live where you live, this is "abc 7 news." ♪ developing now at 11:00, two major grass fires are keeping firefighters around the bay area busy. one of the fires forced horses to run for safety. >> and that other fire is swelling in size. tonight it is forcing homeowners to leave everything behind. good evening, i'm eric thomas in for dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. tonight firefighters are still at the scene of both fires. the winter fire is in yolo county near winters and the peterson fire next to travis air force base. >> let's begin with "abc 7 news" reporter cornell bernard live near travis air force base with more on the developing story. cornell. >> reporter: gusty winds a huge problem today, carries this fire from a neighborhood where it began all the way to travis air force base where it was finally stopped tonight. this abandoned golf complex, a
total loss. burned in the fire fight. sky 7 over a raging wildland fire, intense flames charging toward travis air force base. neighbors on bella vista avenue shot cellphone video of cyprus trees smoking after they ignited around 4:00 p.m. homeowner carlos lopez tried to put the fire out with his garden hose. >> the trees were on fire and they went pretty quick. like i said, tried to control it with water but it was too high. >> reporter: patrick layer lives next door, his car melt by the heat, the side of his house damaged by the flames. >> we rolled up and the house was on fire. i'm like, what the -- that's crazy. thank god it didn't burn it down. >> the kind carried it over the backyard fence of that house, and then it was off on its way to travis air force base. >> reporter: gusty winds drove the fire "fast and furious" across 40 acres, narrowly missed grazing cattle but burned an
abandoned building at a city sports complex. flame spread on to the base where air force firefighters took over assisted by city crews. >> we actually cut through the fence on the air force base. i don't think anybody got shot. >> reporter: the fire threatened this horse stable where military personnel board their animals. all of the horses got out safely. two hours later, the fire was out. a cause still unknown. in solano county, cornell bernard, "abc 7 news." cornell touched on it a little bit, but who are the weather conditions impacting the fire? >> meteorologist sandhya patel joins us live with that answer. >> yeah, eric and ama, let's look at the current conditions near the fire line. cooler, 74 degrees, relative humidity at 37%. the biggest factor in this has been the wind out of the southwest to 18, gusting to 28, and with gusty winds like this hot spots could still flare up. here is a look at the wind forecast. they will remain lighter heading into the overnight hours, picking back up again tomorrow afternoon out of the west,
southwest. here is a look at time lapse from solano county fire there from the east bay hills camera. you can see the smoke being blown side ways because of the gust ear winds we had. tomorrow the fire danger remains elevated. 6:00 in the afternoon you see blue and yellows, moderate to high fire danger. as we move in closer, particular areas east of 580 we will be concerned about. i will be back with a look at the temperatures rising for tomorrow. ama. thank you. sky 7 shows a fire north of vacaville that swelled in size to more than 1600 acre. the winter fire is burning in yolo county. south of winters along highway 128 and pleasant valley road. it started this afternoon. the fire is now 18% contained thanks to air drops throughout the day. you're seeing video of one there. the golder bear estates neighborhoods are under a mandatory evacuation order. highway 128 heading into napa is closed until noon tomorrow.
one firefighters lost consciousness today and had to go to the hospital in a helicopter. it was a busy day for firefighters around the bay area. there were also small brush fires today in tiberon, antioch, livermore and sunnyvale. >> pg&e sent us a picture of a helicopter it will be using tomorrow in sonoma county to look for dead or dying trees near power lines. removing those trees lowers the risk of fires around the lines. we've been sending out push alerts about the grass fires burning across the bay area all day long including this one about the fire near travis air force bay. download the "abc 7 news" app and stay on top of breaking news where you live. >> breaking news out of seattle. a delta airline passenger under arrest after assaulting a flight attendant. it happened in the first class cabin of delta flight 129. several passengers helped hold the man down until the plain landed safely in seattle. two people including the flight attendant were injured. the fbi is now investigating. >> and developing news, it's
been a night of violence in germany where at least 76 police officers have been hurt after nearly 8,000 protesters rioted ahead of the g20 summit. >> abc news reporter maggie rulli has the latest on the riots ahead of a meeting between president trump and russian president vladimir putin. >> thousands of protesters at the g20 summit on thursday clashing with police who are battling back with water cannons an pepper spray as world leaders arrive for this year's summit. president trump and russian president vladimir putin have both landed and are ready to sit down face-to-face on friday. >> my guess is president putin will walk in the door with a specific agenda in mind and president trump needs to be prepared to handle it. >> with tensions between two of the world's biggest superpowers escalating, president trump is expected to push putin on russia's involvement in ukraine and syria. one topic off the table, russia's meddling in last year's
u.s. presidential election. >> i think it well could have been russia but other countries. >> reporter: with president trump skirting the issue the day before the big meeting. >> my big question is do we see president trump who wants to be loved by vladimir putin or president trump who wants to be seen as a tough neglector. >> reporter: the white house is calling this face-to-face a normal bilateral meeting but the russians have their own agenda. they say it is a full-fledged seated meeting, one where putin is likely to press president trump to ease u.s. sanctions on his country and reopen russian compounds in the u.s. maggie rulli, abc news washington. morgan hill police say a man suspect of trying to drown his girlfriend is now under arrest. police say the assault happened on pine way early last saturday morning, where gauge palafox shown here, is accused of asaumting and trying to drown his girlfriend in a pool. police say he was wanted on a $100,000 felony warrant in an unrelated case. happening now, richmond police are looking for a 12-year-old girl who went
missing wednesday evening. police say jessica padaie was seen around 5:45 p.m. near richmond library. she was being pick up by her mother but the two got in an argument and she ran back into the billing. she is 5'5", with belong black hair and brown eyes. guilty on all charges, a verdict a san francisco jury handed down to a man who killed two people at a jewelry market in 2015. >> barry white junior could face life without possibility of parole. lisa amin ga leashan is live with details. >> reporter: it took the jury half a day to decide the fate of barry white. late today a jury found barry white guilty of murdering khin min and lina lim. both worked at a store inside of san francisco's jewelry mart in 2013. >> decided that the intent was
there so that premeditation was there. >> reporter: surveillance video show ed white trying unsuccessfully to shoot and kill the store's owner. white claimed he had been overcharged for a gold chain. he killed both women by slitting their throats. he also shot one of them. >> everybody is crying, very emotional. we are still kind of in a blur right now. >> reporter: it has been a long four years since the ram page which ended after white shot at police and ran out of ammo before surrendering. he watched the entire bloody scene from his store inside of the jewelry mart. he says no one's been able to successfully rent the space across the hall since. he's relieved by today's conviction. >> i want to grab my cigar and smoke a cigar and say, you know what? there is justice. >> reporter: white's attorney isn't so sure. he bit a case for insanity which white refuted at the last minute. >> when somebody wants to defend themselves at closing argument,
that says a lot about their mentality and where they are. >> reporter: a sentencing date has not been set. in san francisco, lisa amin gulliesan, "abc 7 news." new at 11:00, verona park, where a suspect admitted to running down boy with a jeep. the boy and another 14 year old are accused of stealing a marijuana pipe from richardson's store on commerce boulevard. richardson told police there had been several thefts at the store he wanted to catch them. police arrested him for assault with a deadly weapon and arrested the boys for shoplifting. >> is ground zero for car burglars. coming up, the community target by thieves and what is being done to stop the crime. >> a south bay soccer player left in a coma after a near drowning at lake tahoe. >> parts of a popular south bay park are now closed.

tonight they hear about car break-ins here and they're fairly frequent in san ramon, but 14 in one night? that's extraordinary. the phone started ringing off the hook at the san ramon police department at dawn with police reporting their car had been broken into overnight. in all the cases, thieves shattered the side windows on the driver or passenger's side and scoured seats and the glove box for valuables. in one instance, they found the key fob to another car and clicked it open. >> i know there was a vehicle stolen also and that was subsequently recovered i believe in the oakland area. >> reporter: police say it is likely the criminals exited interstate 680 and zigzagged through neighborhoods west of the freeway, smashing car windows along these residential streets and in driveways. >> it is random. they may hit us today, they may hit pleasanton tomorrow. >> reporter: neighbors say there are frequently reports of car
burglaries around here, but did not want to go on camera. many are sharing surveillance video with the police department in the hopes of identifying the suspects. in san ramon, i'm leslie brinkley, "abc 7 news." san jose earthquakes players who nearly drowned in lake tahoe on the fourth of july awoke from a coma today. earthquake officials say he is responsive and able to speak. he is scheduled to under go cognitive and physical tests before being released from the intensive care unit. he was pulled from the water by teammates and paddle boarders. he didn't have a pulse but was revived by a bystander on the beach. >> park rangers closed parts of a south bay park after a mountain lion was parted near the trails. the closures will last for several days. the mountain lion was filmed by hikers yesterday. it has been seen several times recently near the south rim trail and one way road. park officials closed both as a
precaution. >> repetitive sightings in a confined space raises concerns. >> i'm not surprised. parks have lots of signage about the mountain lions. >> reporter: park rangers tell "abc 7 news" the mountain lion is probably looking for food. the trail will reopen once they're sure it has left the area. all right. it has been nice weather to get out and hit the trails. >> got one hot day coming though. here is sandhya with the forecast. >> yeah, it mass been good-looking weather but it is about to get uncomfortable, at least in inland areas. look at the hour-by-hour forecast for antioch tomorrow morning. you will start out at 68 degrees. rapidly the temperatures will come up to the triple digit mark, at least by the afternoon in some of our hottest inland valley also. yes, it is going to be a scorcher tomorrow. as we take a live look from our east bay hills camera, we have terrific visibility. you can see clearly across the bay and we're going to continue this trend for a few more hours before things start to change towards the morning commute. i'll explain here in a moment.
live doppler 7 indicating clear skies right now as you take a look at those temperatures. 50s cost side all the way to 70s and 80s inlan. this is typical around this time of year, seeing that warm weather in the summertime inland. from our emeryville camera, a lovely view. triple digit heat inland tomorrow. heat eases over the weekend and turning cooler next week for those of you who don't like this hot weather. all right. here is the deal. patchy fog at 5:00 a.m. for the morning commute will be confined to the coastline at around 7:00 to 8:00 around you will still see it. it will be pretty low down on the deck and dense, so you will want watch out especially if your commute takes you aross the area. for the afternoon, nothing but sunshine. the fog will rapidly burn off and the temperatures will come up. warmer today and warmer tomorrow and down right hot inland. tomorrow morning starting out mild in the inland valley, low to mid 60s and the coast and the bay, temperatures in the 50s with patches of fogs around.
for the afternoon, look at the numbers. hot around gilroy, morgan hill, mid to upper 90s san jose. 89 on the peninsula. temperatures ranging from the low 70s around millbrae to 66 in pacifica. good day to hit the beach if you don't like it hot. 71 in downtown san francisco. daly city a nice mild day. you will see the triple digits, napa, santa rosa, in the 90s heading into the east bay. 78 in oakland. 80 in hayward. inland areas, yeah, it is going to be one of those hot summer days. 100 in concord and livermore. at least you have the ac there. you want to try to stay cool, have plenty of water. 98 walnut creek, 101 in antioch. going to the giants game against the marlins at at&t park tomorrow night, temperature 61 at 7:15 dropping to 56. so pretty comfortable weather, but it will be breezy out there. you might want to pack a light jacket with you and enjoy the game. a look at the accuweather seven
