broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> a million dollar home in the east bay that investigators say hid a horrible secret. >> a couple who lived here is now accused of running a prostitution human trafficking ring for nearly 15 years. good evening and thank you for joining us. i'm ama daetz. >> i'm dan ashley. we begin with new details. police crack open what they call a major high dollar prostitution ring. >> the leaders investigators claim kidnapped and trafficked women for more than a decade operating out of san ramon and danville. >> abc7 news reporter alan wang is live in front of the home in danville. alan? >> dan and ama, neighbors say the couple moved into this $1.6 million home in june. the driveway was lined with luxury vehicles and then the fbi descended upon the home and towed most of them away.
no one around here knew exactly why until now. >> we know so many people in the community that it is shocking here. >> human trafficking and forced prostitution can happen anywhere, even in the most affluent communities. investigators say the leaders, 50-year-old james joseph and his common law wife, 34-year-old wife operated out of san ramon and later this home in danville. police say for nearly 15 years they arranged for women to be flown to rich clients around the country. >> they were being lured in and forced into prostitution. >> the women between 18 and 25 years of age were enticed with international make up artists and modeling contracts. >> there were a lot of ways people were kept in this business and namely by fear and ultimate intimidation that if they didn't cooperate they could be hurt or killed. >> police along with the fin arrested the couple -- along
with the fbi arrested the couple at their homes. they also arrested an thon fee reynold -- anthony reynolds. >> being involved in it doesn't seem real. >> at least six women were being held in contra costa county. and then one of them escaped and lead police to the home in danville. in the east bay, alan wang, abc7 news. a san francisco tourist was released from the hospital late tonight, and the two men accused of attacking him are under arrest. it started with a robbery and shooting on lombard street and ended in oakland after a police chase through three cities. lilian kim is live at san francisco general hospital with the latest. lilian? >> ama, the victim left through the back entrance so we were not able to talk to him, but he is able to make a full recovery. members left san francisco general hospital where one of the fellow airmen was being treated for a gunshot wound in the arm. the shooting happened near the crook cede section of lombard
street as the group was walking to their tour bus. sfpd says two men drove up and took the camera. he was shot when he ran after them. >> we were told areas we could not go in during the nighttime. it was quite dangerous. >> it was really scary. >> what happened next was the start of a nearly four-hour ordeal. the robbers took off in their car and triggering a high speed chase across the bay. police arrested one of the men after the car crashed on 60th street in oakland. the second suspect was found by a search dog after a three-hour manhunt. >> he was being chased by police and he drove his car up 60th. he then drove it into the pole and then jumped out. there were apparently two guys and this guy jumped the fence. >> as for the vehicle tim, he will be okay. he has since been released from the hospital and returning to vacaville. he and his air force friends were training at travis ace force base. lilian kim, abc7 news. >> a san francisco judge heard evidence in the case of an
undocumented immigrant accused of killing a san francisco woman along the city's waterfront. abc7 news was in court today when a key witness testified she saw francisco lopez sanchez run from the crime scene when kate steinly was shot. the most important witness may have been the person who investigators say heard the gunshot and saw the gun being tossed into the bay. >> a former banking analyst in san francisco faces charges tonight of insider trading. he worked for jp morgan chase at the time. the uc berkeley graduate is accused of leaking inside information on tech deals to friends. the department of justice says the group netted nearly $700,000 from illegal trades. police in san leandro need your help finding a well-dressed bank robber who targeted a bank of the west branch last wednesday. he demanded money from the teller at the washington avenue location right after it opened for business. the teller complied.
police searched the area, but were not able to find this bandit. oakland school district is considering a plan to use a available piece of city land for affordable teacher housing. the plot is spawler than an acre at 12th street and second avenue near lake lake merritt. they wanted to sell it for lux rowhousing of the they protested the decision. the deal eventually fell through because it violated state law by not offering enough affordable housing. the school district board will consider the new plan in support of teachers and decide if they should pitch it to the city. >> we hear this all the time and not just about our teachers, but people want fiertds and police officers living in the community where they work. >> the school district has until september 12th to notify the city of its interest. >> new de tills tonight. the city of sunnyvale discussed a plan to house homeless people displaced by a shelter closure. they didn't make any decisions, but they are considering a suggestion to use the air force station.
they considered a site near the victory village neighborhood, but it was met with strong opposition. the county and the city will now discuss this plan. >> critics spoke out against a controversial deal to pave the way for an indian homeland and commercial development in the north bay. a public meeting in sonoma county drew aing pad house. many angry residents say the county cut a deal with almost no public input and hundreds of people turned out to let government leaders know what they think the agreement is full of loopholes. >> this is a small town. it is trying to stand up and fight back against big development and big money and big interest. >> under the county agreement, the band of indians could build homes and a winery and a resort on their property, but they could not have a casino for 22 years. the county supervisors say it is a good deal that will bring in millions and force the tribe to follow environmental rules. the plan requires congress to pass a bill to get the land into a federal trust. a grassfire that broke out near a busy north bay mall and
threatened homes this evening is suspicious. that's according to authorities. abc7 news was in san rafael as fire crews were able to contain it to one and a half acres. it broke out after 6:00 near the north gate mall. fire investigators say they are looking for a group of teenagers last seen running away from the area. 16 families are without water in san rafael. they say there are actually three breaks in the marin wood area. this is cell phone video showing the water pouring down the street. look at this. people used buckets to grab water for the sland scaping. why not, right? marin municipal is working to fix the break. >> a new report out tonight says bay area drivers are the most stressed in the nation. it is all because of worsening traffic congestion. according to texas a&m university bay area drivers waste two workweeks every year stuck in traffic. that's double the national

down, and i don't know what it is. someone is running around the street or something. >> not your usual traffic jam on interstate 880 as police tried to catch a bear chested man around mine:40 in the morning. a passing driver took this cell phone video. >> where the shirtless man came from is a mystery. it all started somewhere near the overpass where i am standing. police say the man grabbed construction poll will you pleases and started placing them on interstate 880 stalling traffic. and as you can see behind me there is recent construction in this area and so cones for him to grab. >> the man assaulted two officers who tried to detain him as he darted all over the roadway. >> the question everyone asks -- >> was he on drugs? >> police suspect so. possibly pcp. >> you can see him running with barbs running down his
back. >> and a half dozen san jose officers can be seen chasing the man along with three or so chp officers who came to help. >> the police did everything right. i don't think they did anything wrong. crazy. >> a second taser subdued the unidentified man. he was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. from there officers booked him into the santa clara county jail for two counts of battery on a peace officer under the influence and resisting arrest. in san jose, abc7 news. a battle over police and fire benefits in san jose is officer. today the worker unions approved a new agreement that replaces much of -- much of measure b. it drastically cut police and firefighter benefits leading to a critical loss of employees in both departments. it increases pay and restores some retirement benefits. they believe it will make salaries more competitive and saving $2 billion over the next 30 years. new video shows one of
three americans who took down a gunman on a european train arriving back home to sacramento. he flew back from france. he was not on the flight. spencer stone was in germany being treated for his injuries. when they all returned home the city of sacramento plans to throw a parade in their honor. >> they were on a train and they didn't passively wait and see what would happen. they saw danger to not only themselves and then to others and they stepped up and saved lives. >> details haven't been revealed yet, but kevin johnson said it will be something special. >> and well deserved. a large part of the south bay will undergo fogging for west file virus. this pap shows the areas of san jose and santa clara that will be treated starting tomorrow at 11:00 p.m. and is scheduled to end at 2:00 a.m. on friday. the spraying is being done after adult mosquitoes tested
positive for the virus. residents are being asked to stay inside and close their windows during this treatment process. health officials in leak county are reporting one and possibly two human cases of west nile virus tonight. west nile is a disease of the nervous system and can have permanent serious side effects. both patients are said to be making good recoveries. >> that's good. well it is time to check on our weather. >> here we are midweek and sandhya patel is here with the forecast. >> enjoy the gorgeous weather. we are in for some changes. later this week it will cool down and may even see a few drops. live doppler 7hd is showing where the fog is. it is a lot like yesterday. it is pushing into parts of the north bay. so it is a very shallow layer. this afternoon the fog layer hung around in a few spots which is why places like san francisco and half moon bay was a little cooler. most other areas were warmer than yesterday. 93 livermore and neent -- 93 in fairfield. santa rosa got up to 85
degrees. as we head toward tomorrow the temperatures will cop up a few more degrees. right now the biggest thing i am noticing compared to previous nights is it is getting a bit cooler. 50s showing up in the north bay and peninsula and along the coast. great sleeping weather tonight. we have fog from the exploratorium camera. it will be around at the coast and the bay. the warming trend through thursday. and it is going to be a cooler weekend with the possibility of drizzle or a few sprinkles on saturday morning we will keep in between two systems. high pressure will continue to pull up the subtropical high moisture in southern california where they will see more rain tomorrow and there are flash flood washes for the san diego county mountains and deserts. expecting us to be in the comfort zone. but this cool air mass with the upper level low will bring major changes. this weekend we will see cooler weather and showers for northwestern united states including the northwestern portion of california with all
of the wildfires they can use some rain there and better air quality. as we head toward early saturday morning the low tracks in land and the chances for any drops around here pretty much diminishes. we turn your attention to the tropical pacific. there are three systems that are very active here. both are moving away from the hawaiian island chain. it is the latest storm we are keeping a close eye on. it is expected to intensity to a category 2 hurricane by friday night. as it continues as a category 1, it could pose a threat to hawaii this upcoming weekend. if you have travel plans you will want to keep an eye on that. certainly el nino is developing and they are sustaining the tropical systems. it is something to keep in mind. the morning starts out cool. your kids are heading off to school. you will want to bundle them um. low 50s to the upper 50s.
