop and spread into the main part of the building . some employees were inside at

everyone got out safely. sheriff's offices are preparing to see an influx of people looking to renew their permit to carry weapons. that's because of a law that went into effect a few years ago. on january first of 2011, this new law required sheriff's offices to issue permits to all applicants unless they met certain disqualifiers. before that, authorities could issue permits at their discretion. the new iowa law led to a wave of new permits. in 20-10, iowa authorities issued around 39-thousand permits to the public. in 20-11 - after the law took effect - authorities issued more than 101- thousand permits to carry weapons. the new law said the permit was good for five years. so many start to expire at the beginning of 2016. there's a catch. people who want to renew need to do so at least 30 days prior to the expiration date on the card, so for some people that's coming very quickly. the renewal process also has a training requirement. sheriffs' offices are already

see more and more people calling and stopping by. "22:40:03 at any given time, there's probably 25 permits in there for me to review. what i expect is the numbers to triple what we are seeing now. so i will have to spend quite a bit more time, depending on people's criminal history, it takes quite a bit of time to go through and make sure someone is not disqualified by state law or by federal law. " authorities expect that this could hold up some other county processes. sheriff's offices say if people don't get that renewal submitted 30 days prior to the expiration date, people will need a whole "new" permit. those rules and fees are a little bit different. we posted some more information with this story on kcrg dot com. in a tv-9 follow-up this morning... today, a man who shot a dubuque police office will appear in court for re- sentencing. he could spend less time behind bars. 77-year-old eddie chest pleaded guilty to first degree robbery and attempted murder charges for the shooting during an armed robbery in 20-09. as part of the plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to recommend that chest serve two 25- year

terms concurrently. instead, a judge last year sentenced chest to serve the terms consecutively , resulting in a 50-year sentence. last month, the iowa court of appeals overturned that sentence, saying prosecutors didn't push the judge to consider the lighter sentence. carson versus trump. republican presidential candidates face off tonight for the 4th debate in milwaukee. a recent survey of likely south carolina g-o-p voters shows doctor ben carson moving ahead of donald trump. the most recent cnn/orc poll here in iowa shows trump in the lead. it's also a smaller field tonight, with only 8 on the main stage. the secondary debate will be on at 6 o'clock, and the main one at 8 on the fox business network. unity point is opening a new family medicine facility on the west side of cedar rapids.

large brush pile next month. the pile is about 30 feet in diameter. waterloo has banned burning brush, leaves and other yard waste for 13 years. so the council kept in line with tradition and denied the request. this morning, the water is safe for everyone to drink in waterloo after a spike in nitrate levels. water works warned families to not let babies drink the water late last week. the maximum level of nitrate for one water source is 10 milligrams per liter. on friday, it was 10-point-7. water works immediately shut off the well. "sometimes adverse weather heavy rain can affect it, sometimes it brings it up if theres enough sometimes it will dilute it and bring it down. its really hard because its such a complex system to have a distinct cause and affect. " clark says they plan to expand the number of water testing techniques moving forward. starting today a longtime business in anamosa will start selling its goods at a discounted price... because it's closing.

family foods says it's closing within the next few weeks. the store has been in business for 50 years. a general manager with the store says competition from bigger stores in the area has chipped away at business over the years. family foods still has other locations in grundy center and tipton. for the 4th time this election season, republican presidential candidates face off in a debate tonight. this time all eyes with be on donald trump and ben carson as they battle for first and second spots in the polls. an officer-involved shooting on a south carolina college campus left one person dead and another in custody. but right now, here's a look at today's opening farm markets. good morning!
