live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. rain is on the horizon. live doppler hd shows the first of another series of storms on the way for a wet weekend in the bay area. >> good morning, i am kristen sze. >> we will look outside right now from our exploritorium camera, the clouds are thick and heavy. the rain is about to return. the question is, how many hours until the first rain drops? meteorologist mike nicco has a look at live doppler hd. >> great question. between noon and 1:00 o'clock we will see the showers march ashore. right new, just light showers especially along the higher elevations of our coastline.
as we move through this, they are moving from south to north on the moist flow. that is why most of the showers are going to head more north but the entire line is marching to the east. look at that, thunderstorms to our southwest which is 120 miles from us. there are two waves: the official cold front with the strongest thunderstorm and a secondary wave coming in during the evening keeping the threat of showers and storms in the forecast. moderate to locally heavy rain with brief flooding and hail and the coverage and intense difficult will taper overnight. the bay area is still cleaning up from a last series of storms and racing to get ready for the next wave. a huge problem that will take a while to fix is the sinkhole in san francisco at 6th and lake where amy hollyfield joins us. amy? the race is on here. the workers say the last thing this situation needs is more water. it is coming.
they have a plan. they hope they get it done in time. crews in san francisco heard have a huge job ahead of them: filling in a huge sinkhole. now another storm is on the way. >> it gets your hackles up. nervous. about the whole thing. yes. >> concern is that the unstable situation may not be able to handle more water and while we were talking about it, it started to sprinkle. >> we have to manage the water, first, and that is why we are rushing the manhole and get the pipes in. when we get that in, maybe we can stabilize this. it is a rush right now. >> business owners hope the next storm goes easy on them and they still going through soggy merchandise from flooding from the last storm. >> it is time. it is going to take away the
customers because everything is dragged out a week or two. a lot of catching up to do. >> back at the sinkhole i asked workers if they will continue to work while it is raining. the chief construction manager said if it looks like it will jeopardize what they have done and it will cause it to collapse again they will keep working through the rain but if it looks to be stable they will take a break. you can use live doppler hd to track the rain any time with the weather app which is tree on apple app and google play and we have more information at abc7news.com/app. the wet weather is putting a damper on a popular street festival in oakland. organizers are canceling tonight's monthly art and music event on telegraph avenue and do not want vendors to get their goods soaked. a plan profited against police was not factor in the
decision to cancel it. >> justice for eric garner. two people arrested for vandal e during the protest in oakland. it was in response to the new york grand jury decision not to charge a white police officer in the death of an unarmed black man. several hundred rallied and matched through the downtown area. san francisco demonstrators blocked market street at powell holding a "die in," lying on the ground and chanting "hands up, don't shoot." the group marched todown square. several buses were re-routed.

elevations. the forecast is showers and thunder, moderate rain, holly heavy rain under the thunderstorms and that is where you can see a quick flash flood or two. the weekend we have a dry window from saturday evening through sunday morning with light rain on monday and a big who willer of a storm possible thursday into friday. here is the high pressure clock-wise flow, low pressure, counter-clockwise flow, bringing us the tropical moisture so when the cold front bumps into us us it lifts it a degree and squeezes out the moisture and heavy rain and hail are possible. we have a cold front and a trust of low-to-upper. the trough of bring the second wave and the cold front will be stronger and we will have our best chance of urban flooding and rock and mudslides and wind damage. as the cold air comes down with the rain it hits the brown and spreads out and it could accelerate the winds. at 12:00 you can see the showers and storms and orange and
redlining up and first wave moves across 5:00 or 6:00 and we get a couple of hours break and later at the tree lighting ceremonies in san ramon, martinez, burlingame, and, of course, in livermore, the back half is try and at 36 comes the trough and through 8:00 in the morning it will bring another group of showers and thunderstorms and the coverage is less wide-video and the intensity is lower. through saturday afternoon, overnight, most of sunday, looking dry, 1:00 o'clock, there could be a stray shower and it tries to paint one right over and it would benefit the raiders and 49ers game. a little bit of rain will be dry. here we go on sunday the rain will move into the north bay and spread across the neighborhood, three-quarters of an inch in most neighbors and .25" in santa close valley and 1.5-3" elsewhere. well start in san ramon and
