warnings nor the howling winter weather seem convincing. the morton county sheriff's department warned protesters tuesday that they'll start blocking supplies and people from entering the campsite. a spokeswoman for the department later clarified that they'd only stick to punishing trespassers. members of the standing rock sioux tribe...who originally filed the lawsuit against the pipeline...say they're not budging. "water is sacred. but, it's also good business to protect your water resource." north dakota governor jack dalrymple warned protesters about the winter weather - which will only get worse. he said that first responders wil who stay 17 native americans, who've served under the obama administration , signed a letter asking the president to step in - and allow protesters to stay. the c-e-o of the company building the pipeline is also weighing in - trying to convince protesters the pipeline will be safe. construction equipment in iowa, are now in custody. law enforcement in pilot mound made the arrests yesterday after a group of protesters ran past security to the construction site. pilot mound is in boone county. 2 of protesters chained their wrists together inside of a p- v-c pipe, wrapped in chicken wire a state patrol plane searched the area for others in the group, who call themselves "mississippi stand." "we fully understand the risk of every direct action we take...and we are willing to take those risks and put our lives on the line because we deeply believe water is life therefore we must do everything in our human capacity to protect it " the des moines river is the one of the last sections of the pipeline left to complete in central iowa

crash. cedar rapids police say burglars may be targeting a different kind of valuable this year. police say burglars are taking checkbooks from homes, cars and businesses. the number of counterfeit and forgery cases in cedar rapids is up from 171 through mid november last year to 306 so far this year. several eastern iowa police departments caught thousands of dol rapids police say that accounts for the early increase in counterfeitin g cases. but later, investigators noticed more people stealing blank checks and checkbooks from cars and homes. police say if you are missing checks, call your bank. they can close the account and change check numbers. installing sufficient locks on your home and keeping valuables out of sight in your car can also make a difference. today, iowa big is celebrating the opening of a new building and the $1 million dollar award it got

capstone like experience through a real world project. back in september, iowa big announced it received a million dollars from the x-q super school project. it applied for the grant after the project did a bus tour, which stopped in cedar rapids. iowa big will use the money across a 5-year period. today, speakers including mayor ron corbett and the super school president will talk about the new learning space. they will also talk about the different opportunities for cedar rapids high schoolers through the organization. officials expect at least 200 peopl from 5 to 7 p-m. the moment a child in foster care finds a long-term home can mean a fresh start... and a better future. iowa kids net needs more people to create that special moment for hundreds of kids in the state. kcrg-tv nine's brea love joins us. brea, november is national adoption month, how is iowa kids net recognizing the month? well chris and nicole, the organization is putting a special emphasis on the one thing it always needs more of--foster families. last year, 400 families signed

families or adopted children. but 500 children needed a home. iowa kids net goes through 16 counties in iowa. this is one example of a family in the program. it starts up near benton county and goes to the missouri border. officials say the bigger areas like cedar rapids and iowa city have the biggest need for families. low: 30 the f-b-i is trying to learn more about the the f-b-i is trying to learn more about the possible motive behind the attack at ohio state university that hurt 11 people. this comes as isis released a responsibility for the attack. however, there is no evidence that claim is true. investigators say abdul artan drove his car into a crowd of students and started attacking people with a butcher knife on monday. an officer shot and killed him when he refused to obey orders. the white house press secretary says there's evidence that extremism and terrorism motivated him he had recently transferred to ohio state. he told the school newspaper that he was self conscious about showing his muslim faith.

" investigators are looking into artan's electronics and online activity. three of the people who were hurt are still in the hospital. california have captured one of two inmates who sawed their way out of jail. the santa clara county sheriff's office says laron campbell is back in custody. they found him in a city about an hour north of the santa clara county's main jail that he escaped from. deputies are still looking for rogelio chavez. the two got away last wednesday night from by cutting through the bars covering a second story window. then, they repelled down using a rope made from bedsheets. they face life sentences of

friends and supporters will raise money today for a man cedar rapids police shot and seriously injured. on november first, officer lucas jones pulled over jerime mitchell near coe college for a traffic violation. police say the two men got into some sort of altercation. jones fired his gun at mitchell who was still inside his car. mitchell's family says the shooting paralyzed him. linn county supervisor stacey walker will talk at the benefit tonight. it's at the african american museum in cedar rapids from five until nine tonight. the money will support a prosecutor say the two brothers accused of conspiring to fix lottery games in 2010 across 5 states, including iowa, had rigged even more drawings and planted software to let them fix even more games. the trial for former lottery computer technology official eddie tipton is in february. his brother tommy tipton, of texas, goes to trial in january. they're charged with ongoing criminal conduct. prosecutors say eddie tipton hid a false number generating program on lottery computers. that helped him fix the games --

more than $2 million in winnings. attorneys for the tiptons say the state can't prove the charges. foster and adoptive families open their hearts and homes to hundreds of children each year in iowa. according to iowa kids net, 400 people in the area are creating safe, permanent connections between kids and families. but the group says that's not enough. kcrg-tv nine's brea love joins us. brea, where is iowa kids net looking for more families? chris and nicole, they're looking for homes from benton county to the missouri state line. that area ic there's 160 families in linn county and 71 in johnson county. but there's still a need for more foster and adoptive families. lisa metzler has five children, and her youngest two are adopted. armando is 14, and tristan is 7. both of them have special needs. "35:14that's kind of the area, where we felt we were kind of called to do. to kind of take care of those kids who might have those needs, where other families might not be able to or be willing to do that." since 2000, the metzlers fostered more than 50 children all while raising their biological three. "37:00they've just kind of grown

the house and i think it's been really a good experience for them to see what their life is like, compared to what other kids have to go through." armando and tristan started in the foster program. they've been in the family since they were babies. metzler says its rewarding to see how far they've come. for those looking to adopt or foster, iowa kids net says the best advice is to start now. "43:29it's not really hard to do, but it does take time. you want to make sure that you're ma good decision about what the best for you guys." for those looking for options, there's plenty of resources across eastern iowa. "44:48there's no stigma about that, there needs not to be. giving your child the best life for them or helping them find a family that could be a parent for them is amazing." the metzlers are an example of an open adoption. both tristan and armando's families are still in their lives, which just gives them more adults to love and support them. with with the president-elect's pick for attorney general yesterday. jeff sessions is a republican senator from alabama who sits on grassley's senate judiciary committee. in the meeting, grassley praised sessions connections. " he knows the justice department well, not only from serving on the judiciary committee and having oversight and policy for that department as a senator, but he has had a long relationship as a u.s. attorney and other positions within the department of justice. " grassley says the panel plans to hold a confirmation hearing before the inauguration on january 20th. the 2nd finalist for president of the university of northern iowa is someone who's very familiar with the campus. today, he's meeting with people around u-n-i. jim wohlpart is already serving as u-n-i's interim president. he was previously the university's provost. yesterday afternoon, the first finalist, neil theobald, attended a forum on campus. he is the former president of temple

watson leaves behind a young daughter. so does his passenger, 22-year-old kaitlyn hall. hall's mother says the couple was also expecting a child together. watson was driving an s- u-v early saturday morning when it hit the center guard rail on the s curve. the vehicle then rammed into the back of a police s- u-v. as tv9's samantha myers reports, those close to watson say they don't know how his daughter will react to the news. the mother of the woman martrell watson has a five year old daughter with says it was like losing her own son. since he was 13. she says he had a special bond with his daughter marianna. they haven't told her yet what happened because they want to wait until his family comes from illinois. " 12:49:02;26 "i think any child that grows up without a father impacts them tremendously. i think it's just going to be very sad for her especially it's a christmas, thanksgiving holidays this is going to be a sad memory now every year around a holiday that's supposed to be happy and family oriented."
