several people to evacuate their homes on wednesday morning. high water washed out an rv park in clermont in fayette county the next day. we talked with some people who live at the campground. they told us they'll start to move their belongings back in this weekend. and the turkey river crested in elkader yesterday morning. the national weather service expected it to crest at above 26 feet, but it only reached 22 and half feet. city officials say some flood levels were higher this week than in 2008. some of the flood-damaged areas yesterday. he made a stop in spillville..where water covered the historic inwood ballroom. the governor said he's proud of the way the town is reacting to try and bounce back. for winneshiek, howard, fayette, allmakee and clayton counties. doing that opens up state funding to help with flood recovery. be sure to stay with t-v nine's first alert storm team whenever severe weather hits. you can download our weather app on google play or on the apple app store. a new building project at the university of iowa hopes to help a growing population of engineering students. the university says it needs more space, at a cost of 37- million dollars. the university broke ground on a new 65-to school's main engineering building yesterday. this is what it will look like, but the project is still about 18 million dollars short of what it needs. it will feature two new classrooms, study areas, and new digital and mechanical tools like 3-d printers. the addition won't be just for engineering students. it's also meant to bring in art students and promote collaboration . "we have engineers and artists working together on projects to learn more about how creativity

project two years ago. the university hopes to complete the addition by next fall. midamerican energy is now looking for land in iowa. it needs space for more than one thousand wind turbines. the iowa utilities board approved the company's three point six billion dollar wind turbine proposal yesterday. the utilities board says the project will put iowa on track to use wind energy to meet 85 percent of its electricity tonight's farmers market after dark in downtown cedar rapids could affect you whether or not you plan to go. if you're not going, it'll be tough to drive through downtown because the city's shutting down second and third avenues from first street to sixth street starting at 6:30 tonight. it's also closing second, third, and fifth streets from first avenue to fourth avenue. that's most of the downtown area. the city decided to expand the nighttime market from seven blocks to 19 blocks after complaints about last year's

up last year. to help with overcrowding in the bars, guests who buy a drink will get a special cup that way they can take the drink outside. the market will go until 11:00 tonight. this morning an iowa native and emmy-winning actress is getting her very own day. governor terry branstad will officially proclaim today 'cloris leachman day'. the actress grew up in the des moines area and graduated from roosevelt high school. she got her start in community theater the 90-year-old has more than a dozen awards including an oscar for 'the last picture show'. she also competed on the abc show dancing with the stars in 2005. a little league baseball team from iowa's chance at a world series ended early this year. but the young team from johnston say competing on national tv against the rest of the world was experience of a lifetime.

have been this week. flooding forced evacuations in decorah and freeport along the river on wednesday morning. it then turned roads into rivers in clermont the next day. people there had to evacuate an rv campground for several hours. and it took over downtown streets in elkader just yesterday. clayton county officials are asking everyone there to be patient with what could be a lengthy recovery. "we ask that people don't just self-dispatch themselves to the scene, let's give our professionals time to take as long as two weeks. governor terry branstad issued disaster proclamation s for five counties in that area. he and lieutenant governor kim reynolds toured some of the flood damage yesterday. branstad said some victims are in very difficult financial situations. "flash flooding also, unfortunately, is not covered by flood insurance. so we have situations where some people are being told it's not covered, they're not going to

indeed that is the case." branstad says he's trying to determine if the damage in northeast iowa adds up to at least four point three million dollars. if so, he would be able to ask for a presidential disaster declaration and federal disaster relief. one elkader woman who has experienced doesn't plan on moving. 90-year-old rachel engelhardt says everything she needs and loves is right in her neighborhood. kcrg-tv9 dubuque bureau chief katie wiedemann reports. it was over the microwave, so it would have been that high. in june 2008, flood water nearly destroyed her home. "they wanted me to move to the upper end of town and i said 'no way'. "

" englehardt doesn't drive, so she wants t stay within walking distance of st. joseph's catholic church. republican presidential nominee donald trump is campaigning with senator joni ernst today in central iowa. trump won't be on a motorcycle himself, but is joining in on ernst's annual roast and ride in des moines. the annual event takes off from the iowa state ir harley davidson shop on des moines's north side. governor branstad and iowa's republican members of congress will also be there. this is video from last year's ride where several former republican presidential candidates met with voters. ernst says trump's visits to iowa tend to stir up attention, most of which she says is positive. "i hear a lot more about donald trump when he comes into the state - again i hear a lot more about when he comes into town and the type of excitement he's generating versus hilary clinton - i hear very little about her visits to iowa i don't even know how many times she's been to iowa "

statistical tie with former secretary of state hillary clinton in iowa. results from quinnipiac university last week show clinton with a 47 to 44 percent lead. that's within the margin of error. iowa's 4th district congressman steve king says he's concerned donald trump is softening his stance on illegal immigration. trump's campaign tells abc news he'll a speech sometime next week. despite a possible change in approach, king says he's happy trump is still bringing up the issue. students better understand their loans and financial aid. congress did not act on the proposed legislation. the stage is set for today's first ever concert at kinnick stadium. crews were hard at work yesterday making final preparations for the back porch revival. the concert kicks off at three o'clock this afternoon. headliners include blake shelton, thomas rhett, and big and rich. it also features tucker beathard , whose brother is senior hawkeyes quarterback c-j beathard . the concert is raising money for the native fund, which former hawkeye dallas clark and actor ashton kutcher, who's from cedar rapids, set up the charity. there is a chance for storms today, but the hawkeye athletics department says it has a plan. sot "temperature wise we're going to be in great shape, there might be some rain, but i don't think it's going to wash us out, the only thing that is going to wash us out is lightning, and then we'd have to clear the stadium." there are still tickets available for concert.

man they say killed two catholic nuns earlier this week. investigators say 46-year- old rodney sanders killed sisters margaret held and paula merrill. the two 68-year-olds were

home on thursday. police say sanders was a person of interest in the case early on in the investigation. held previously lived in the midwest. her family still lives in the milwaukee wisconsin area. while in wisconsin, she served with the school sisters of saint francis. she also worked at a catholic high school in wisconsin in the 1970's before moving south. "i've been thinking of our lifetime together, and all the good times and things we did together. that's what i've been think of. and missing her. " with kentucky- based sisters of charity of nazareth. a nevada state trooper is lucky to be alive after a suspect shot at him during a foot chase. the bullet hit and dented the trooper's badge and then bounced off. nevada highway patrol says the officer pulled over a car with three people inside early yesterday morning in las vegas. one person took off, starting the chase. authorities say that man
